Yup! I agree with you Ken. Also too many remakes of J Dramas and Tai Dramas. Very few K dramas I truly enjoyed.

Oh, we finally agree on something! That's fresh. Laughing

It depends on the dramas I would say. I watched Love in Paris and this other one (forgot its name), which goes to show how little I've watched of k-dramas, and I found it more realistic than the only J-drama I've watched, which is Yukan club. For Yukan club, think Ouran Host Club. It's that exagerrated and overdone. Laughing

You'll need to watch more J-drama then. I'd prescribe an hour each day of J-drama, to be taken after dinner with a glass of milk and a smile.

I think it depends on the K-dramas you watch - I'm not quick to label them all as overly sentimental, because of my own experience in watching. For one, I adore My Name is Kim Sam Soon, and that's K-drama/comedy done very well imo. Full House was good, too. (And I'm Sorry I Love You was one I enjoyed despite it falling quite heavily in the melodrama category...very heavily.). I love J-dramas slightly more because I've been able to see more of them over the years, but I'm not necessarily particular to either one because I usually look into the series I'm interested and just watch them. I can usually tell the difference between one that turns out really good and one that makes one go D: and Crying or Very sad the whole time. And by Crying or Very sad I mean in good and very bad ways.

@Shiru Watch way, way more J-dramas. Smile There are some very, very good titles to see.

Gah but I don't have tiiiiimmmmmmmmmmeeeeeeee............ >_<

Now that my favorite TV shows have started up again after the summer, I've been busy catching up on those, e.g. ANTM, Lie To Me, Wipeout, Nabari no Ou (don't need to catch up on that. I like it too much to put it down Twisted Evil ), Bleach, 07-Ghost ended (which made me sad Sad ), and I can't think of the others off the top of my head. I also have to study, but since J-dramas seem to come in so high regard, I'll be sure to watch some. I watch um, C(?)-dramas the most, and those have satisfied me most of the time (if you can get past some of the terrible acting).

Actually, I prefer Korean acting to Japanese acting. But I like Jdramas more than Korean dramas because of the plots (weird topics can be easily found..haha) and the short length. Kdramas and Taiwanese dramas are too long and can really be dragging.

Regarding Japanese acting, they act like "anime characters", so everything is exaggerated. It's usually fine with me but can be irritating at times. I hate Princess Princess (watched episode one, deleted all episodes after watching it) and sometimes Hanakimi. If not for Toma Ikuta's Nakatsu which was so manga Nakatsu, I would have stopped watching it. My recommended Jdramas are Ryusei no Kizuna, My Boss, My Hero (this is pretty old, but really fun) and Orange Days (hmm...pretty old, again. Confused ). Or look for Takuya Kimura jdramas, most of them are really good (i.e. Beautiful Life, Pride).

As for Korean dramas, it really depends on what you watch. I loved "Full House" but the end was not well done. One really good Kdrama for me is "My Girl" and I would watch it again over all other Jdramas I've watched (and loved). Good comedy with just enough drama, good acting, good story with a nice ending and not dragging like most Kdramas.

I'm late with my TV shows, but the season premiere of House was awesome, as well as the season premiere of Flashpoint. The whole EOD perspective of that episode of Flashpoint brought it home for me, because it's part of my line of work...

I need to start watching Flashpoint. I hear good things about it.

As mentioned in the other (locked) thread, I watched part of Stargate Universe (part because the feed froze so I missed out more than half of the show). It felt like a mashup between Stargate meets Startrek: voyager meets Battlestar Galactica (new series), and for the most part, it seems a little.. ok. It wasn't amazing by any stretch, but still, I'll watch it just because there's a lack of Sci-fi out there nowadays.

I gotta start watching sanctuary as well, I hear good things about that show as well.

Just watched Jeremy Clarkson's Greatest Raid of All Time and it was brilliant, had me in shivers for most of it, it's about the St.Nazaire Raid in 1942 and the Commando's that did it.

I dunno, my brother saw an episode of that that looked promising, but he said it wasn't all that suspenseful. He was expecting more action and drama, but instead he said it just dragged on and on.

On another note, I need to start watching Lie to Me. I heard the first episode of the new season was epic. I also want to start watching Dexter, which I heard was pretty good. Oh, and Glee too. Oh f*ck it, my list of shows to watch is so long I don't know if it's possible for someone like me to finish it within 2 lifetimes.

I second that, I mean it's ok to laugh at the freaks at the beginning and stare at Cheryl Cole and Holly Willoughby for hours but watching this stage is just makes you lose your faith in humanity Razz

Finally got around to watching Lie to Me and I must say, the first ep of the new season was as good as I had heard. Very action-packed and since I love abnormal psychology, dissociative identity disorder was right down my alley. ^_^ The next ep sucked though, and then it was better, and it has kinda plateaued for this 4th episode. Expecting more to come. Cool

I also tried out a full episode of The Office and, I dunno, I just found it incredibly boring. There were very few moments where I actually laughed. Mostly I just smiled. I prefer their shorts much better, like the one where they did Parkour.

i think many people crossover from anime to jdramas/or asian dramas in general. and now that i have seen many dramas both jp and korean i would say there are definitely many bad dramas in japan but in korea they are mostly bad/boring.
anyways i really liked "shika otoko aoni yoshi"-dont judge it by the first episode. on the more serious side a fun to watch title was "ashita no kita yoshio"
you guys may also check out "ame to yume no ato ni", "1 litre of tears": these 2 both involve family and are a little sad and touching.
btw i think horikita maki cant act. any drama with her is ruined thanks to her.

as far as korean titles for females i would say a dating drama like "witch yoo-hee" is watchable.
a very nice take on a historic-set drama was "hong gil dong", and i also liked "flowers for my life"
i really cant remember the ones i hated by title.. figures. id say bad titles ratio for me is 2:1 when rating korea vs japan.

Just finished season 1 of Dark Angel for like the 7th time since it came out, It always good watching things you watched growing up, it's really obviousy to see how it made my personality the way it is Razz

Anywho just as brilliant as ever, there is never a diminishing effect with Dark Angel, and I noticed somthing for the first time, that at the end of season 1 when Logan is on the Space Needle it is so uncannaly like the opening to FFX.

Usually when you watch the Office - it takes a certain brand of humor to really appreciate. I don't quite laugh out loud with most of the skits they do, just the shorts.

And I agree, Lie to Me is a great series - first episode of the season was very well done. I love Tim Roth though Razz

I saw the premiere of White Collar on USA last week and really liked it. I'm hoping this week's episode proves to be good as well.

Oh good, I thought I was the only one who didn't get the humor in the episodes. I still can't wrap my mind around how popular The Office is. Maybe I can only take some much awkwardness and humor in small doses, so I can only truly enjoy The Office shorts (and SNL+MADTV shorts).

_______________

Tim Roth is so awesome. I've always wondered though, does he naturally have bad posture, or does he do this to fit the role? I never thought of Cal Lightman as having bad posture, and, I admit this is a tad nitpicky, but from the very beginning it's the only thing that's ever bothered me about his character. I can accept his other character flaws but I can't accept his slouching. Laughing Rolling Eyes

Just FYI, I haven't really seen Tim Roth in other roles, so I wouldn't know.

Recently finished season 5 of Grey's Anatomy. Bailey is still as funny as ever, though she was more emotional this season. I'm shocked at what happened to George. He was a nice and caring person. Finally, Yang found another guy. Burke was just not right for her. The victorian romance scenes between Yang and Hunt was too funny!

@Shiru Tim Roth is just acting more in character I think with his role in Lie to Me, but I'm not sure. Judging from his ability to play other characters in some of his films and other TV work, he's a full body actor. He really gets into his roles.

I loved him when I first saw him in Rozencratz and Guildenstern are Dead. I had read the play back in high school and watched the movie afterward. I couldn't stop laughing, Gary Oldman was also in this film so it was double the love. Razz R&G are Dead is actually a parody/comedic dramatic take of Hamlet.

Here's a clip of it if you're curious.

There are other roles he's known for as well - he was in both Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction with director Quentin Tarentino. I think depending on how Tarentino's movies boil over with you, you may like it or dislike it, but I think he played great roles in both of them. I've seen a number of his movies over the years, so I could name several that I liked.

I would highly recommend it. It does comedic irony and drama in a way that a lot of movies don't do as much today (it was made in 1990). I also think the chemistry between Oldman and Roth is very strong throughout the movie.

If you can find the play as well, I'd highly recommend reading it, it's very well done. Tom Stoppard, the writer, also directed the movie, so it's very faithful to the original screenplay, albeit some small differences.

@Anothar, that's one of my favorite scenes in the film, but it's among many memorable moments, I think Smile So many lines are quotable from it, it's crazy.

Only watching Top gear these days. Jeremy Clarkson is the only decent manly man around anymore. Although when House comes back, I'll get back to that as well, because Hugh Laurie is super special awesome.

Same here Rose, that movie looks awesome. I think, just from that I've answered my own question though. He'll never lose that swagger he always has. You know, where he slouches and bit and then walks moving both his shoulders to and fro. He does it in both roles normally, so now I understand that it's natural.

Definitely going to watch that movie (R&G) though. I love British humor! ^_^

Watched Defying Gravity 1-13 yesterday because I had nothing to do. Wasn't sure what to expect... the first episodes didn't seem all that great with all the "gossipy" stuff, but the plot gets muuuch better and characters are well fleshed out later in the series. But then again, it's one of those shows that were canceled by those DAMN AMERICAN NETWORKS just because of stupid ratings. If this show was on the sci-fi channel, it would have a second or possibly even a third season. Now we'll never know...

Just finished watching Dollhouse and I have to say I am disappointed, it started good, the cast were brilliant and the concept was superb, even if loosly based on a Stargate episode, which knowing them was probably base on a star Trek episode, but I think Joss Whedon in no way did it justice, I think if it had been given to James Cameron or the writers of Stargate it would have been outstanding but he just ruined it. I mean the story line after the first few episodes was awful, I mean if I had that technology why would I make prostitutes, surly I would make an army of the "Red Series" from dark angel, I think he also let the cast down they did I brilliant job especially the dolls playing all those different personalities but the characters themselves were so see through, dull and idiotic, I mean was that FBI agent suppose to be rouge? LMAO he need to watch Jack Malone or Jack Bauer now there rouge, he was just a bitch. The only 2 characters I loved were Sierra and tofer they were brilliant.

Been ill this week so also watched all studio 60 great series throughout especially the last 4 episodes brilliant, I can’t believe they might not be making another series.

I also found out they aren’t making another series of kidnapped. That’s bollocks, that show was brilliant. This is why the majority of people that watch TV are idiots brilliant shows get cancelled while they continue to remake the same old slice of life/romance shows over and over again.

well, they just announced that dollhouse is being cancelled, so I guess others felt the second season was a letdown as well.

Watched this week's episodes of Stargate Universe and Flashpoint. Nothing groundbreaking, but good episodes nonetheless. I also saw the last 2 weeks of Supernatural episodes. That TV ep was awesome, especially the Japanese Game show part.

I stopped watching Supernatural after the first episode. I'm going to wait until all the episodes are released, and then go and watch them all in one stretch. I enjoy them more that way.

Watching Mythbusters on TV. Not that I would make it a point to come home early on Tuesday evenings to watch it, but if I happen to be home, I'll watch it. Last night's episode was the one about the killer tissue box, while the side story was about splitting an arrow in half with another.

she should be due soon. I don't know if you've seen the recent episodes (the new ones that air every week) but she's getting pretty HUGE.

Edit: Those eps must've been filmed this spring or early this summer. Kari's already delivered her little girl. link

She was pregnant and already given birth? Didn't look it. I don't know which season is being shown in Singapore actually. Next week's episode involves a lot of firing rockets. It's about ancient rocketry technology and all that. Probably old season. Maybe from a year ago. That's why she didn't look pregnant at all.

Ahh yeah that's true. I remember seeing Mythbusters and China and all I saw was old episodes. That must be it. They're airing the new eps in America and you can see her pregnant. Smile
