150 Anime's "HOW MUCH IS TO MUCH?" 150 anime's So listed below are the 150 anime's i've spent 07' watching.
Looking at the list I asked my self "HOW MUCH IS TO MUCH?"
am I crazy for watching all this or should I add 150 more for next year?
Sorry, but can't see the point of the list and as some of it contravened the forum rules I deleted it - WB

Kind of a pointless post but I may leave it open for a while to discuss either the craziness of the OP or the How much question.

With any conversation, you can always turn it around to a good one
Well...considering I've seen over 150 series...does that necessarily mean people who have seen that many "have seen too much"? I don't think so-it depends on how long you've seen anime and really, if it's a hobby you love, then it's not something that should matter all that much.
I'm going on 10 years now, about half of those were really when I came into anime, so I don't know how to measure it. Is it a lot? Oh yeah. I'm surprised at this point I can keep track of what I've seen XD

Well, I think over 150 in 10 years is fine. 150 in one year - it depends on the length of the series. If it's like the 13 or 24 episode series, I'd say thats ok. But as long as it doesn't affect your day to day life, as in you are studying/working when you have to, and you make time for your family/friends etc. It should not become an obsession, where you spend everyday/night watching anime, and only leave it to sleep, eat, etc. You could seriously harm your health by not eating right, or alienate the people around you if you don't take the time to talk to them. But as long as you are not so obsessed that you forget life, I'd say go ahead, add more to the list. Personally, I have watched anime for.. maybe 3 years now. I don't know if I've seen a hundred animes, partly 'cause Naruto and Bleach went on and on and on.... and partly cause I get bored halfway and ditched some animes lol. But I think I managed my time fine overall.

I have watched around 75 anime series the past year since I was introduced to anime. Before that I did not even know what anime was.Anyways, from now on due to some pending activities and work in my personal life related to career,I do no think I would watch animes at a rate I have been watching till now but still I would not stop watching completely also.

Just to put your anime viewing hobbies into perspective, here's a little number play:
150 series in a year being fine? Whoa! For fun I calculated the time it'd take you to watch 150 series at 13 episodes and 22 minutes a pop -- came out to be 715 hours or roughly 30 days (non-stop, 24 hour viewing) worth. A nicer number is 8.2% of the total time in the year would be spent watching anime. 150 series at 24 episodes/22 minutes each would be 1320 hours or 55 days of straight viewing, equating 15.2% of the entire time in a year.
I've known myself to watch 3 series in a week on rare occasion when I have a lot of free time, but you'd basically have to keep that rate going all 52 weeks of the year to do so. If you did absolutely nothing but watch anime in your free time I think it'd be possible, but if you factor in all the other time consumers that makes it incredibly difficult. Here's a bit more of the numbers game for those interested:
There are 8760 hours available for you to spend in a year.
- If you sleep exactly 6 hours a day every day, that takes up 2184 hours or 25% of your total time. (If you sleep 8 hours a day it takes up 33.2% of your time!)
- If you work 40 hours a week for 49 weeks, that takes up 1960 hours or 22.7% of your total time. Factor in 5 hours total travel time for work and this becomes 25.2%.
So between very little sleep and work you've already taken up 50-60% of your time total for the year! Keep in mind of all the other things we have to do from day to day and this really starts to pile up! I didn't even consider a lunch break at work. Remember that 150 series would take up another 15% of your time, leaving you with 25% to do all the other things you need to do (shopping, laundry, eating, bathing, etc, etc.)
Now, 150 series over the course of 10 years would, figuring a series to be 24 episodes on average, would be a measely 1.5% of your total time. That's a bit more acceptable I'd think!

150 "series" is a lot. If just movies, it can be achieved for anyone who enjoys anime immensely. Over a year, I probably watch 20 series. For someone who has seen a lot of anime, I try to avoid the crappy ones because they just waste time. I don't want to watch animes that are known to be bad and I try to go for animes that are good. I still have a lot of good animes, such as NANA, that I have not watched yet. The animes just come out too quickly.

Of course, I broke it assuming everything you watched was a series, not including movies/etc. Anywhere from 20-50 series a year sounds right for any major anime fan, where 50 would be relatively extreme. I also spend a lot of time watching episodes of series that I don't finish (I have some 60 dropped series last time I looked) so that has to factor in as well.
150 series would be along the times of 3-4 hours a day for 365 days a year of anime, and I'm not sure anyone is really capable of accomplishing a feat like that. If I personally watched 4 series in a week, not only do I have to take some time off to acquire more things to watch, but I need a few days break inbetween. There's just not enough time to fit into your life to make it really plausible.
I think the point is, all good things in moderation. If you spend just 1.5% of your total time over 10 years watching anime, you could certainly consider it a hobby and not an addiction. If you look at the viewing habits of most of us long-term viewers of anime on the site, I'm sure it's relatively close to that percentage. Even if you managed to watch 300 series over the course of 10 years it really wouldn't be all that dramatically different, as I'm sure most of us probably factor in about 10-20% of our time as "free" (obviously varying on circumstance.) If anime only occupies a small fraction of your free time (if you figure 15% of your total time is free, anime would occupy only 20% of all your free time), it means you're still spending plenty of time doing other things -- in fact you're spending MOST of your free time doing other things.

I dont know if its too much, but its definitely a lot! if you are not really interested in developing a social life, then yeah, you might as well watch another 150 titles next year as well XD

Whoah! My entire collection is only 180 titles (some unfinished). I've been actively into anime for a little more than 2 years, so I suppose I'm also kinda got it bad
PS
By "active", I mean that my initial exposure to anime was Gundam Wing and Slam Dunk which really killed my interest in anime for many months. It's only the discovery of Ai Yori Aoshi that sparked my interest.

Assuming all your series were 26 episodes on average, 180 series over two years would be just shy of 10% of your total time at roughly 858 hours (or 36 straight days) a year of anime. That is pretty bad lol. If you spent an entire month watching anime without pause you still wouldn't cover it all. Let me see how many hours/day it works out to be...
...just shy of 2.5 hours/day. Now that's dedication for you!

it doesnt matter how much you watch but what you watch.
Or else you'd put in the same league someone who read 100 serious books with someone who read 1000 trash magazines.

so i wanted to ask you guys - i watch about.. err lets see 3-4 episodes a day on average or perhaps a little bit more? though i watch a lot more in holidays obviously.. its been.. 2 years and ive watched.. err downwards of 50 shows.. am i going to be burning out of anime any time soon? should i be worried that im going through series too fast? have any of you guys had similiar experiences?
basically, what im asking is, if i go at 2-3 episodes a day, will i run out of anime to watch anytime soon? im perfectly open to rewatching, but obviously there has to be some space inbetween rewatching...

Simple answer: no.
Long answer: no, you won't because they're always coming out with new series. you can always go back to vintage anime which are very good. every night, in Japan, there are at least 5 new episodes being shown on TV a day. 5 is a conservative guess, because these things run all evening through night, I think. so you'll be fine.

I've been watching anime for almost 30 years and I can say there's a ton I haven't seen. I have more than several hundred series and movies in my collection. Probably seen only about half of them. Quite a few I saw when I was a kid and never had the chance to collect them on VHS or other media.
When you divide that over 30 years, yeah I don't watch a lot per year. I used to spend about 3 hours a day watching anime but really, I only watch maybe 3 or 4 episodes per session, having to pause now and then to read sub. I can spend upwards of an hour watching a single ep if it's Chinese subbed as I'd have to consult a Chinese-English dictionary.
End of the day, I can't keep up with what's being put out every year. Too much anime and too little time, even if I do manage to collect more than I can ever watch.
You'll never run out of anme to watch, technically anyway. I'm more choosy with what I watch so that eliminates a lot of options out there. Stuff like Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, etc, you'll never catch me watching that stuff. Still there's so much "stuff-I-do-want-to-watch" out there I don't think I can ever run out of anime to watch.
