The anime is good, but the Manga just provides a deeper story line.

What's bleach about? I've never read or watched it before. By the way, if you want to reccomand manga to people, this is the thread for it. http://www.animenfo.com/forums//viewtopic.php?t=1488

Bleach is about dead people.. and Shinigami and killing things.. And getting souls back and sending them to soul society.. I would be the description probably sums it up better than that.. Good though.

Sounds interesting, but seems very sadistic. Is it another one from America like Gunslinger Girl?

honestly, you could go broke buying manga. the publishing company, chuangyi, is raising the prices of the mangaa. Does anyone read or has ever read Detective conan? or "case closed" as i think it is known somewhere... anyway i think it's quite good (if you don't get bored with the same old storyline everytime).

I'm reading Gravitation at the moment and just wanted to say, anyone who loves the anime, will adore the manga! There is so much more to the story and where the anime is quite tame on the shounen-ai theme, the manga is definitely yaoi Wink

I need help guys. I'm deciding to check out GANTZ, but I want to know how it compares to the Anime. Which is better? Should I check out both? If so, which one first?

Also, about xxxholic, is it necessary to have read Tsubasa?

The gantz manga is way better than the anime. The manga continues while the anime ends.

No. They're related but you don't need both to get the whole story. Its two different sides of the story, actually. But you can do without one of them.

Has anyone here read the VizMedia translated version of Yami No Matsuei/Descendants of Darkness? I want to read it, but I've heard it's edited, can anyone tell me how badly edited it is?
Thanks Very Happy

At the moment im in the middle of 20th century boys. A great manga, especially if you liked monster.

Just finished Flames of recca and Hikaru no go ,which are both series where i have allrdy finished the anime. I now regret that i saw the anime first since the manga is much better ( same with GTO )

A bad thing is that I've come to a point where i dont know what to read next, since i dont read shojo and try to stay away from to many not finished series( have 40 series where i wait for new chapters and books Crying or Very sad )

I liked it.. I've read quite a bit of it.. I'd say it's worth checking out.. It moves much faster.. as manga usually does..

It's not over yet. And you don't have to ask the same questions twice..

Just read Voyeur and 3 vol of Voyeurs, Inc.
A hilarious story about the art of peeking, with a good amount of nudity.

Kurozuka
Ive only read the 2 first volumes of it but i've allrdy fallen for the art and story. This is a manga i would recommend if you liked battle angel alita, blade of the immortel and berserk.

Isnt Tenjou Tenge all edited to hell by CMX? That really pissed me off.. I refuse to buy it.. I think its this one anyway.. there was a thread on this somewhere..

CMX removed excess blood and toned down the ecchi images.. I won't buy it.. I suggest you don't either.. Look for a fan scan.. This is the only time you will hear me telling you to do something like that, but companies that alter manga or anime by censoring it from its original version can go bankrupt for all I care and rot in the unemployment line.

Yes, this will also the only time of me telling you to avoid legally published English manga - the CMX version of Tenhjo Tenge is so badly butchered that no human being should ever read it. Even though I was never very impressed with the storyline of the manga, at least there was plenty of fan service in it. CMX decided to cut out the only interesting part in the whole series. Also buying Tenhjo Tenge by CMX will give the implication that manga-fans accept such cencorship, which in turn might lead to other manga-publishers doing the same. If you are interested in the series, just go and buy the Japanese originals or read the scanlations.

But do not ever buy Tenhjo Tenge by CMX.

Ok so here's a tough one for you. I've decided to call it:

My Mother Wants To Learn English

When she was young comic novels helped her greatly in learning Italian, and now she would like to improve her (lousy) English skills in the same way. And realising this is a great occasion for winning her over to the darrrrrk side I'm thinkning of buying her some English translated manga.

Now question is, what could be appropriate for a 67-year-old woman? What series would you recommend? It shouldn't be gorey and not too violent/action oriented. And definitely not echi, hentai or yaoi. ^_^ Fantasy COULD work, if it fulfills the criteria above. Maybe romantic would be the best choice, but since her language skills are very limited it's important that the manga is not too complex and that the visual aspect is pronounced. And at the same time, it mustn't be too visually confusing (pictures blending into each other a lot and so on).

Help.

Girl Got Game might be good for all those criteria. It's a romantic story, with easy to follow panels and a lot of it is made up of garnering what is going on by the artwork, as well as the text. It's a very easy story to follow and not one of those where you have to keep rereading text or staring hard at the artwork trying to figure out what is going on!
If I can think of some more, I'll post them.

Geez.. That's tough.. A 67 year old woman.. Hmm... I'd say it depends on her personality a lot too.. Honestly, I'm stuck.. Something cute probably.. ? Azumanga comes to mind.. But that's a little .. eh.. Sorry.. I got nothin..

However.. I did want to say that I read all of the Kenshin Manga..

Oh WOW.. It's awesome..

All 28 volumes.. I read in like.. uh.. 2 days.. Yeah.. Sick I know.. Why do you think I wasnt on this forum.. LoL

Anyway.. Great stuff.. I loved it.. And it figures that the Shishio arc was the best.. After that the manga totally splits off on a different path..

I loved it.. If you've seen the series.. Go read the manga.. It follows the anime up though the Shishio arc.. So pick it up after that if you want, but wow.. It's good..

Well she's a little tricky when it comes to her personality, because at times she can be very conservative, and still she's into New Age stuff and loves watching science programs. I think one of the best chices might have been 12 Kingdoms...had it but been a manga. Sad

Anyway I think I'm going to go for some kind of romance, but I'll try to find something more interesting that for example ENVY or Snow Drop.

I'd totally say that lighthearted romance would be the proper way to go.. I just can't think of any good ones.. Oh.. Hana Yori Dango.. That's a really good shoujo romancey type of manga.. The Manga ending however completely sucks imo.. Seriously it sucks.. Maybe pick a different one.. LoL

How many Volumes (which consist of about 8 chapters I think) of the One Piece manga are there in English ? I can only find six of them in the store where I live. I bought the first one called Romance Dawn.

@Kazi: I believe it's up to volume 41. Don't know how many of them are available at the stores. If you can't find it in your country best thing to do is order it online.

For websites I suggest Ebay and maybe Archonia but I don't know if the last one ships to Asia.

I checked both of them. They don't have more than 8 English volumes as well. I saw a tome 9, but it wasn't in English. Do the volumes you get have many chapters ? And are they in English ?

Tsubasa and XxXHolic are both of my favorite manga list.
They're are great books and it's funny and interesting. They both have interesting plot and the're connected. I just love books are connected...*sigh* *sparkled eyes* *everyone stared at me like im weird*

I read volume 7 of Tsubasa and volume 6 of XxX Holic and they are so interesting I kept reading ^ ^ *peace*
