Motoko is a strong swordswoman who comes from a very well-borught up family and often dresses souly in robes like that of a Shinto priestess. She is hardly seen without having her sword hidden or in plain sight and wastes absolutely no time in using it when she feels it nessaccarry or when someone annoys her. Motoko provides somewhat anti-male overtones in her actions and behavior towards Keitaro. This, however, is only because she is afraid of being in love with him and becoming a "weakling" like her sister Tsuruko who married and lost the rights to the family dojo, thus Motoko must someday take it as an "enheiritance" of sorts. A number of running gags centered around her is whenever she catches Keitaro doing something she feels is perverted, she'll send him sailing. Another is her seemingly irrational fear of turtles, espcecially Tama. One explanation is a supposed dream in where a turtle demon almost killed her sister. Both the manga and anime suggest Motoko may be bisexual.
In the Manga:
Motoko goes through a lot more trials and tribulations than in the anime and does much more soul-searching. Also, late in the series of the manga, she attempts (and fails 3 times) to enter Tokyo U like Keitaro. It also seems she's taken a habit of writing "trashy" romance novels, mostly with herself and Keitaro becoming the prime characters, much to her humiliation and horror. Her sister appears not once, but twice, and on both occassions has been enraged to the point of wanting to kill her younger sister.
In the Anime:
She gets 3 "followers", only one of whom has a name, and it's implied one of them has a crush on her. Motoko becomes the butt of much out-number votes and humiliation situations, but the actress performing her seems to give off more of a comical reaction. While in the manga she confesses to loving Keitaro, not once but twice, she never does so in the anime, even after it becomes obvious.
Her family:
Tsukuro Aoyama: She is Motoko's older sister and seems to look like an older, refined version of Motoko herself. Tsukuro also seems to be able to make anyone blush with a simple compliment. This lovely and married woman can be sweet and a bit oblivious to when something is being pulled on her, but once her eyes are opened to the truth, she seems to think nothing short of killing said person, more often than not, her sister Motoko. She always has a bird named Shippu on her shoulder, but in the manga gives him to Motoko.

Motoko is a swordgirl who comes from a very ancient family and is an expert kendo student, she can use her Ki energy (the energy of her very being) to create gails of wind that can send her victims flying millions of miles into the air (mostly Keitaro). When her sister married she lost the right to become successor to the family, so Motoko was lain with the repsonsibility and saw falling in love as a sign of weakness and swore that would never happen to her...until she met Keitaro and felt heartpangs that meant she was falling in love with him. Like Naru and Shinobou, Motoko seems to become more and more attracted and attatched to Keitaro whenever she is the focus of an episode, yet seems to be disopointed when she can see he clearly only wants to belong to Naru.
Motoko doesnot operate on a sexual level, so whenever Kitsune over does her hugging for Naru, Motoko becomes turned on. It's really not her fault, since she cannot do anything about what she is seeing and was molested by Kanako when the goth girl impersonated Naru in an effort to have Naru driven away. One thing that makes her unique is her phobia of turtles due, possibly to a dream or memory of a "turtle demon" almost killing her sister. Whether or not this really happened is not confirmed.
In The Manga:
Like in the anime, Su seems to be very attatched to Motoko and Keitaro gains a newfound respect for his tormentor for being able to survive Su. Also, Motoko got her SECOND kiss....from SU! (su is a very affectionate girl and, like Mutsumi, will apparently kiss people she really likes).
Her sister shows up again when she thinks Motoko has passed the entrance exam for Tokyo U, not knowing she hadn't. Motoko cut her hair to be very short in a phase of self-disgust because of her lie but became her normal self soon after. Unlike in the anime, Motoko always hid the way she felt for Keitaro, but in the manga when she was fighting her sister she cried out that she loved Keitaro, catching Keitaro by surprise.
During Su's quest to make Keitaro her "Kingtaro", Kistune hired Motoko as a bounty to hunt him down, which she did. Possibly because she still had feelings for him, during her fight with him she tried to convince Keitaro to go back to Hinata with her and give Su the slip.
When she starts to focus on her career of being a novelist Motoko constantly finds she is putting herself and Keitaro in steamy situiations, much to her horror and embarassment. Like Shinobou, when four years go by it seems Motoko still wants Keitaro for herself; one of her manscripts involves her killing Naru and complying with Keitaro's plea to "take me" on a very special day.
