The biggest earthquake in history occurred in Japan. Yesterday, we had an earthquake in Tohoku region (about 500km north from Tokyo). The magnitude of it was M8.8. It was the biggest in history in Japan.
I was about 1000km away from the center of the earthquake, but I felt it strongly.
At first, there was no news in the devastated area because the information line was cut off. However, hearing the news in the evening, I was terrible, cars were washing away by the Tsunami, and a port town is covered by fire.
Iwaki, Fukushima
Kesennuma, Miyagi
Studying the record of the earthquakes in these days, there were small earthquake around there before.
We also had small earthquakes here, and I?m afraid there will be an earthquake like this.
I hope the people there are safe, and wish the quick recovery from the disaster.

Very glad that you're okay Masahiko. I'm sure that we all hope for the well-being of people in the area, and a speedy recovery.
This is all over the news here, and I suspect about everywhere.

Good to see you're ok Masahiko. When I heard about it, I wondered if you and your family were ok.

Totally echo those sentiments.

A nuclear plant was seriously damaged; there was an explosion near the nuclear plant building and the turbine building, and the wall of the building seemed to be ripped off. They don't know what had happened yet, they don't know whether it was a nuclear plant itself or a turbine. Anyway, the announcers warned that people should stay in the home to avoid exposing to the radioactive objects.
I cannot believe it is a real, I wish it were fiction.
PS.
There was an announcement from the government.
The explosion was caused by the hydrogen generated from the cooling water because of the high temperature. It was occurred outside the walls that cover the nuclear reactor, and the nuclear reactor is not harmed. It was proved by the measurement of the radiation; it has been gradually decreasing before and after the explosion.

Well, I'm pretty sure that it won't be long before the Japanese figure out how to make their nuclear plants more quake-proof, and implement it.

I am deeply depressed.
I don't want to hear any news.
I've been sleeping all day long.

Earthquake, tsunami and potential nuclear meltdown. What's next? Godzilla to make an appearance?
My heart really does go out to those affected. Be well masahiko!

The nuclear situation status is currently all 6 core reactors are shutdown. the only concern being a spent fuel rod pool on the top of reactor #4 which is currently being cooled down with seawater. All nuclear fission activity in the core reactors has stopped so there is little or no danger of a total meltdown. However the cores of units 1,2, and 3 were damaged a bit.
