Ayumu is better known as Osaka.She first appeared in episode 2 where she was new to school from Osaka.Back at home she is known for being spacy and she had hoped to get a new start in Tokyo.That didn't go too well.She is a bit of an airhead but she is an open thinker as well.Osaka is excellent at solving riddles.She is a caring and highly person.

Osaka is quite the quirkiest addition to the Azumanga Daioh group. At first look, you would see her as probably a normal high school student. Her mind, however, plays a different side.
Osaka came as a transfer student from, as you can guess, Osaka, Japan. By the end of the first episode, she was nicknamed "Osaka" by Tomo Takino.
Osaka tends to sleep in each class she has and shows a... "different" point of view than most people, often getting her odd looks from her friends.

Introduced in the end of DVD episode 1, Kasuga Ayumu sees the nickname "Osaka" forced upon her by Takino Tomo (because Ayumu comes from Osaka).
Aside from speaking in the Kansai dialect, she also is one of the five slowest people in anime history (and not only in the uptake).
Her imagination is rather peculiar.

Kasuga Ayumu transferred To Azumanga High at the start of the series. Generally thought to be a space cadet, she has the unnerving knack of finding connections between subjects that have no apparent connection, ("I was just thinking about Hemerhoids").
Her tendency to fall asleep in class is a constant source of irritation for her teachers, and she also taking a long time to puzzle things out (Usually coming up with the wrong answer anyway.) She is a sweet girl, just not operating on the same wavelength as everyone else.

Ayumu Kasuga is a student who transferred to the school from one in Osaka. Therefore, Tomo proposes one day that Ayumu be known as "Osaka" from then on, and the nickname sticks... much to Ayumu's dismay. Osaka is kind-natured and seems to want to be a good student, but she has a habit of being a "space cadet" and is prone to having surreal daydreams about Chiyo's pigtails. Contrary to several stereotypes, Osaka doesn't speak with a Kansai accent very much and isn't an outlandish person. She also has a strange knack for parallel thinking and solving riddles.
