Prices of lager at my place have gone up by over 15% in the past one year.
As for tipping in pubs - i never do it. The bastards charge double, even triple the price for every goddamned drink - be it a pint or a scotch. And on a weekend, the good pubs charge an entry fee. I wont tip if the pubs raise the prices to such exorbitant levels, screw the tip!

I got charged 3.50 for a CAN at Manchester Student Union! I told them daddy doesn't pay for all the things in my life!
They weren't amused

They probably reasoned that daddy doesn't get to drink that can of whatever that's in your hands either.
Dads generally don't get amused when they have to pay for something that goes down the throats of their sons.
Heck, if I have to be paying for something, then I'd rather be the one drinking that something too.

Those are the prices that make me figure that I can go to the liquor store, buy what I want to drink there, and drink it at home.
I don't go to a bar "for the atmosphere" I don't find it relaxing at all, so no thanks. I'll have a quiet drink at home, when I feel like it.
I like Vodka, and usually have a couple of bottles. One I'd use for mixing, but if I have a bottle of Grey Goose around, I'd usually drink that straight. I tried mixing hte Grey Goose with some key lime soda. Just generic store brand stuff, but it was awesome! I hadn't done it before, since the Grey Goose costs easily twice as much as the other stuff that I buy, but the difference in how it tastes is totally worth it.
So now, I still have a bottle of the other stuff, but I'm going through a lot more of the expensive stuff.

So I got an email about 15 drinks with very high alcohol content which has me asking the following question:
Has anyone on these boards tried Bacardi-151 neat (75.5% alcohol) or grain alcohol (98.5%)?

No. Not suitable for human consumption. That's my opinion anyway.
I'd probably use that to light my BBQ charcoals though.

Yeah, that I what I also found from searching for these drinks from the net. Apparently (and not surprisingly), folks pass out/puke after just 120ml of grain alcohol. Now that is STRONG!!!
Still, the word out is that these drinks are best suited for making large quantities of cocktails for college parties and all that...

How could you.
But yeah, I think it's too strong unless heavily mixed with something.

It's just plain old grain alcohol. What taste could it have, except bad. It's not going to taste better than any old whiskey.
I'm guessing, even when highly diluted with juices or soda, it's not going to taste any better.

yawhoooo every body!
I usually only post in here when drunk, but tonight I am wasted . I have had a reevaluation to put in the booze thread tonight, after 19 years of my life, this is the first night I have ever danced on a dance floor . Ok I was pretending to play CoD4 but I was dancing none the less
Tonight is really saying something when I drank more then my alcoholic mate, but the 8 mile march home did me good. Still scared me more that anything though, its's funny I have walked past men walking dogs at 3.00 3.30 and 4.00 and it doesn't bother me, it's ghosts that scare me
So ye tonight I witnessed the best side of britishness and alcohol, a pub only 10 people full but all talking to each other and watching the football. Then my friend and I went to a club where for the first time ever I out drank him, and went on the dance floor. The club shut 3 hour's ago and I dropped him off after 20 mins and ended up (as I usualy do) walking hours home over the moors, which isn't good around Manchester :S. But I'm home ok (no ghost's) and I earned brownie points with his sister so all well.
On topic I always drink Guinness any way but its the 250'th anniversary this year so get drinking

When you're piss drunk, I don't think you'd notice even if a ghost kicked you in the butt.
Yeah, I noticed it's the 250th anniversary of Guinness. The TV ads are all over the place.

You'll need to slowly get used to it and build up your alcohol tolerance.
Not just so you could drink yourself silly though. It's just that some social situationcs call for you to entertain and drink, and you don't want to look like an idiot in front of important people. People who make be paying your salary.
I guess you're not at that age yet, but it's never too early to start, especially when whiskey is so nice to drink too.

I just bought a dozen cans of Tiger for a house party with some friends this weekend. Probably not quite enough, but I might consider mixing up a batch of shandy with the Tiger and some 7-Up to make it last longer. Or I might water it down a little.
I'm still quite reluctant to try beer though, any kind or any brand. Maybe once in a while, when I have to entertain and all that's available on the table is beer. Otherwise I stay far away. I wouldn't mind serving beer to guests though. Cheaper than serving the good stuff.

By God no matter how cheap they are I will always loath alco-pops, bid out to night and I got a few good pints of Guinness then I was in a club where they only sell that crap, they are awful :S
Also every time I go in these places my view of the young people in this country just goes even lower, well if it could go lower than rock bottom, and I shudder to think these will be the people in all the jobs in the country in a few years.
Should really listen to The Lancashire Hotpots - Bitter Larger, Cider, Ale Stouts it's an awesome song, how my area used to be like before all these chavs

Well, thing is, these alco-pops or what I call girly-pops, are fashionable among the younger set. You get a brand-name liquor and your mix it with something sweeter, and it all comes ready-mixed in a bottle that looks nice. And it's not expensive either so they can afford them.
Trends come and go. But don't worry, real whiskey is here to stay.

Really? I'm surprised to hear that. All watering holes I frequent have a good stock of several brands of whiskey. Plus other stuff as well of course.
Is there a national policy over there that tries to make business serve watered down shit like girly-pop? Maybe a national anti-drink/drive campaign or something?
Over here, there's a campaign to discourage drink/drive, but they don't stop businesses from serving/selling the real deal. You drink, you don't drive. That's it. They don't nanny you by selling you some 4%-alcohol-content shit.

It's not due to drinking and driving, as they are just swapping quality for quantity, so people are still getting wasted just on lot's of the cheap stuff, but ye I think I know of one bar in 1/10 that sells the good stuff.

I had some glasses of champagne tonight. Oddly, it tasted pretty good even though I usually dislike champagne. Somehow I missed out on the wine though, but that's probably for the best. Haven't found a wine that I actually think tastes good.

What a shame. I know of some young punks (friends from work) who like to gulp down their cheap shit. They get high on hugh quantities of girly-pop. They think it's cool. They look at me slowly sipping my whiskey and they think I'm odd. Or that I can't afford lots of drinks. But that's not the way to enjoy your drinks.
I just think they're really stupid.

And I want to be honest, drinking all those mixtures makes me want to puke more. For me, it is like drinking water, mixed with some alcohol.
That is why I do not like to drink those in bar/pub nowadays. I still prefer to open a bottle and enjoy it slowly. I prefer cognac, but a good green or blue label whiskey should also do the trick =P
On the rocks and pure will and will always be much more enjoyable than doing some mix. I still drink some coke to back it, but never mixing them together in a drink.
Talking about that, I still have half a bottle of Martell that I haven't drank in a year and it has been opened... I do not know if it is still safe to drink >_>''

I had this Cypriot spirit the other week call "Zivania", I have to say It has a kick to it and beat's the normal spirit's, It wakes you up as well if your drinking it first thing in the morning. I also had KEO for the first time as well, it was a nice beer but It wasn't anything special.
And there is a pub in Manchester that has started serving a "Cantona" ale that I really want to try, I mean it's named after a God so it must be nice.

So would a beer named "Rooney" be 2nd-rate then?
I didn't touch a drop of alcohol over Chinese New Year. All I was offred was beer, which makes me sick. I was waiting for some relative to offer me whiskey, but I realized they were too cheap. They keep them whiskeys for themselves, or for display on their shelves.

Unfortunately "George Best" is out of production. I'm no Man-U fan, but I know who (individual players) I like.
Anyway, my tummy's been giving me a bit of problems lately so I thought I'd better stay away from the good stuff for a while until things settle down. Maybe something light will have to do. I'm looking forward to Friday though because I'm going out for dinner with an uncle from Oz and he's a good sport and I'm taking him out for a few rounds of drinks. Though I'm afraid I'll have to stick with the light stuff and limit myself to maybe a glass or two max.
