Gone or lurking around. This board's been awhile and had its better days, meaning members come and go.

BTW, I'm Asian too, Southeast-Asian to be exact. Smile

Filipino to be exact. Lots of people of my ethnicity come to this site, but only a few become regulars. IIRC, only me and Chippy are active as of now.

There are also people from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, etc.

I live outside a small town called Arvika in western Sweden. It is very lonely and quiet out here and since Sweden is not an overpopulated country there are actually parts of the country (about 5% I'd guess) which does not have access to broadband or internet connection faster than 300kb/s.

And guess where I live? In the forest where the fastest internet I can lay my hands on are wireless 3G connection which if I'm lucky brings my speed up to about 100kb/s.

This has made my life quite boring and real bothersome at some times since I can't download anime or play mmorpgs =(. Although, I'm often at lan-partys and at my friends house so I download anime there.

It really sucks but I'm moving in about a year, I just have to hold on^^

Other than that, Sweden is an ok country.

New Zealand, a country that takes itself and everything that happens in it far to seriously. I'm moving from here as soon as I'm finished university.

In the past, Portugal was a great Colonial Empire. Yeh, did you know that the portuguese were the first westerners to set foot in Japan and introduced the rifle in there, which played a crucial role in the late XVI century japanese feudal wars?

But today, Portugal is a nice little nation with nice beaches full of tourists, wonderful food and good wine and about 11 million inhabitants from which a good part are fanatics about... DragonBall Z! Yeh, say the word "Anime" and everyone replies "Dragonball Z", LOL. Anyways, our TV has been showing anime series since I can remember, although mostly kiddy stuff. But today one channel also passes some more adult-type anime (although not hentai). But still the more bloody/violent or adult-type anime can only be found in the Internet.

Besides Portugal, I've lived in The Netherlands for almost 4 years and in France for some months. I've to say that they are not as well served on anime on TV as we are on Portugal. However, in the Netherlands they have very nice shops specialized on Anime DVDs and Manga and even one Anual Anime Show (AnimeCon, in May), which we don't have here. But well, judging from what I read on some of the other posts, I think I can consider myself lucky. Smile

just as Blue-Jay, I also Live in Portugal....he resumed quite well our history Very Happy

i live in Viana Do Castelo in the North of Portugal...

I currently live in North Dakota for grad school (meteorology) not a huge fan of this frozen wasteland to be honest but meh what can I do.

I use to live in Michigan before grad school went to Central Michigan University for undergrad and lived in the metro Detroit area before that. Ahhh cities with traffic and peopel who can drive I miss that.

Seems to me i haven't posted where i actually lived in this thread...

Well live in a little suburb called Madison Heights, in the state of Michigan. I live about 20 minutes away from Detroit and Canada. And yes, I have been to 8 mile. In fact I have been all across 8 mile, from cambell all the way to the detroit area. Oddly enough most of the major roads in michigan just have a number. For example the street next to me is 13 mile. But the real kicker is that all the mile roads change names somewhere along the the road. It is incredibly stupid. 13 mile becomes Chicago, which has the road "Old 13 mile" running next to it. Then a few mile down it turns back into 13 mile. and by that time Old 13 mile is running next to it still, so everybody gets confused. Not to mention michigan lefts.

I know that area but then again I am form Sterling Heights and will be there in about a month (yeah trips back home!) and LOL to the 8 Mile comment, I remember driving by Eminem's old house back in high school for fun.

Ahhh Michigan lefts, I have to admit now that I live in another state they made sense. And love how in Oakland county all of the mile roads become something else, trying to explain that to someone not from metro Detroit ... good luck.

Well, I live in a crappy country called Uruguay, in south america (si hay alguno mas de ustedes por ahi, no duden en mandarme un pm (to all those who are from Uruguay)). It is a small country neighbouring Argentina and Brazil, so we are kind of in a tight spot, huh? : P
anyway, anime here is imposible to get, literaly, anime DVDs dont get here at all, all you can buy are pieces of crap which they download from free fansubs (unbeliveable, right? its even more unbeliveable that there are some who actually buy them XD), the manga's prices are outreagous, specially considering the fact that they cost half as much crossing over to Argentina, and the market is quite small and almost non-existent. But oh well, we manage to survive and a comunity exists XD

That really sucks... Guess you can download fansubs with no guilt though.... cuz if you were buying anime you'd just be supporting cheap rippers...

I'm from a small little country farm in teh good ol sharp shootin tabacy spittin state of Texas.. which kind've sucks for me, because I'm a city person who greatly dislikes rednecks... but oh well I've found a small, but still existant anime croud, and that's all that counts Very Happy

There's alot of diversity here though.. which makes me very happy, because I usually like forien people awhole lot freaking better than americans. Considering how much I hate mainstream america. =\

Thats exactly what I do, got no choice, I`d much rather being able to buy the original DVDs, but the only way to do that is order them via Amazon, and thats not very cheap, specially considering shipment fees.
I see you are in a similar situation as myself, although I bet you`ve got more access to original stuff, right? : P lucky you, lucky all of you who can get a hold of everything XD

Ah fellow Dorset Dweller! Laughing Yeah we do have some pretty sweet beaches here, people think they're useless in winter times but ya know, roller blading along the rolling waves is just the thing.

I live in what the locals around me call East County, which basically means I live anywhere between 10-50 miles east of San Diego, CA. (naming the exact town would only confuse everyone. Razz )

and for those that I'm sure will ask. Yes, I do go to ComicCon, Yes its very, very crowd, no I can't get you free tickets this year as I won't be working security there this year.

working security was fun though. I worked the graveyard shift mostly and got to wander the dealers room when it was quiet and you could actually take your time to look at things.

Scary, you actually live rather close to me - North County myself. What're the odds of that? lol

Alpine area I'm assuming? How was the fire damage out there?

And I make a point to avoid getting on the freeways during ComicCon. Never been myself, but for those wondering, Southern Cali traffic gets at some its worst during then - I know quite a few people that simply take the day off work the weekend when ComicCon starts. It's surprising how much worse the already horrendous San Diego congestion can get. =P

id like to go to anime expo myself. Then again i would love to go to otacon. But ill just have to settle for a-kon like i do each year. Gotta love the fact that its the oldest running convention in the U.S. though ^_^

Been there, done that. Anime Expo is one of the larger conventions, but back around 1998 the companies that produce anime both in the US and in Japan took control of the convention. The dealers room is one of the most tightly controlled of all the conventions I go to, and last time I went fansubs were outright banned from the showing rooms.
the only advantage is that since it is corporate, they have a lot of pull with getting directors and voice actors from Japan to attend the convention.
Its worth attending at least once though.

What're the odds of that? lol

not quite that far east. I"m off of the 67.

No fire damage near me this time. The 2003 fires got within 2 miles but were turned back before they did much damage to houses. Left the hills near one of the high schools bare of grasses and bushes though.

Actually Comiccon isn't too bad on traffic as long as you don't go downtown. (at least in my experience) But I've worked mostly in Kearny Mesa which is quite a bit north of downtown, or down in Chula Vista near the Mexico border, so my routes to work avoid the downtown freeways.

If you do plan to attend I have 2 recommendations.

1) pay the extra to stay at one of the hotels that is within walking distance of the convention center. (not too bad, but rather expensive.)
2) find a hotel near one of the many light rail stations and plan on taking the trolley to and from the convention each day. All trolley stops are within 1 hour or so of the convention center and a round trip ticket is less than $10 per day.

(I'd offer my floor, but you'd have about a 5 mile drive to the nearest light rail station, and its and one end of a line and a full 1 hour trolley ride from downtown and the convention center)

If you do go, DO NOT expect to be able to drive and park near the convention. There is not enough parking nearby and what parking there is will run $30 or more per day.
(the only way I was ever able to park while attending/working was if I was working the midnight to 8 security shift when the packing garages nearby would clear out and drop prices to $10 for the night. During the day, I take the trolley to attend.
