Tezuka is the captain of the tennis club and a third year student Seigaku. He is an incredibly talented player. Tezuka is serious about everything he does, and very strict - one of his trademark phrases is "Do not let your guard down". His special moves include his famous "zero-shiki drop shot", his "Tezuka Zone", and his "Hyaku Ren Jitoku no Kiwami".
As a first-year student Tezuka was seen as overconfident and arrogant by the upperclassmen at Seigaku due to his talents and seriousness, especially when they discovered that he was left-handed though he played with his right. A jealous teammate then injured Tezuka's left arm, leading to chronic problems. By his third year, it has mostly healed, but the doctor still warns Tezuka against long matches and using his drop shot. Tezuka considers his health secondary to the team's success, and reinjures his arm in a grueling tie-break match against Keigo Atobe of Hyotei Gakuen. Tezuka Kunimitsu is Seigaku Jr.'s Team Captain. A seemingly aloof and detatched person, Tezuka is a captain that only wants his team to go all the way to the top, the All-Japan championship.
During practice, Tezuka forces his boys to go all out in everything they do, making them run laps for any infraction of the rules.
Tezuka's skill in tennis is no joke either. His "drop shot" is a killer, which makes the ball simply stop movement after it lands in his opponent's court. Having mastered a technique(the "Tezuka Zone") in which he freely controls ball rotation to force his opponent to send the balls back to him, he is almost invincible. Or he would be.
During his freshman year, he drew the ire of a few upperclassmen, due to his cold style of play. An upperclassman struck him in his left arm with a tennis racket, and that injury has plagued Tezuka ever since.
Midway through the series, Tezuka tells Ryoma to "Become Seigaku's Pillar of Support". That marks a change in our hero, as he moves out of his father's playing style. Not long afterwards, Tezuka goes to Germany, to have his arm fully worked over.
Tezuka makes a few appearances every now and then in the series, but his captain duties have passed down to his best friend Syuuchirou Oishi.

Tezuka is the captain of Seigaku. He is left-handed and is famous for his drop shots. He's well respected by all the teammates and also by the players in other top tennis schools. Tezuka also made it into the regulars as a freshmen, now he's in his third year and is about to graduate. Tezuka sees great potential in Echizen and taught Echizen the meaning of playing tennis by having a match with Echizen despite his arm injury. Even though Tezuka never smiles, he appears to be extremely popular among the female fans.
