Speaking of beer prices, ouchie.... Just got in from drowning my mates sorrows over him and his girlfriend braking up today and we went I this club we usually go in and its 80p a drink for every thing inc. Pints of Stella which isn't to bad, In today's climate that work out at what $1.10? Any way was a good night but I ended up drinking to many of those girly alchopops and absinthe Sad but at least he felt better, or worse I don't actually know he didn't start any fights tonight which is unusual but I'll take it as a good sign as when he was with her he use to start loads Razz Plus on the subject of third world countries it doesn't make your alcohol cheaper in England you can get 2 litres of cider for under a pound and its even cheaper in Scotland that's why they are setting a minimum price per unit up there, which is just silly, this nation was built on alchol Razz

Thanks Ken now I have to dig all my Oasis albums because you've made me want to listen to them Razz

Anyway better get a head start on tomorrows hangover nighty night Razz

I hate to sound like an alcoholic but I read through a few pages and I didn't really see anyone with a drinking resume like mine. Most people do not believe me but I will let you guys entertain it.
My first time drinking to get drunk was a 5th of Jack Daniels. 16 years old, straight from the bottle the whole thing. From my 18th til about my 20th I drank a 5th of Jack almost every single night/early into the day. I also usually finished the night off with way to many beers and occasionally other bottles of hard liquor. Usually Courvasi....(I have no idea how to spell it) or Cognac and occasionally vodka. Around last year I took about 8 months off work, and I usually drank a bottle of E&J brandy, along with a pint of Everclear and generally moved onto the Bacardi 151. For the most part I finished all of the bottles. For about 6 of those months though was every night 50-100$ worth of liquor with a friend of mine. A girl who could hang with me until the alcohol was completely gone.
One night I was pretty cheap and I bought 9 40oz bottles of Milwaukees Best Ice(nasty nasty beer) and me and her drank those, and then raided my sisters fridge and drank her cheap wine and once again raided my moms fridge and got her cheap wine also. Unfortunately, I do have some liver damage to prove all that. Sad

That's a really good example to the rest here not to overdo it.

I mean, yeah, have your fun, drink, but do it in moderation.

I'd pretty much tell everyone not to drink like me unless
A) You want liver failure
B) You want to build an extremely high tolerance

If I took this survey back when I first signed up here I would have said Jack Daniels Wiskey. While I still like JD on occaision I prefer red wine nowadays. Casilero Del Diablo is a current fave, its Chilean wine.

What's the point in having a high tolerance if you end up having liver problems along the way?

To me, having a high tolerance and being able to drink a lot and still not make a fool of yourself is just for bragging rights. To show off. Then again, to most sensible people, you are making a fool of yourself anyway when you drink so much and kill your liver in the process.

It's no longer "that fool's gonna spew nonsense from his trap and get 3 tight slaps". It's now "that fool's gonna check himself into hospital and have a new liver from a dead person". Laughing

Not fun if you ask me. Wink

I prefer beer most of the time. I don't drink that often or that much, but if I go to a bar I usually order a beer, long drink or a white russian. If I want something stronger, I would probably order a jegermeister.

To me, going to a bar or a pub has always been a social or business event. I don't go there for the drinks. I think I can get them cheaper from the liquor store and mix my own. So it really doesn't make sense to be getting so drunk you can't even talk straight.

Just go there, enjoy a few drinks, enjoy the atmosphere, the sights and sounds, and the pretty girls walking around. You're not enjoying when you're lying on the floor like a log with vomit coming out your mouth. Laughing

I agree on pretty much every part. When I go to a bar, I'm usually going with the flow. Sometime the gang wants to continue partying and ask me with them.

I can honestly say I dislike night clubs, or whatever they're called. With all that high volume techno, the lights and all, I always feel so... out of place.

Join the club. I wouldn't mind so much if the music wasn't ear-bashingly LOUD

I would have to agree with that.
I have a bar I like, a little place downtown called O'Rileys Pub. Good people and cheap drinks.

I guess we all think alike. I can't stand going to a dance club where the kids there (minimum entry age 18 for little girls and 21 for little boys) are all crammed in like sardines, where the music is so loud you can't hear yourself think, and where all the kids seem to want to showoff how well they can dance or how much they can drink.

It's always a challenge when you're leaving the place not to step on some drunk or his/her vomit or trip over a body lying by the pavement. Then there are the fights and scuffles and whatnot. And then the police show up and the lights come on and everyone starts cursing in all sorts of different languages (depending on their level of education and their ethnicity). It's not a nice sight.

I hate to see girls fight or cursing at one another. It's really ugly. Half the time they're using language I can't understand. The other half, I can, because I work in a very rough environment and I've learnt a lot of swear words from the workers. Those girls certainly have got better chops than even the workers.

So I've got this nice place I know and which I go to when I want to wind down. If I want the music louder (but not unberably loud) I sit at the bar with my drink. If I want to talk to my friends or clients, I sit outside. The drinks are nice (half a glas of whiskey/half a glass of coke, pop some ice in). I like my whiskey coke strong. A glass or two will last me the whole evening. If I need to stay longer to talk business, I usually go for an OJ.

That's the life.

Absinthe... powerful stuff. It's illegal for sales in all but one Canadian province. I bought a bottle a few years ago and sold it to a friend who brought it to a university party of his. I heard that everyone who had touched that bottle got sick, lol. That's what underestimating a 70% alc/vol drink will do to you.

.

I don't know if you know this or not, or well, if anyone knows this. Everyone knows absinthe is a wonderful green colour, does anyone know why it is green? I'll give you a hint, diluted with water. The normal water turns it green. Try drinking some non-diluted absinthe. It tastes like gasoline, but you shouldn't drink it if you can't handle something as simple as Bacardi 151, which as we all know, is 75.5% alcohol. The non diluted absinthe is a murkey moldy green nasty looking colour. Wormwood is good to make it in, but be sure not to filter it, and don't drink the chunky parts, because you will die.

If it's cheaper than the stuff they sell at the local pharma, I might consider using this instead to pour on open wounds and the like.

It's always good to save a few pennies here and there.

In University, I knew a guy (Bio-Sci grad student) who got 98% potable alcohol... He'd cut that 50/50 with pop (Dr. Pepper was his personal favorite, IIRC) That's got some nasty kick to it.

Using non-potable alcohol is a bad idea. (Heck, I think that at that kind of distillation level, ANY alcohol has to be carefully monitored so that it doesn't do you serious harm...)

Well, they all say you can drink ethanol but not methanol. I think they addd some coloring agent to methanol to warn you visually. To me, both are the same. Good for setting cockroaches on fire. I like my alcohol to taste good, not burn my tongue. I won't ever have any reason to go beyond 40%.

My family had some friends over, and my dad opened up a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label.

I died a little inside when I found out how much it usually costs on the internet... and that they drank the whole bottle.

Dude JW Blue Label isn't something you drink, you keep it on your shelf to let people admire it, fuck they should have just drank a bottle of Black Label instead. I had a glass of Blue Label late, late last year. I wish I could describe it other than "ZOMG!! PWNZ0R5 @77 WHI5K@Y5"
If your dad has tastes like that, then I do applaud him. As long as he isn't normally drinking garbage like Black Velvet or Ezra Brooks. Fucking gross whiskey.

Well, my father doesn't normally drink whiskey, usually red wine. But it was a special occasion as they hadn't seen them in years. I also think he has another bottle or two in their boxes somewhere.

Still, that isn't bad at all, atleast he knows a fine drink for special occasions.
As for me, I can't do wine, red or white. They turn my stomache really bad, that and straight gin. I will puke from one or two drinks alone.

Then you haven't tried really good wine. Red or white, normal table wines suck. But the $200 per bottle ones are good. Tried some a long time ago. Nice and sweet. I remmber it was a white, but I can't remember the label.

I don't know, I tried the 90$ a bottle wine and I couldn't do it, I honestly don't think I am cut out for wine drinking. I am sure 200$ a bottle is very good stuff, it is just my stomache. Some things just don't agree with me well, and wine is one of them. I can drink beer and champagne and the hardest liquor around. Vanilla icecream also makes me throw up, so I believe that is how life is. For me, price doesn't really make a difference with wine on if I can drink it or not. I actually had a glass of 1,000$ a bottle scotch once and I felt like I could have drank 5 bottles of it and another time I had a half a glass of homeade wine and I was sick for 2 days while nobody else had that problem. Maybe cheap stuff affects me in a bad way. When I was younger spending 50$ on a bottle of JD was fine because that is was I could afford. I have a hard time drinking any beer other than Guiness now(which is very expensive where I live), and whiskey less than 50$ a bottle doesn't do me to well either although I have been seen with cheap liqour lol.

JD's neat gives me a sore throat. On the rocks and it helps ease it down my throat. I still prefer a Johnny or a Chivas. These babies go well with soda or Coke. Sometimes green tea, if I'm in that mood.

I can't take beer. I think the situation is improving but too much still gives me a badly bloated stomach and some rashes. I used to feel really sick after a can. These days it takes 2 to make me feel miserable. So I tend to stick with the non-carbonated stuff. No champagne either. Gas problems.

Wine is OK. But while most peers prefer red, I prefer white. I love girls of all colors, but my wines must be white.

Well, last weekend when I went out I had it with coke (I pretty much always drink it straight at home) and for some reason it tasted badly. Whether it was because of something there or not I don't remember it tasting that bad last time I had it with coke.

The best ratio to mix your whiskey with Coke is half whiskey, half Coke then add a couple cubes of ice. Stray from that mix and it's either too strong or too sweet. For me anyway.

wow I post way to much in this thread, maybe I drink to much? Razz

Ok so I said I would not drink till I started training, that lasted 5 weeks till now when my knee has healed Razz

Maybe we should have like an alcohol discussion thread, also most of us are of drinking age which really does break the stereotype of anime watchers Razz Any who I'll plough on, I was wondering in all you respective countries how much do you tip at the bar, I never know how to tip! I have been drinking in pubs for 4 years but have never picked it up. I used to tip to much now I don't seem to tip, I don't know how to do it! Razz Though I always seem to end up tipping taxis way to much, tonight my taxi was 7 pound and I tipped him one pound, now people say that is way to much though I feel I have to, to apologies for my racist mate lol. tipping in bars I dont get it!

On topic I drank way to many girly alcho-pops tonight Sad , The club near me was having a "Christmas Eve Party", don't ask, The answer is there Idiots as are the people that go Razz.
Any who they were 30p dearer, has any other country put the tax up on beer? Our country has now decided to put the tax up on "Working class Drinks" Such as lager and spirits but they didn't on good wine or champagne. What utter Bollocks.

I don't tip. We don't have a tipping culture here. Sometimes I might say "Keep the change" but that's about it.

I've said that a few times and that's as far as it goes.
Tips aren't common around here. I've never seen anyone do it myself.
When I did bar work no one did it to XD.
