Nodame Cantabile author has Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Manga artist Tomoko Ninomiya reported on her personal blog on Tuesday that she has carpal tunnel syndrome, and thus has continued to put her Nodame Cantabile series on hold. She said that her hand would get numb when she tried to write words a month after she gave birth to a boy on October 24. The symptoms gradually spread to both arms to the point that there was swelling and eventually pain, especially in the morning when she woke up. She went to a doctor who confirmed the diagnosis.

Ninomiya took time off from her manga drawing in October, the last month of her pregnancy, to have her baby. After her baby was born on October 24, she reported in a November 3 blog entry that she could not raise her right arm because an unknown pain in her shoulder and arm. The new Nodame Cantabile: Paris anime sequel premiered in Japan in October, and two live-action films were announced last month for 2010. Del Rey will publish the 16th of the 21 current volumes of the manga in North America next month.

Too much writing? I've never heard of someone suddenly getting CTS after giving birth. I mean, I know guitarists who play with their instruments slung too low may suffer from it. Writers... Possible. But doesn't she have assistants who help her with mundane stuff like shading, background artwork, etc? That would at least take some workload off her.

hopefully she considers surgery. CTS is cureable just by making an incision on carpal ligaments, thereby widening the carpal "tunnel".

Carpal tunnel Syndrome effects millions
just sharing this...

Try this easy exercise to stretch the tendons and ease the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome.

1. Extend your wrists and fingers outward, ahead of your body, positioning your hands and fingers toward the ceiling, like you are signaling someone to "stop".

2. Wait five seconds in this position, then relax and straighten both wrists in front of the torso.

3. Keeping the arms straight out front, clench both hands in a fist.

4. Rotate the wrists down to the floor while maintaining a fist and then hold for five seconds.

5. Relax and straighten both wrists and hands into their normal position and repeat the above steps for as many as five to seven more times.

Dunno how many people know this but Nodame Cantabile manga will be ending next year. I read it on some blog - just can't find the link.

The two TV live action movies which will air sometime in Spring next year will feature the manga ending. Smile

EDIT: It was on ANN. search for the link on you own. Razz

THAT is great news!

I'm missing Nodame and Chiaki. If they are still the actors for the movie, that is. Those actors were great as Nodame and Chiaki. It's like watching the manga characters on TV. (for me)

Also an OAD was released recently with the manga volume 22. So something to look forward to before the 3rd season starts. Smile

Supposedly that 3 episode OVA is the end. That is the supported theory thus far. Doubt there's enough material left for a season.

What 3 episode OVA? Confused The Nodame OVA is just a single episode OVA which came bundled with volume 23. At least that is what I have read.

As far as I know, the 3rd season of Nodame is due to start January 2010. The second season took it up to volume 17-18ish, so there is around 6 volume worth of material to be animated.

Zzz, I got fed misinformation. Apparently the real deal is that the anime, manga and live action will finish on the exact same date next year. The anime starts in January and all forms of it will finish in April.
