there's already a perfectly good serious picture of him down below, so I chose something more silly(A rare shot of Zel slightly sded and pigging out with the rest of them). Poor Zel, he tries to be series and stoic, he really does. But the fruitbats he hangs out with just won't let him ^^;.
Zel is a chimera(a combined creatures), he started off as a normal human but because of certain events that I'm not going to go into, he is now also 1/3 golem & 1/3 mazoku(demon). He's a loner with serious and brooding tendencies, this makes him the straight man in alot of random slayers gags, they even devoted an entire episode of NEXT solely to picking on him(he's the only anime character I know of that was ever used as an impromptu anchor O.o). Ph34r the Slayers NEXT filler episodes(filler episodes = what they stick between one major plot and another, there's usually a set of four or five in each Slayers series).
Oh yes, he's a very competent mage(shamanism, which usually involves the elements or raw spiritual energy) and a good swordsman.
Dub Seiyuu: Crispen Freeman(for the second half of Slayers tv and on), he's very good, I want to hear him sing something :)
