 Kannagi - I don't get it

I liked the show a lot. The character designs are interesting and I thought that is was genuinely and consistently funny before they started touching on the story at ep 12 or something. The creative directing and the colorful antics made it enjoyable imo, as the story is even cliche for the genre.

I thought she was ok as a character, interesting and enjoyable in conjunction with the others, but not spellbinding. She isn't very creative, just a cross between tsun and sweet-clueless (like the redhead, but with more tsun than clueless). As with all things in Kannagi, everything just ended up being more than the sum of its parts.

As to why others might like her, remember there is a reason why the tsun archetype exists - it's because otaku #2231 wishes for a hot girl shoving him around and relieving him of social responsibility. He sucks at life, so he wants to be lead by the hand. Imo Nagi is just the tsun for the otaku who has the nagging feeling that having the hots for Shana merits medical examination.

I suggest you stay way from Akikan then, nau, when it comes out. It's essentially Kannagi with soft drink cans instead of trees.

Can't say I have ever heard a legit reason to watch Kannagi.

Akikan is about to finish airing, is it not? I saw the first episode, and I thought it wasn't nearly as good as Kannagi. Not funny, not elegant, just stupid. Also, Akikan is way more ecchi.

All this talk got me interested. I started downloading it but it's still only at 64.3% so I've got a while till I can begin watching it and trying to answer your question. However, I've seen the hentai doujinshi (some 18 of them, by different artists) and all I can say is I kinda like the character designs.

I usualy avoid series that get way over hyped, but ofc there are times that I watch thouse too. And so I did... I tried to watch kannagi and well, after few first episodes I decided to leave the serie to be alone, I MIGHT give it a second try.. maybe.. 13 episodes arent that much.. but still :\

The best thing out of Kannagi is Nagi, but then again, at core she is no different than any other tsundere character. Thus the series, despite being very enjoyable, is weak and has nothing, not to mention that no matter how you look at it, they might as well have cut the series at episode 6 and wouldnt have made a difference in terms of the ending, which seems just so freaking random.

But it mostly suits on manga when it comes to parody type.
