Do As Infinity!

They have a new single, Umareyuku monotachihe. Released June 17. I've been playing their older songs after hearing this one the first time. I missed the band.. I'm really glad that they're back. Very Happy

I've listening to Justin Nouzuka. I'm really enjoying his album. Very different style from his brother.

Also Collbie Callait, and Taylor swift.

Generally, I don't much enjoy classical. To be more precise, it's difficult to find something which could grab me from start to end.

Sole exception is Pachelbel's Canon in D Major. Played it on an endless loop at work today (10 hours). It's just beautiful to my ears. Could be because it uses three violins.

Have you heard it before?

have to agree with cranston...

classical music have some parts that are amazing but listening to whole 15 minutes for that one part is nothing for me

i like Orffs Carmina Burana and some of the Richard Strausse stuff especially space odyssey theme

pachelbels canon sure is awesome but i like it more guitar performed by Emerson Lake and Palmer, which cant be called classical music anymore ^^

Precisely. I feel that way about Beethoven's 5th Symphony and Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries, for example.

Anyone remember the music that Angelica played on her radio in Gunslinger Girl? During the meteor shower? As I recall, I kinda liked that one also, but also not from start to end.

They sing Beethoven's 9th, Ode to Joy, at the end of the first series of Gunslinger if that's what you mean.

I've heard that before. Never in its full version, but I definitely know it and love it.

Classical music is usually something I enjoy when I find my mind wants to take it in. If I feel into it, then I'll listen to several pieces on loop if my mind is just in that state. Same pretty much with some of the other genres I like, which explains why I listen to music in different stretches.

An hour ago, in the subway, on the PSP, The Pillows - Boathouse and The Pillows - Scarecrow. I believe they're from the Moonlight Mile OST. Scarecrow's bassline is easier, and I really love the song. Boathouse sounds more upbeat, happy but the bassline is more difficult to transcribe.

Really liking the album by the alternative supergroup that is The Dead Weather. Comprises of Jack White (The White Stripes & The Raconteurs), Alison “VV” Mosshart (The Kills), Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age) and Jack Lawrence (The Greenhornes & The Raconteurs).

@Wolf Brother: a bit belated, but I love The Dead Weather. I've heard a few songs from their album and really enjoyed it, but I have yet to listen to the album in its entirety. Can't find it for the life of me Sad

***

Haven't posted here in a while, but this is what I've been listening to as of late:

My sister and I went through our collection of 45s and CDs/singles of Michael Jackson's music. I pulled out "Say, Say, Say" just because that was one of my favorite collaborations between Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. I also listened to the whole of Thriller and Off the Wall for a little while (okay, more than a little while, I loved both of those albums as a kid and it hasn't left me since that time, though honestly it's been a while since I've listened to his music. Sad ) before shifting to some other albums to listen to.

Heard the latest Silversun Pickups CD and really enjoyed it. Panic Switch was on repeat for me as were a few other tracks from it like "It's Nice to Know You Work Alone", "Catch and Release", and "Surrounded (Or Spiraling)", but to be honest, I liked it on a collective note. I don't know if it overtakes Carnavas for me as an album, but it may take more listens for me to grow into it.

A friend of mine brought me back into listening to YUI (he loves her Wink ), so I've been listening to My Short Stories a little back and forth.

That's the music I've been playing the past few weeks. As of right now/this morning: listened to a few Radiohead songs, a few Oasis songs from their Dig Out Your Soul album, and Rebekah Jordan's "The Art of Losing".

Edit: Oh God, I knew I forgot something: I heard Scott Matthew's new indie album "There is an Ocean that Divides". It was a very pleasant listen. He has a soothing voice, one I usually listen to just before retiring for the eve at times.

Bloc Party - Silent Album

After seeing these guys appear at #42 in Triple J's Hottest 100 of All Time list, I was rather intrigued and decided to check them out. Now I get why there's such a fuss about these guys. They are good...They have this volatile, vibrant feeling that just perfectly captures what it was like to be suddenly stepping into the world of adults, chasing the horizon without inhibitions and feeling invincible. Helicopter is a snarling beast of a song that just can't be restrained. Two More Years was an unusually laid-back yet just as moving ballad, a very soothing rhythm and a very sly dig at the mandatory gap between albums. And Banquet is just sheer genius. Short and sharp riffs bouncing off between two blazing guitars and a layer of base that creates a sneaky third member to reflect off, while Matt Tong bangs his drums so fast and with such precision you could almost think there were two drummers. Kele Okereke is one of the most unique frontmen I've seen in a long time. Wild yet coherent, exotic yet clean, very natural and honest lyrics, very charismatic. The idea of a black guy on lead vocals and an Asian guy on drums in a punkish band almost sounds too surreal, yet it works so damn well. For a debut album, it's a completely refreshing jolt of life. Best thing to come out of Britain for quite a while.

Nothing much new to hear apart from repeat listens of Radiohead,I love their lyrics-so meaningful when you listen on repeat...and songs of Oasis-from their latest album...almost all songs are good cant pick out any favorite..so a question to the audiophiles..anything new(album/band) to try out?

Bloc Party have been compared to both those bands, Slayer. They're also been compared to Blur, Sonic Youth, Joy Division and The Cure.

I'd second this recommendation too, Slayer. They're a good group to get into if you haven't heard them before.

Led Zeppelin I and II remastered on flac. Ooooohhh, this is so awesome!

btw, I tried out a band called Porcupine Tree. Deadwing was the name of the album. Brilliant stuff. Arguably the best progressive rock band that I have listened to this entire year (which actually is not saying much because I have not really listened to much prog this year. Razz). But still, this was a very a good find. I'm going to try out more of their stuff soon. Recommended.

Go Aval! I love Porcupine Tree as well Smile I have a feeling you'll like their other albums as well if you liked "Deadwing".

***

I'm relistening to Mark Gardner's collaboration with Goldrush for "These Beautiful Ghosts". I still love that album as much as I did the first time I heard it. And I'm also listening to The Dead Weather's album. Smile

Thank you Wolf_Brother, you're awesome!!!

Just found out that Jack's Mannequin are playing Manchester soon, I couldn't believe it at first, I have loved Jack's Mannequin for years but I never check out tour dates because I thought they would never play over here as no one really knows them. Then I stumble across the fact that they are doing a gig here in a month, so obviously I got my ticket the second after, CANT WAIT!!!!!

So ye listening to Jack's Mannequin and really got back into what I dub as the "One Tree Hill Music" as that's where I first learned of most of these bands, so bands like Jimmy East World, Jacks Mannequin, Audioslave, Nada Surf ect........ Really reminding me of college though, well not really college as I was hardly ever there in a mental copacetic as it was so shit, but the walks to and from college with my Ipod in Razz

Yet another convert yay! Razz Honestly I have to thank rosepetals alone for introducing me to their music Smile..they are amazing,.their music has so much re-listen value..be it the sublime vocals or be it the terrific drumming by Gavin Hansen,a very good package overall...Deadwing is one of their best..do try out these as well-In Absentia and Lightbulb Sun-I did like this album contrary to what some said I would not like it...listen to the songs-Last Chance to Evacuate Planet Earth Before It Is Recycled,Russia on Ice and Shesmovedon from there-the title track is good as well..

By the way OT,just curious to know..do FLAC files support on Ipods?Dont they have to be in mp3 formats? I would love to listen to Led Zep in high audio quality format.

Flac is indeed not supported on Ipods... I was listening to it through my laptop. Come to think, lemme see if I can find Porcupine Tree on flac. *crosses fingers*

Has anyone listened to Howlin' Wolf here? Worth trying out? *aval is feeling blue right now*

Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago

An album born of isolation, near-fatal illness, a bitter breakup - brilliant folk music. Skinny Love is chilling yet so soothing. Such dark material, yet it's peaceful. Amazing.

Just really gotten into Eric Clapton, I love his stuff with Cream but I adore his solo stuff. I am absolutely gutted though as my dad and my uncle went to see him live a few months back and I had a chance to go but I had only heard a little Clapton back then and wasn't interested but now I believe it could be one of my biggest regrets, just listening to his songs gives me chills I could only imagine the thrill of seeing him live! That's why I am now ceasing the moment when it comes to music whenever a band I like is touring I just by a ticket no matter where it is lol. Luckily Jack's Mannequin are playing near by ( even if the tickets haven't come yet Sad ) but The Specials are like 200 hundred miles away, but it will be worth it! Very Happy

Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago

An album born of isolation, near-fatal illness, a bitter breakup - brilliant folk music. Skinny Love is chilling yet so soothing. Such dark material, yet it's peaceful. Amazing.

That's one of my favorite albums released in the past few years. I think I might have written something about it a while back in this thread, but I don't remember when it was.

That explains the lyrics in your sig Razz "Skinny Love", "Blindsided", and "For Emma" I still find myself playing quite a bit from time to time, though in truth, I love the whole album, and it's really hard to choose favorites. I think Sun Kil Moon/Mark Kozelek is one of the few artists alongside Bon Iver that have that soothing effect on me in a melancholic way.

I went through my CD and digital music collection the other night, trying to find things to add to my Ipod so my sister wouldn't be on my case as much (we share them among each other, but I usually end up being the one to rotate songs through it from time to time). And it reminds me that I need to update my digital/CD albums list because I'm literally at a backlog. I'm still trying to catch up to some of the new releases.

New CDs I've listened to? The last one I can think of off the top of my head was Clazziquai's "Mucho Punk" album. I liked it a lot, it was so much fun to hear some of the tracks from it. "Love Again" was one of my favorite songs from the album. Just something about Alex singing "I'm in love!" just made me smile quite a bit when I first heard it. "The Road" is gorgeous from a mid-tonal electronica standpoint. I also loved "Lazy Sunday Morning", "사랑끝에" (I hope that displays correctly in the post), "Tell Yourself", "Chocolate Truffle", among a few tracks from the album. I have to say this is a stronger effort from them than "Love Child of the Century" (though I liked that album).

Fear Of a Blank Planet - ruddy brilliant - that's what this is. Anesthetize was beyond awesome. I am still listening to the last 2 songs, but this has turned out to be great. I did not imagine that prog rock could actually have such complex melodies and layering. Its not hard to see why this one a grammy. Still I would not rate it as high as Deadwing though - the latter was incredible. Smile
