No!!!!!!!! Trailer Posted -- horrible dub

I just went to http://www.rumblinghearts.com/ the official FUNimation site for Kimi Ga Nozumu Eien's release in the US and they had a trailer posted. I of course watched it ....and then cried.

The dub was one of the worst I've ever heard (and I've watched a lot of anime). Crap like this is a slap in the face to the director and artists who created the original. This just makes me sad.

It isn't that bad....you really can't tell what it's going to be like with only a 30 second clip (not even that long). Give it a chance and don't be so quick to jump to conclusions. Granted I know how people feel about dubbing in general, but it's not good to be prejudgemental.

I don't know. I've wanted to try and watch in english because of the drama and knew that they would need really good actors to pull it off (Ha! really good actors in anime). I can normally tell if I like a character's voice the first time they open their mouth. Here....not so good.

I guess we'll see.

Wow that 30 sec trailer gave away the story already. How stupid, lol.

Anyway, that gave me goose bumps, save yourself, don't watch dubs.

rosepetals is right, though. There isn't enough here to proclaim it "horrible". Hell, that 30 seconds spot is far from the worst dubbing I've heard... Wink

I agree that the dub from the trailer is terrible. I really do miss the days when you could get subbed only vhs's. But most anime viewers no longer buy dvds for the dubb. Heck i cant even remember the last anime i tried to watch in english lol.

Heh heh heh, what's new? Dubs are bad? Yeah, they usually are.

Which is why I never watch duds (err... dubs), if possible. But without having heard the dub (actually I don't want to), I can't compare it to the few others I've heard.

Bah, dubs are there just to be "marketable" to the mass media. Can't blame them, they're just making money. Hey, at least you'd have the option to hear it on Japanese audio unlike television.

IMO, the dubbing was mediocre really, not as good as Cowboy Bebop's but certainly isn't bad like hentai-dubbed bad more or less.

The only time I watch anything dubbed is when I'm watching with friends (yes, an anime fan with friends) and they don't like subs. I'd like to share one of my favorite animes with them without having to listen to that terrible voice.

Honestly, considering the level of fan I am of this show, the dub isn't anywhere near horrible. It's actually pretty fitting to the characters, even Mitsuki's and Shinji's voices are pretty spot-on.

For anyone who cares, FUNi updated the site and you can watch the first episode on it to get a better feel of the voices. And like I said, I'm not disappointed with the major characters.

I won't get into an argument here about how many anime I've seen to gauge this on, but suffice to say that I've seen plenty through the golden-years of bad dubbing and KimiNozo's dubbing is far, far, FAR from it.

I check the website again and you're right. The voices aren't AS bad as I first thought. I think it was just Haruka's rediculously cheesey voice on the trailer which bothered me the most....but it's still a bad dub. When will these silly companies realize the importance of casting....and acting.

I'd pay more money for a better voiced anime. No second thoughts.

As I said, this is FAR from a bad dub...if you consider this a bad dub, then you must equally consider pretty much every dub bad. And if you do that, then I'm sorry, you're beyond help.

Guess so. I've seen about 2 or 3 good dubs. The rest....well, you know. So unless a new company with some insight gets a clue, you're right, I'm beyond help.

You must be new to anime as a whole then, otherwise if you've been in anime for a while you'd know that the dubs produced today by any respectable company aren't 'bad' and if you think it's the worst you've ever heard, it only reinforces my assumption of your relative young insight to anime.

Dude shut up! You're the one who's beyond help.

That dub is bad... dubs are bad I know, but that is just badd... sure there are worse ones... but that is still bad...

Bad.

Yet, you're the only one really stating at how horrible the dub is...even against some of the most die-hard KimiNozo fans. So again, I reiterate that your relative lack of previous anime experience shows how little your opinion matters in the case of KimiNozo's dub.

Also, if you didn't want an opposing opinion, might I have suggested not posting on a public forum?

Thanks Chippy. I don't know why someone on this board would feel the need to attack my anime insight, but it doesn't bother me.
I am not new to anime. I have been watching anime for about eight years. I'm an art/film student and I've seen dozens of animes as well as hundreds of films, domestic and foreign.
In my opinion almost all anime titles have bad English dubs, even the ones from "respectable" companies. Simply stated, the actors, producers, and directors involved are not of the same caliber as those who work in US or foreign film and television.

Ohh I'm sorry sir, I don't really watch dubs, because like that "thing" above, they're just bad...

Bad.

Also, if you didn't want an opposing opinion to your opinion, might I have suggested not posting on a public forum?

As I said, you come in with the preconceived notion that dubs are bad, that's fine...but stop imparting your opinion using this notion to blanket-statement such things as this.

As for you Coop, your 8 years is nothing, try going on 20 and then we can talk about having such an insight. Also, just because you're a student of the arts doesn't mean you have some super-insight that I wouldn't.

The fact remains, unless you've watched every anime licensed and released and the dubs in them, you have a small leg to stand on. Outside of that, I don't have a problem with the opinions as long as they are impartial, which it's apparent yours is not.

But hey, if you wish to grasp onto the archaic and totally stupid elitist notion that all dubs are bad, go right ahead...I won't stop you. I will, however, stop you from trying to tell others that something is bad in your opinion based upon your bias.

If you don't like dubs, then don't watch it dubbed. Watch it subbed. Period. There is an option in the DVD that you can choose either Japanese voice or English voice ... you know ? Don't discourage others not to buy KGNE DVDs just because the dubs sucked. I have not listened to it, but then I don't watch any of my R1 or R4 (or even R3 for that matter) DVDs dubbed anyway. I was contemplating to buy the R4 boxset of Ulysses 31 (which is another good titles from the 80s), but then when I found out that there is no Japanese voice (only English) .. I decided not to buy it.

If I were to buy KGNE DVDs, I won't care about the dub. There is no reason why I should watch it in English voice given that the Japanese voice is better, you know ?

So the solution to your situation is ... buy the DVD. Then choose 'Japanese voice with English subtitles' option when you are about to start watching. Then sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. Problem solved. Plain and ... simple Wink

No I haven't watched every anime licensed, I doubt you have either.

Out of the dozens and dozens of anime I have watched, the vast majority (in my opinion of course) were poorly dubbed. Yes of course this is based on opinion, BUT not a bias.

I do not say this to bash anime - I love anime! and no, I am not an elitist.

I say this to everyone out there. In my opinion (and many knowledgeable anime fans), if you wish to enjoy anime as much as possible and come the closest to experiencing it as it was intended, watch it subbed.

If you have a difference of opinion that is fine. But now we’re off topic.

The trailer for Rumbling Hearts is up. http://www.rumblinghearts.com/ The dub sounded not so great. There are now episodes also posted on the site. The dub sounds not as bad but still bad.

Its coming out on DVD. Its a great anime. Buy it. Watch it in whatever language you want.

No hard feelings.

I have seen about 3/4 of the licensed titles as per ANN's encyclopedia..all of which I equally watched subbed.

If you want to watch it as it were intended, pack up your backs and move to Japan and learn Japanese, as far as I am aware there are no English subtitles for their TV-aired anime. I know there aren't on my KimiNozo R2 DVDs or any of my other R2J DVDs.

As I said, your opinion is a biased one, you come in with a preconceived notion about the dub and presto, the dub sucks...of course. Those 'knowledgeable' anime fans you speak of about dubbing are generally in that elitist category. As far as I am aware, true anime fans (speaking of English-speaking folks in the US here) generally don't care one way or another which language it is, as long as it is a good show and it is getting anime the attention it deserves.

If you want a bad dub, I can show you at least 30 titles that rank far, far, FAR worse than even 4Kid's One Piece work.

Guys, chill....

I think that you each have the right to have your respective opinions, and I can understand where Coop is coming from in terms of not having a preference towards dubbed series, that's his right, and it's Ch1ppy right as well. If anything, if you have a prefered language to watch your anime and you're still supporting the industry, great and all the blessings to you. But I'm a bit in the same boat with the idea that it's not good to proclaim all dubs as "horrible" and cover them with a blanket statement to not watch them "just because."

Now if it just boils down to this specific case, it's simply a matter of subjective opinion. There's really no necessity for (and no tolerance toward) flaming here.

No more of this guys...seriously. I can sense some buttons being pushed here and it's geting to the point where it's too much.

On topic: I watched three of the five episodes featured on Funimation's site, and truth be told, I find that I don't mind the dub at all. Perhaps it's because I haven't seen KGNE in a while, so I can't directly compare it to the sub, and perhaps because I don't mind watching dub/subs either way (unless it's Love Hina >_<), but that's just a personal preference.

I don't really have any opinion on the dub it self but it so irks me how they keep incorrectly pronounce Mitsuki's name. I didn't watch long enough but they probably botched most of the other names too.

Uhm, where did they mispronounce Mitsuki's name? As for the rest of the names, they are the exact same pronunciation as the original Japanese version.

They pronounce the "Mi" in Mitsuki like "mi" in mint. It's supposed to be like the "me" in meat. I'd bet anything they pronounce the "ru" in Haruka like the "ru" in ruler and the "shi" in Shinji is pronounced like the "shi" in shins.

This is common in dubs - the 'englishfied' pronounciation of the Japanese names. this is not a mistake in the name - just what all dubbing companies do to names.

Just checked the original language, it's pronounced 'mit-ski'. That's how it is pronounced in the English dub and in the game, so I still fail to see where it's mispronounced.

And with the rest, yes, they are pronounced how you state, which are mirror exacts to how they are in the Japanese version and the game.

If that's the case, trust me, the other names including Mitsuki's are pronounced incorrectly in the dub. You can see from the content of recent posts that the previous 3 or 4 posters have conceded as much. But regarding that, the Japanese have a good excuse for mispronouncing our names since some of the sounds we make in English don't exist in Japanese. On the other hand, every single sound that exists in Japanese does exist in English so pronouncing a Japanese name should not be at all difficult as long as you know how it's supposed to be pronounced.

Yeah, although the "u" in Mitsuki is barely audible if at all.

Err... that's weird... no thanks, I'll stick with Mitsuki.

Anyho, use the "edit" function next time, and please avoid double posting.

So I'm confused, are you telling me that they mispronounced the names in the original language? As I said, I played both audio tracks literally side-by-side and they have the same pronunciation as each other, so I am still failing to see where they are being mis-pronounced.

In that case I guess you just can't tell the difference but the original and the dub do indeed pronounce the names differently. As naoXolo said, the dub uses the "Englishfied" pronounciation. I only listened to the first two or three miniutes so unless they suddenly changed the way they pronounced the names, the dub is saying "Mitsuki" and the original is saying "Metski". That might not have made much sence without all the pronounciation sysmbols.

Just be thankful the English-speaking dudes didn't call her "Mit-Su-Ki". That would be just horrible.

It's quite common that when native Japanese speakers speak really quickly, "Mitsuki" sorta sounds like "Mitski".
