The newest super robot anime!
Well, there has finally been a sequel to Jeeg.

Kotetsu Shin Jeeg.

Post below is blatently copied from a post on the Megatokyo forums, but I would probably have said the same thing about all this anyway.



It's been a two year drought since Shin (new) Getter Robo, now Go Nagai and Jun Kawagoe are back with another updated 70’s super robot property: Kotestushin Jeeg.

Fifty years after the events of Kotetsu Jeeg, Queen Himika and her Yamatai Empire look to be back.



Professor Shiba is back as well…from the grave, though his cyborg son and pilot/head of Kotetsu Jeeg, Hiroshi, is nowhere to be found. What’s a crazy-ass mad scientist to do?


Thankfully, there’s a reckless youth who rides motorcycles...



...and is the likely love interest of Hiroshi's main-squeeze's granddaughter.



The power of magnets and “Ban, ban, ban, ban.”




Jeeg used to be a fatty, but now he’s sleek and pointy like all of Nagai’s updated designs.



Hotblooded-ness hopefully will follow.



So yeah, besides some silly looking 3D characters implemented during the bike-racing scenes and a somewhat weak opening from JAM Project (What’s up guys, where’s my “ban, ban?”), this looks to be a fun, if very standard, series update. Kotetsushin Jeeg was likely made for the super robot and toy collector audience, but general mecha fans should give it a try, you might like what you find.

PS: lack of a motorcycle riding protagonist is one of the reasons you’re so damn lame Reideen. And no Juunki, your scooter doesn’t count.
