Ahh, the question which everyone keeps asking. It will take a while, since I keep in touch with the manga I know that the story has a long way to go before it can finish. The manga (and soon the anime) has started focussing exclusively on the Akatsuki-Orochimaru-Konoha intricrasies (sp?) with many new characters to come.

Where I am in the manga, questions about Naruto, his parents, possible relationship with the 4th, siblings (yes - he might have siblings) and powers are yet to come. Some question on Sasuke and the Uchiha are also now coming into play so that is another plot line Mishimoto will slowly unravel. All these would suggest that Naruto has another 3-4 years before the manga can finish. But considering the number of characters who have died in just the past 4 volumes (five characters which includes a very major character) will suggest otherwise - the fights no longer get stalled. Out of the past 6 fights, 5 people have been killed. That means that everytime a fight is fought a characters is biting the dust - if this is the way Mishimoto will lead on then the manga can finish in 2 years time.

Please note that I wrote 'can', because if wished this can easily become like Inuyasha - 554 chapters with no end in sight. Lets see how this pans out.

I have just checked out the manga as well and it seems to me that even after this whole problem of Akatsuki goes away and problem of Sasuke goes away, that's just one of the problems that will face Naruto. I say this because I fell that a lot of what going on in the manga is forced and sped up. The fights with Akatsuki is far too quick, unrealistic and easy, especially the Saori fight.

I personally think this Akatsuki business will be dealt with and buried within the next volume or 2, but the Sasuke one runs deeper.
