Title: Girls
Summary:
A voice asks “What is it your so afraid of? Why don’t you take a chance sometime?"

At a club, a girl wearing an oxygen mask sells a boy a drug called Accela. It comes in a tiny yellow capsule and looks like a small bug/microchip. He washes it down with a beer and starts foaming at the mouth. Everything slows down as the boy starts panicking.

Lain checks her email, but doesn’t have any. Her sister comes in and mentions Lain’s imaginary friend(?) As she walks to school, she must pass a strange man standing by a light post. She runs away. At school, Alice and friends seem to be suspicious of Lain. Alice asks what Lain was doing last night. They were at Cyberia, a new techno club, last night and thought they saw a girl that looked like Lain. She acted exactly the opposite, though. The girls tease Lain, asking if she’d come with them next time.

A news brief describes Accela. Accela oscillates at a specific frequency in the body, which triggers a hormone that can completely alter the response time of the human brain making it seems as if you are accelerated. The brain itself is altered, multiplying brain calculation speed by a factor of twelve. It is destroyed by digestive juices after 24 hours.

In class, Lain checks her email. Alice invites her to Cyberia tonight. Lain says she’ll pass. As Lain walks down the empty school hallway, she sees strangely colorful human forms and the girl with the morphing face from the train scenario.

Episode: 3
Title: Psyche
Summary:
The police interrogate Lain, and she but she keeps quiet about what she saw. Alice runs up to her apologizing. Lain doesn’t say anything. A police officer drives her home. No one is there. Lain walks over the Navi and falls asleep by it. When she awakens, she again checks the house and finally her messages. Still no messages.

The next morning, Lain oversleeps. On her way to school, she sees a black car with what looks like a gun pointed at her inside. She runs. On the train, a male voice calls her name and tells her she is not alone.

As Lain scribbles in class, a male voiceover explains that Navis are quite popular now even with the younger kids. The voice explains the mechanics of the wired. Chisa appears outside the classroom and tells Lain that there was no reason for her to stay in the real world any longer, as it was only holding her back. The voice asks “who is Lain?
