Calm, composed and unshakeably self-confident, Hiko Seijuurou is in fact the 13th in line to hold this name - the title of all Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu masters. He saved Kenshin from bandits when he was small and trained him in the mountains. Before Kenshin completed his training, however, he chose to get involved in the conflicts in the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate - something Hiko never quite forgave him for.
More than 10 years afterwards, at the time of the series, he has become a sculptor and lives hidden in the mountains near Kyoto. Kenshin comes to him after coming to Kyoto and realizes that he could not defeat Shishio without reverting to his Hitokiri side unless he finishes his training. Initially, Hiko Seijuurou refuses vehemently, until he learns more about Kenshin's doings in the last 10 years from Yahiko and Kaoru. Then, he teaches Kenshin the two greatest moves in Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu: Kuzu Ryu Sen (a move that attacks the 7 areas of the human body simultaneously) and the master technique, Ama Kakeru Ryu no Hirameki (Battou Jutsu on steroids: a two-phazed slash attack that is probably the fastest strike in all kendo styles). In addition, he helps Kaoru, Yahiko and Misao against the Juppon Gatana sent against them.
While many underestimate Kenshin because of his appearance, none would make that mistake with his teacher. In combat (when he chooses to fight, which is seldom enough), Hiko Seijuurou is almost unstoppable, combining Kenshin's insight, speed and technique with considerable strength, while lacking Kenshin's reservation to kill. His imposing looks, unbelievable fighting prowess and an ego to match make more than a lasting impression on all who see him (quite a few female characters, among them). He is fond of sake, and this is one of the few things that might take him away from his usual acerbic disposition.

Hiko is Kenshin's master, the 13th successor of the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu, the one who taught Kenshin the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu. He loves drinking saki (or wine, you might call it). When he first met Kenshin, Kenshin's name was still Shinta. But thinking that Shinta was too soft a name for a fighter, Seijuuro changed it to Kenshin. (Thank kami-sama he did. Shinta is, well... Sooooo damn weird. @_@) Oh yeah! He also has this habit of calling Kenshin BAKA DESHI, which means Idiot Pupil (i get why he calls kenshin that..),
