Iwakura Lain Is at first a shy 14 year old girl. But when she gets an e-mail from a classmate that commited suicide to join the Wired, Lain asks for a new NAVI form her "dad" and researches. She eventually becomes more experienced than her dad. Eventually, Lain figures out she is a powerful program created to destroy the barrior between the Wired and the Real World.

Lain... She has become obsessed with the 'wired' and her modifying her new navi with a bashuke circuit... she watches people in the real world through the 'wired'... she believes she can combine the 'wired' and reality itself, that she will no longer need physical contact with people... she at first is a normal 8th grader but she begins to change into someone mysterious... she is actually pretty cool but insecure... she is like some kind of bio-android and her family isn't even hers...
