the rest of the bosses were too easy anyway. all you had to do was find their own status and/or element weakness , junction it with 100 of it and boom simple.
that's why omega is so interesting because he has no status weaknesses , elemental magics don't work on him , and he does 9998 dmg to one single player (does not drop to 1) among other bad ass area spells such as Ultima

*lols at the guys discussing how they beat different bosses in the fantasy games - thats SO guys*
I can't even remember how I beat what and what was the best way! LOL, its been 3 years since I played it the last time
Anyhow, the battle system of ff 12 - judging by the trailers I've seen - are seemingly quite different from what I've been used to in the fantasy games.

Yes, Square-Enix replaced the ATB system with the CTB system. It started with the FFX O.o particularly I don't like the CTB, nor the ATB... well, I don't like the ATB in FFVIII and IX, it's kinda annoying IMO, I think that the battle system of many MMORPGs (like Lineage, WoW and RO) is more comfortable ^^

What's CTB? Anyway, the FFX and FFX-2 battle systems were different. FFX-2 went back to the ATB system. It was so bloody irritating when someone is casting a spell and everyone else is just standing around unable to move until she finishes. Anime Law #51- Law of Uninterruptible Nominative Clamovocation. From the trailers for FF12, it looks like a realtime battle sequences involving moving around the battlefield. I hope it doesn't get as boring as .Hack.

I've played FF1, FF2, FF4, FF5, FF6, FF7, FF8, FF9, FF10, FF11, and the demo that's currently out for FF12.
My favorite is 4, by quite a margin, then 7, then 10, then 5, then 11, then 1, and I didn't really enjoy any of the others... but played them anyway.
Has anyone played the FF12 demo? It worries me greatly... FF12's combat is essentially single-player FF11... without macros to make the menu system un-suck.
Arg.
4 had everything, though... a great story, great characters, a great system of gameplay... 5 differentiated characters.
I like it when the characters and their abilities are actually, you know, different. The biggest gripe I have with FF7 is the materia system... I don't think every damn character should be slinging the biggest magics. Or magic at all, for that matter. I like there being one character (or a couple, whatever) who specifically summon. I also like summons to essentially be large spells, not "look, this monster replaces your party" type things. FF10 and FF12 both have that crap, and I don't enjoy it so much.

You know what kind of summons I'd like to see? The kind in FF9 when the bad guys use it. Utter devastation. Sink a whole fleet with Bahamut. Create a crater with Odin. That kind of shit. Please spare me the long cinematic sequences in FF7 and FF8 and the boosting stuff.
I felt that FF7 character strength wasn't balanced. I really didn't matter which party you used as there wasn't any noticeable difference. The best so far is probably FFX. The magic-users are clearly magic-users. The fast attack guys are clearly fast attack. Auron is Auron. Of course, there is certain imbalances in the sphere grid. Yuna is crazily megapowerful compared to Lulu. Once she learns the -ga spells, Quote: Lulu was obsolete.
Never mind Holy, Flare and Ultima.
Additionally, I love the system of switching characters in and out based on the combat situation. I'd like other RPGs to follow this innovation.

Time to talk about FFXII. Who here has tried the demo? I finally managed to borrow it from a friend. All it has are bits of various cutscenes (trailers) and 2 small maps to show off the new battle system.
That's right! New battle system. One of the things which defines the FF series has been overhauled. Are the changes good or bad? Is any of these changes original? Form your own opinions based on the following information before I give you mine, kay?
1. Adventure map
Gone are the static/scrolling backgrounds. The adventure maps are now 3D with a rotatable camera view. What game does this remind me of? .Hack (the first one as I've not seen the others). Not to say I'm comparing the graphics to .Hack, only the concept.
2. Wandering monsters
Wandering monsters move about the adventure map like in Star Ocean: Til the End of Time. You can see where the enemies are and attempt to avoid them if you wish. Also, the enemies seem to respawn after a while.
3. No transition between adventure map and battle sequence
Battles occur on the adventure map itself like in .Hack. Each, wandering monster you see in the adventure map is exactly that. One monster. So, unless there are two or more monsters walking around close to each other, you'll only have to contend with one at one time. Does this mean you can cause more damage if you flank the monster with one character? I don't know.
4. Real time battle
FFXII is still not a button masher. Most FF games, with the exception of FFX, make use of the ATB. This feature is still present. When the ATB meter is full, your character acts. Unlike previous FF games, everyone moves at the same time (real time). This removes complaints about the stupidity of 'Rikku is casting a spell so noone else can move until she finishes'. Now everyone can act simultaneously. If you time it right, it's possible for all 3 characters to land an attack at the same time. I believe this causes bonus damage (combo). However, it's possible to sit back and relax during battles. Just choose the attack command and your character will automatically attack, wait for the ATB to charge, attack, rinse and repeat. Same with spells. Choose Fira, and the character charges ATB, casts Fira, charges, casts, rinse and repeat. Simplifies things, doesn't it?
5. AI for party members
Like in Star Ocean and .Hack, there is an AI controlling your party members. You will select one character as your 'leader' and you maintain direct control at all times. This 'leader' can be changed at any time, even in the middle of a battle. You may issue specific orders to other party members, asking a person to cast Flare, or Cure, or attack or whatever. However, after the action is performed, the AI will decide whether or not to repeat the action or do something else. If you don't issue orders, the AI will do whatever it feels the particular character does best. Attack, cast black magic, whatever. How dumb is the AI? Does it waste MP unnecessarily (one reason I hate Star Ocean)? Fact is I do not know.
6. Menu pause or active time
With the previous ATB FF games, in the options screen we are allowed to choose whether or not battles are paused while we're in the menus choosing whether or not to attack, or which spell to cast, or which item to use etc. This feature should still be present in FFXII.
Conclusion:
Doesn't seem like anything fantastically original here, right? The switch to real time battles is really to be expected. Removing transition sequences between adventuring and battle is a definite plus in my book. I feel trepidation regarding the AI. When I'm allowed to control all characters in a party, I develope a feel for them as to what they can and can not do. The inclusion of AI makes things more... impersonal. And if the AI is dumb, I get this 'do whatever you like but don't expect me to save your ass' attitude. A definite turnoff. As for the way the battles have been so 'automated', might it be boring after a short while? It seems possible. Especially if the party is overleveled. Even if the party is not, the AI will take care of all your healing needs as long as it doesn't run out of MP.
PS:
Something just occurred to me. Where the hell is the Limit Break and Overdrive? Is that triple slash move you just did it? If so, it's kinda lame.

I've read somewere that you can remove gambits (don't know what it is) in the menu and you can switch back to old school turn based FF fights. Is this true?

You can switch off gambits for specific individuals. I don't know what gambits are either. What does old school turn based mean? I've mentioned before that, except for FFX, FF games use the ATB system. This is still used ini FFXII

I've played all the Final Fantasy games from VII to X-2. I only beat VII though, because the rest I was just borrowing temporarily from a friend. I love them all, but my favorite is FFVII. Even though everyone looks like blocks, the fmv's are done very well, and the storyline is great. I also like that it's the most obscene of the FF games. It curses more and has more sexual content. That doesn't make a game, but it is ammusing instead of just fighting all the time getting to see Cloud dress as a woman, so he can get Tifa off of the pimp. It was also fun getting to play as Tifa and bitch slap Scarlet (think that's her name). I also loved the soundtrack. I have it on cd. Overall, it was the best game I ever played.

@cranston: My bad, I mixed things up, I was confused myself ^^
With old school I mean ATB and turn based gameplay.
You mean the gameplay isn't like Kingdom Hearts? I thought FF12 would have a more direct gameplay then the others..

Well, I kind of liked the KH gameplay... Sure it was random and chaotic... But sometimes I like random and chaotic. It was fun just button smashing and beating the crap outta things, lol.
So anyway, about FF... Can someone remind me when XII is coming out? It'll be on the PS2 right? I don't even know when the PS3 is coming out. I'm so behind the times

FFXII will be out March (JP version), English one 3 months after that. As for the fighting, it's definitely not a button masher like KH. Actually, compared with the normal FF games, the new system seems kind of boring... However, when the real thing comes out, perhaps more strategy'll be involved. The demo characters are probably overleveled. Maybe...
Edit: Gambit seems to be something which turns AI on and off. Still haven't found any limit breaks.

I need wings of discovery to limit break everyones HP
Anyone know where I can go to get some.
The great Malboro gives some out for a lot of gil and I also need only one more ultimate weapon which is Wakkas.
I dont think I found many people who enjoy playing blitzball.
I dont know I didnt mind it but after so long it got hard to enjoy cause of same old same old.
But than again it wasnt terrible either.

Nemisis is the hardest enemy you fight in final fantasy X in the Monster Arena.
Iv been told it can take over an hour to fight him even when you are fully loaded I suppose you could say.
Thats what I heard.
You need to capture 10 of every fiend in each area and defeat all the original, and the creation and species conquest monsters.
Than Nemisis is made and off you go.
Iv been told its the hardest enemy in the whole game.

Ahhh yes, I remember the collecting 10 of every fiend, that really sucks because you have to use special weapons and stuff. Anyways, when you finish it you're supposed to get some items... I don't know about nemesis,

Okay. I've never succeeded against any of the creations in the monster arena before. They always wipe out my party in one turn.

They're pretty easy if you got the ultimate weapons and Wakka's second or third overdrive.
Btw anyone seen the intro of KH2? I just saw this yesterday night and I was amazed. I can't wait anymore -_-
Nice song from Utada Hikaru again. The intro is a spoiler for the people who haven't finished the first obviously..
Edit: Found out the song's name: Passion from Utada Hikaru.
Interesting note about the game, it got a 39/40 from Famitsu. This promises a lot.

Thought this was a FF thread, not a Square Enix thread As for the ultimate weapons and Wakka's overdrive, that presumes I live long enough. I used to get hit for over 9999 HP damage. I gave up and went for Sin. Did the same on my 2nd and 3rd playthrough. Actually, I'm certain I finished this game more than 3 times. FFX is the best!
I replayed the demo last night. I didn't catch any upskirt shots so I don't know what fanservice they're referring to. I believe I've tried everything except letting my character get KO'd.
BAD NEWS! No more Ifrit, Shiva, etc! At least I don't think so. I summoned for the first time, and got some weird looking Esper called Beliarh (seems to be the Ifrit equivalent for this game). And it was weird looking. More importantly, what's FF without Shiva! Or Bahamut!
More bad news. Scrutinising cutscenes further, I realised that the princess of Ivalice, Ashe, also one of the PCs, looks kinda old. Meaning I don't think there are any hot chicks in the party this time around.

Wow.. That would have made things really interesting if their had been fanservice..
I mean you don't get fanservice, but there is the dating scene in FF7, and 8 totally plays at romance throughout.. Its clearer towards the end.. But yeah.. wow.. fanservice might have made it really interesting.. LoL

Well FFX-2 had some sort of fanservice but it ruined the game a bit. It felt out of place imo. I'd rather have no fanservice if it destroys the game.

I won't believe anything anymore until I see it on the shelf, because they have been delaying that game for at least a year now. The videogame store told me one day when I tried to reserve it that it wasn't coming out. I even heard that rumor in a magazine. But then there's the demos, and I went to the store again, and they said I could reserve it, but like I said, I don't think there's rock solid information on the release date.
I still didn't see Advent Children yet either. Is that out yet? That was also supposed to be released a long time ago, but I don't see it in stores. Who knows though, because the stores by me don't usually sell anime or stuff like that.

Advent Children has been out for a LONG time now, but not in the US market to my knowledge. I think it was around halloween that it came out in Japan? Maybe it was a little before then ...

The DVD is released in Japan right now, so I think after a month or two.

You do know that Advents' Children is a movie and not a game right? (Just checking.) I usually don't keep up with release dates. Last I checked, FFXII will be released in March (JP). English version in June.
Fan service in FFX-2? You mean the Sailormoon transformation sequence? Boring!

Yeah, I was talking about the movie. There's no videogame for Advent Children. It would be cool if there was though for the PS3 or something. There is a thing of FFVII for PS3, but it's not a game, it's just to show how great the graphics are or something on the PS3.

The link doesnt work for some reason. It just leads to a site that tells you to yell furiously at the person who posted the link because it doesnt lead to the intended target. Of course i wont do that.

That's strange, it should immediately open a video download. I checked it now and it still works fine.

My favorite must be FF7, clearly the best story and character's like
sephiroth, Cloud and other very intressting char's.
This game is close to heart, first time i saw it on PS ( my brother
borrowed a PS and FF7 and other game's ) i must say that i did
thought it was funny just watching him play the game :O

Hey! There will be a new FF7 game! "Final Fantasy VII- Before Crisis" is the title.... As far as I know it's about the past of FF7. But the main character is not Cloud but I'm not sure whether it's Sephiroth or Zack with their companions the "the Turks". I think their enemy their is the Lifestream itself. They say it will be release sometime in March or April the same time were "The Dirge of Cerberus"(About Vincent of FF7) will be released. As far as I know it is a PS2 game. But maybe the Square enix will delay it because of the release of PS3. I hope that I will enjoy that game as I enjoy playing my most favorite game that is FF7.
