Master Mage Clef is a very old(745 years old to be exact) shrimp, whom the Magic Knights meet first.After a good introduction the Magic Knights get armor and magic, but before they can use their magic the Magic Knight have to learn how to use their magic so no one, the Magic Kninghts, is killed because, posession isn't everything. Hikaru is up first to learn how to use her Fire Magic. Master Mage Clef was unable to teach Umi and Fuu bcause,one of Zagato henchwomen,Alcione, had come to "visit"her old teacher,so M.M.Clef sent the Magic Knights to Presea in the Forest of Silence. Alcione left M.M.Clef with little fight to follow the Magic Knights, Soon after Alcione had left Zagato appeared and turned M.M.Clef to stone. Later in the series M.M.Clef appears to teach magic to Umi and Fuu and as well to help the Magic Knight on their way.

clef is the man who meets Fuu, Umi and Hikaru as soon as they come into Cephiro. He is turned into stone by Alcione right after he teaches Hikaru how to use her magic.
