Keiki is the kirin of the kingdom of Kei, that is, he is the magical all-merciful beast who grants to the emperor of Kei his throne as well as magical powers.

The kirin of a kingdom is also called a saiho or a taiho and his servitude to the emperor is exclusive, therefore it guarantees the emperor's legitimacy.
