generally, i do think this anime sucked. However, I don't think the main character was the problem. The story was just incredibly weak and the character development was inefficient. The anime didn't totally suck though. It had a few good parts, most of which were in the first episode.

i meant the character development was "insufficient" not "inefficient" for those of you who were thinking "huh?" ^_^

But Tohru had to be kind, so everyone in the Souma family would accept themselves and not blame themselves for being what they were. So I think the story turned out well.

And about Card Captor Sakura, she did start out as a normal girl, and then she found a book in her basement and opened it, the cards were released etc. etc.
At least, that's how it went in the anime, I haven't read the manga.

I liked fruits basket very much, I think it´s a great series. In the other hand, I can understand why some might not like it...
And the talk about Tohrus kindness, I think it was just sweet Smile

The only time that her sweetness went "over", was the confrontation with Akira... that sure was irrational. But as said, it had to be done... Cool

i saw some of them & i think y're right about that.

But that topic (beside friendship, romance ect. ect.) goes like a red line through de story in fruits basket and some folks i know hate the serie because of that....

Yeah right, the anime ending left me so frustrated...made me almost think i had been waisting my time following the boring last dozen episodes...in example the "yukiclub" stuff...who cares?

i am allready accustomed to the so-called (by me) "japanese endings" of many anime, movies or books...but this one it definitly pushing it too far.

Moreover i deeply agree with the one who said Tohruchan is so hopelessly dull..it did annoy me alot in the firsts episodes..i finaly grew with some kind of tolerence...amused by her childish attitude and credulity...i mean i do think she is an empty character but she was meant to be as pure and naiv as possible i guess in order to encounter the stronger characters of the manga...and the only moment she evoluates is in this final 26th episode i allready talked about...

Now regarding the "homo-ero" issue...
The manga is openly dealing with this topic, Ayamesan or Harusan..hmm..in fact almost all male characters but Hatorisan...but on the other hand it always seems to be anecdotic or aimed on ironical purpose.. I don't understand well how it would be a problem and why you used this "BUT"...i guess since the story is somehow not very deep it can more easily be seen a main issue than in other manga...don't you think yuki just looks like Rei from EVA??

Anyway i'm talking too much, in the end, i appreciated this serie for it's soundtrack and general atmosphere even though it was a little bit repetitive (ie: same melancholic music usually starting in the last 10 mns...), i liked the drawings, all characters are beautiful (except tohruchan whose eyes are too big to my taste), i was disapointed with the scenario because it had started an interesting way and basically didn't went farer afterwards...

Now i was told the manga would give me more answers...i might give it a go soon..but can't anyone allready tell me..IS IT WORTH??

I will have to disagree..it may be I like the whole mushy togetherness thing, but I really likes this series. I was hoping for a second season. But I do not think one can really go on what other people think of a certain anime. Yeah..opinions will help or steer you in a certain direction, but in the end not everyone likes the same stuff....it's personal.

Dude this anime sucks major ass, i could only bring myself to watch 2 episodes and then i gave up. The main character has DEAD EYES that can stare into my soul. I voted yes. Tohru is actually one of the rare female characters surrounded by a ton of guys that didn't turn out annoying for me. Sure she preaches like in every episode but I didn't hate her character. I was amazed, really Very Happy

The series isn't that bad at all. It's the type that I would repeat after watching it for the first time.

I think Fruits Basket was great, but I noticed it did make a very quick ending which left me very unsatisfied....
Like it didn't take the story forward except in the last three episodes and that was kinda annoying...aside from that, a great series....
Though I think the manga might be a bit better (dunno yet, have only read the first vol.)

i wish kyo kept his beads off though he was so cool in his demon cat form and he messed yuki up wich made me happy cus i hate yuki hes a flaming homo.

I enjoyed the series. I felt that there were plenty of characters to love (like Shigure, Ayame and Kyo) besides Tohru.

And yeah, I didn't think Kyo was all that disgusting in his demon form either...

It seemed like everyone thought Kyo was just so shocking and gross, but finally seeing the transformation was kind of a let down. It took away from all the scenes of Tohru suffering in the rain. Actually it was more cool-looking than gross.

I kept asking 'what's the big deal?'

i didn't like this one, thought it was rather average.

mixed feeling for me all round, there were some halirious moments, and there were those sloooooo.....wwww moments as well.

it tried to be heartwarming and all, i just didn't buy it, i think it's the fact that i didn't like the lead female.

but having said that i didn't vote since it didn't "suck" nor was it any good.

Really? I thought this anime was great. It was unique. It didn't follow your typical out of the mill anime, in which case they would use up each episode to introduce a new character, and have another episode later on that dealt only with that character. This anime made me laugh. It made me cry. And, best of all, its values reached a level of transcendence. The lessons I learned from this anime really changed the person I was. Perhaps some of you weren't paying enough attention to the anime.
