Miyata Ichirou is a boxing genius introduced to us as Ippo's first opponent. He is forever Ippo's goal, and in a strange way, friend. As the thought of Miyata pushes Ippo, Miyata is too driven by the thought of Ippo. Miyata's original reason for boxing was to prove that his father's style of boxing is successful.
