Nami had a past full of hate, and she had a very bad past. Belmayl was her mother, while Lily was her sister, but her mother died saving her from pirates who ruined her country island. This is why when Luffy asked Nami to join him, she disagreed along with the fact that pirates seemed to all be evil, like the Arlong- the invaders. The captain was named Dragon, and he was a person of the aqua world. He took control of the city and made a deal with Nami that once she got ten million and gave it to him, he would give the village back to her. She has struggled through much to make all this money, but in the end Dragon cheated her.(I watched the Japanese dragon so don't blame me if I get a name wrong or two, Luffy is supposed to be Roof.)

Luffy's navigator, once a pirate hater but after she met Luffy, her beliefs changes and she join to Luffy's crew, her dream is to map the Grand Line!

Nami hates pirates. Her childhood is filled with dark memories of pirate pillage and plunder. She (along with an older girl named Lilly) were raised by a Marine named Bellemare until the village where they were living (Cocoyashi Village) was ravaged by merman pirates. Bellemare was killed because she lacked money for a tribute. She was then forced to work for the pirates making maps when her natural talent for cartography was discovered. Therefore, Nami has made it a personal mission of herself to seek out filthy, greedy pirates and take their ill-gotten loot so that she could free her hometown and never be poor again. She carries the mark of the Arlong pirates on her right shoulder (normally covered by her shirt) as a reminder of her obligation.

I always have some sort of fasicnation with my fellow redheads and Nami is no exception. What seperates her from other pirates? She makes the costume work for one thing. Nami is also crafty and sly and uses her female appeal on pirates(mostly men, or any man) who stands in the way of what she wants and those who are dumb enough to fall for her charmed act. She is also an expert theif who mainly steals from pirates with little or no problem. She joined Luffy's crew for sometime and seemed to have a friendship with him until she heard about a famous pirate and decided to go it alone agai, taking his ship. One of the things she is truly in love with is treasure.

Nami is the 2nd one to join Luffy. She is crazy about money and can do everything for it. Many times you may think she is selling her friends off, but its mostly involving some plan of getting away with both her friends and the money.
Okay, there was this once, but she really had to do it.
Nami is saved by Luffy from Arlong, where she was forced to draw maps. She is an excellent navigator and there is no one yet seen that is better than her.
