When Kyousuke first meets Ayukawa Madoka, she acts the "delinquent," but in reality, she's a very kind and considerate, if short-tempered girl. On top of that, she's beautiful, and as the daughter of two renowned Japanese violinists, has plenty of musical talent herself--even winning first place in a televised singing competition.
Madoka looks out for Hikaru as her own little sister, so despite her inner feelings for Kyousuke, she steps aside and gives in to Hikaru's adoration of "sempai."
