 FoXBoX Acquires One Piece

Following up on Cadd's liscensing thread, One Piece is now not only liscensed by Funimation but now is gonna be shown on FoxBox along with Shaman King this fall. Poor One Piece Sad , another good anime falling in the wrong hands.

They've also acquired several other titles to add to their line-up this fall. I've gotta commend them for getting One Piece, its a great series, although most people will end up hating them if they ruin it with unnecessary editing or bad voice actors. Their other titles make you wonder what dunces work at that network though.

They acquired one of the worst anime that I have ever seen produced in recent years: F-Zero, and an Italian cartoon that looks worse than any most other cartoons I've seen around in recent years: Winx Club. If these are the types of choices surrounding One Piece, you can almost bet they'll find another way to insult fans.

The last show that I remember them acquiring was Tokyo Mew Mew, but having never seen it, I can't comment.

Is it going to be dubbed or something?

When have you ever seen a series airing in the US that wasn't dubbed? I don't think you can name one, I know I can't.

Even the drawing style doesn't change when the show gets imported. What would change with that aspect would be certain images or scenes getting edited out. Remember how Sanji always smokes a cigarette? One of the fans greatest fears is that it will be changed to a lollipop or candy cane.

I believe the manga was licensed quite a while ago. I forget if it was another Viz title or if it appears in Shonen Jump. I'm not a manga reader.

Well.. Even though it has been picked up it is still being subbed by a certain group.. They are probably doing it for fans that want to see it how it was originally designed to be, and not edited with sanji smoking a candy cane.

Anyway that is all I will say about that, and that is also all I want to see about that..

In other words.. Do not discuss where to get it or this will be locked.. That means NO asking either.

Agh!
Our worst fears have come true!
From ANN:
4Kids Announces Fox Box Schedule (2004-09-02 13:09:59)
One Piece and F-Zero: GP Legend premiere on September 18th. One Piece's Sanji will have his cigarette digitally edited into a lollipop for the broadcast.

I am outraged for Sanji! This totally ruins his image!
Stupid hypocritical American television can show kids the worst violence yet OH NO not cigarettes, god forbid. Evil or Very Mad

My poor Sanji!
Crying or Very sad

I got a question, did they bought broadcasting rights or the actual anime, because if they only bought broadcasting then i presume you would still get original when new episodes come out on DVD's?

Honestly I'm not sure... I haven't heard anything about DVDs being released. I don't know the ins and outs of licensing, but I hope if and when it is put out on DVD, it will be original, not "child-safe."

There are DVD's of episodes 1-120ish i think they were, or somewhere around that area, i seen laods for $150 form china. But if they dont change original DVD content then they can show it wierd on tv as much as they like (C4 in UK cuts alot of things from Futurama as well), i wanna get it on DVD when i get a job anyway Cool

Keep downloading cause the liscensed version blows. They changed Roronoa Zoro to Roronoa Zolo, imo, Zoro just sounds way better.

May have been legal issues about a swordfighter being named Zoro. Too close to Zorro.

Anyways, I've been told that it was changed in the manga when it originally came over so they're just following that same trend.

Hey, I have a dubbed version of One Piece on VCD which was released exclusively in the country I live in. It is fansubbed, and uncensored as well. But as crazy as it may sound, it's original. Because in the country I'm in, there is so much piracy, that original movie's prices went down. So i can get ori VCD's dirt cheap, but they are still alot more expensive than the pirated ones. Companies release their movies on VCD's so that instead of everyone getting pirated DVDs they just settle for a rather cheap VCD with subtitles in diff languages (that you can't turn off), and the companies still get money for it. The sub's arnt accurate tho, but they are still very well done. Only a few spelling mistakes. I guess the companies get some of the locals to sub movies or something. Better than nothing I guess.

Anyway, what I'm saying is, you guys are saying that they called him zolo right ? But I hear them talking in english, and they surely say zoro and I can hear the R. So does that mean the dubs I'm listening to are different than the ones u guys are hearing on TV ? Does captain Kuro sound like Vegeta in the one u guys watch ? I mean a little like Vegeta ?? Cus the voice acting in the one I got is pretty good, tho I few characters (like kid versions of the main characters), sound pretty high pitched and rather annoying at times, especially Nami and her sis. And Sanji is still always lighting a cigarrete.

It's in English, the dialogue I mean. The subs are also in English. And I never heard em say zolo yet. Unless they only do in the japanese version... :s

It makes me sick, editing films and series is a sin and should be punishable by electroshock to the testicles.

I dig subtitles, and if I bend enough I can understand dubbing for the kids (even though those little ba****s should learn to read in my opinion), but editing is removing the essence of the series, it's just wrong.

they started selling the lil volumes again at the store i got em from. I know that Nami's voice changes in the Jap one, but in the english one I have, it changes twice. So 3 different ppl do her voice so far. And they're all terrible save the first one. What is it that I'm watching ? Does this happen on the one that comes on TV ? I'm on the section where they go up against baroque works, and I got there in like 70 eps. Also sanji's voice changed...clown buggy's changed...and that purple haired kid from the beginning. It's crazy, and I liked it the way it was at the beginning T_T. Btw, this is all english dialogue I'm talking about.
