The main protagonist of the series.
He is the unwilling centre of attention and focus of all the drama inside and outside his school, and often finds himself in embarrasing situations as a result.
He is relatively shy, indecisive, and is otherwise a simple and humble guy, but he has a big heart and a strong sense of justice and fairness, and can be incredibly brave.
He has had strong feelings for Haruna ever since he discovered she was the only classmate who gave him the benefit of the doubt, when he was unjustly linked to an incident involving the vandalism of a flowerbed in the school's grounds.
Problem was, he found it hard to find the guts to admit his feelings to her, face-to-face.
And whenever he had an opportunity, an accident always seemed to occur that prevented him from following through.
Now, ever since Lala's arrival (and his inadvertent engagement to her), he has had an even harder time trying to get as close to Haruna as he would like.
Although ironically, he has since had more of a chance to develop a friendship with Haruna - and has even spent several intimate moments with her - the true extent of his feelings have yet to be revealed.
The great tragedy of Rito's character is that he - and his actions - are often misunderstood and misinterpretated by the vast majority. Haruna is often times the only one who can truly see and appreciate Rito for who he is.
