Sure, nice graphics, and the scene with those fireflies in the bayou were stunning. Turned out to be quite like a musical, only animated. Are all Disney movies like that? I really don't watch enough of them to be able to compare, but this one really made me think of those musicals where almost every 5 minutes they all break into a song and dance routine.
Many many Disney movies are like that.

Watched 2 movies today. Both were good, a definite improvement from last time and a great birthday overall.
1. Avatar in 3D: This was NOT made for 3D, that's for sure. But the movie was much better than the trailers made me think it would be. It definitely shows the 12 years of effort put into it. I truly felt that I was in a whole different world with a whole new culture. I've taken an anthropology class, so I know some aspects of cultures to look for, and I just couldn't believe the detail that went into this: unique language, class system, religion, combat system, etc. Simply breathtaking and better than expected. The women were awesome too. My favorite of the night and I definitely recommend others see it (3D or not is your pick).
2. Everybody's Fine: Very realistic, sad-happy movie. Robert De Niro has the old guy down pat. Maybe because he is one. xD

I saw Avatar in 3D last night at a cinema.....it truly is the most expected movie of the year 2009.....great story-line....awsome effects and wicked 3D
I for one would recomend everyone to see it 3D.....i mean it's worth to see it even without 3D but i prefer it with it.
Anyway.....the point is it's a good movie with or without 3D and it's worth seeing it

I actually really want to see Avatar on the note of its anthropological stances and visuals. Seems to be very interesting from all the talk I've heard about it.
I finally saw Disney's The Princess and the Frog - it was cute. I think some of the songs went out one ear and came through the other, but the story and characters were very cute. The animation was quite breathtaking.
I think if you don't expect it to stray too far from the Disney formula, it's very consistent and enjoyable.
I also saw New Moon and 2012 a while ago. 2012 I thought was fine - very visual heavy, but very guiltly admitted, it gave me a good reason to see John Cusack in a movie for the first time in a while. Story was okay, a bit grandiose, but okay. I'm used to seeing movies like that (including the Day After Tomorrow".
New Moon was a bit of a pain to get through in itself - I thought it was just okay overall. I don't know whether to say it was worse or better than the first movie.

Well, very typicalof Disney I must say.
Aoi-chan might want to go watch Sherlock Holmes over the weekend. So there's a chance I might go watch it with her. I looked it up a bit on wiki. I used to think Watson was the kind of rolly-polly, chummy, couch-potato-type of person. Didn't realize that he was actually a military doctor, a manof action I would say. This makes it interesting I guess.

^That Sherlock Holmes movie is like on steroids of something. I don't ever recall Sherlock and Watson knowing combat and having to fight off villains. It's Hollywood pumping in the action to get more viewers. That doesn't mean I'm not going to watch it. Jude Law and Rachel McAdams (and I guess Robert Downey Jr.) FTW! (Gotta love those A-list actors )

I totally agree. Book wise, obviously the first book was the best. It was the most entertaining and I found the second one the most boring of the set (and thus it gets the most of my hate, because I wanted to read Twilight for harmless, mindless entertainment). But the movies were both trainwrecks. Painful to watch, but you have to finish it to get your money's worth and eye-candy's worth. I suppose... First movie was better because it had MOAR Carlisle! XDDD

i am fan of the novels, but i have a BAD feeling
if, i look at the trailer of this movie, it will NOT be faithful to the shortstories at all
but yeah, watson IS quite the rolly polly if i can remember...he's a veteran of war, who was put out of action because Quote: of a shot to the leg
but i have a feeling they'll blow thigns out of proportion :(
Shiru (#135861) wrote: I don't ever recall Sherlock and Watson knowing combat and having to fight off villains.
actually, Sherlock Holmes frequents underground boxing fights...
the martial extent of watson though, goes as far as a pistol in his pocket
then they suddenly gave him a japanese wrestling style, to explain why he came back from the dead (fans wanted a sequel)
which is pretty much the only time sherlock actually fights someone
er...i'm going to stop writing before i throw up lol

So the original Watson is indeed rolly polly and has grown fat because he's been out of action for a long time? Yeah, a vet with an injured leg can't be so athletic.
Oh well, it is Hollow Wood.

Awwwww.... Our cinema still lacks 3D, although it's coming soon. Too bad I had to see Avatar without. Even then, Avatar was definitely one of the best movies I've ever seen, so if we have 3D when it's still running, I'll be the first standing at the doors to watch it again.
Hehe, fun fact: The first I thought when the movie was (unfortunately) finished was; "I also wanna be blue, tall and run through the forest of Pandora, why can't I get my own avatar? Awww..."

I thought the same.
SPOILER Quote: I felt it was a shame that they were closing down the lab. I wanted Norm to get his avatar back and then go to Eywa to get himself permanently in that form. And then I wanted more humans to be accepted onto Pandora for getting changed into Blue People, because I wanted to be one too. xD The only thing I kinda found implausible was how the companies gave up on mining Pandora. I don't think it's possible given how tenacious and greedy our kind can be.

Just came back from seeing Avatar in IMAX 3D.
The story was pretty much Dances with Wolves, but the CGI was great. unfortunately, I had terrible seats, so I wasn't able to fully enjoy the movie. I'm going to see it again in regular 3D so I can watch it, hopefully in a better seat without having to hurt my neck. I'm also probably going to get it on Blu-ray, since it's just one of those technical feats that demands that you put it to test out your home theatre with.

I watched:
1. Sherlock Holmes: It was a pretty good movie. Deep mystery, yet pretty funny too. Jude Law made for a pretty hot Watson. xD And Rachel McAdams was spectacular. I didn't know she had such an awesome inner b*tch that she let out for this role. The problem was, there were points in the movie even I didn't follow because Robert Downey Jr. was speaking too fast. I think this movie would have been great with subtitles, where I could freeze the movie whenever Downey Jr. was going on with his deductions and stuff. That's kind of sad now that I think about it. English subtitles for an English movie. xDDD
2. It's Complicated: I think I agree with a review I saw for this movie. It's not that complicated. It was clear from the start who she should end up with, and I'm not spoiling who that is. Poor Meryl, you could tell she was getting old. She looks much older from when I saw her last in Mamma Mia! Alec Baldwin played his role to a T, but then again, I think the role was very similar to his original personality. It was the funniest movie of the night for sure though. I absolutely LOVED John Krasinski. He was awesome. I would recommend this movie.
3. Invictus: Very slow and boring in the beginning. I don't think I knew what the point of the movie was until maybe towards the middle, when Mandela began to take more interest in Rugby. The second half was absolutely suspenseful and wonderful. Morgan Freeman has a very distinctive air about him that he seems to bring into all his roles, so I didn't really see Mandela. I saw Morgan Freeman pretending to be Mandela. Matt Damon did his part adequately. Maybe a little forgettably. Overall, I'd say it's an OK movie.

I just rewatched the Matrix trilogy today. Really good stuff, as always. I love that moment when they're running in the market and the Agents shoot and hit those watermelons. You can definitely see the Ghost in the Shell inspiration there.

Rather than wait another 2 or 3 months or more for the official English release, I downloaded and watched the Swedish versions of the first 2 Milennium movies developed from Stieg Larsson's books. The books were amongst the best I'd read last year so though the films would be worth a watch. Though they missed out a lot of the side plots they stuck to the basic premise of the books and the cast was pretty good so overall an enjoyable experience.
Still waiting for the paperback version of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest to get released and I don't think the film is available as yet either.

Just finished watching Inglourious Bastards and what a brilliant film!
Up untill near the end I thought it was an alright film nothing special, but at the end it became Tarantino at his best and it was amazing. Though I found myself confused at the begining, as I would have sacraficed myself to kill that SS colonel where as no one else seemed to they just seemed to cry and let him continue to kill. So that being said I had no problem with the "bastards" killing as many SS as they could regardless of weather they were high ranking or had surrendered, and would have had no problem with them killing Nazi officials in the most grusome of ways, but I could not hold with them killing NCO'S and lower that surrendered to them.
Cool soundtrack aswell.

Just watched:
1) Valentine's Day: Lots of A-listers made for some great acting. It wasn't spectacular, but it was a pretty good movie. Some of it was predictable and there were some small twists (I wish they hadn't given one of the biggest twist away in the trailer ).
2) Edge of Darkness: Boy, Mel Gibson is old. I was expecting this movie to be another Taken, only not as good because let's face it, Liam Neeson is way hotter and cooler than Mel Gibson is. It provided a surprising show of depth. It was a bit disjointed and rushed at parts, but it was a solid story. It wasn't very fresh, or unpredictable, but it had its moments.

Those are actually two movies I really want to see when I have the chance - thanks for sharing your opinions on them, Shiru.
I had the impression that Valentine's Day was a predictable, but feel-good movie on some measures. If it's that, then I know I can probably take some friends out to see it.
And I love Liam Neeson as an actor. Have for quite some time.

Apparently the major problem people have with Valentine's Day is that it's just a cheesy remake of Love, Actually. I haven't seen Love, Actually, so I can't say whether Valentine's Day is better or worse. It was definitely a feel-good movie though.

I just watched Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief last week. On the whole, I guess it was an ok movie, cool special effects and stuff. The main character was kind of annoying, and very unlike the main character in the book. They could have at least found someone who looked the right age to be the main chracter. He's supposed to be 12!! But he looks like he's at least 18.
The biggest impression I had of the film was that they shouldn't have bothered to name it after the book because the only things that were the same were the character names and about 80% of the general idea. Even the personalities of the characters were different.

I've recently watched Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. A lot of things were weird in the movie.

Knowing the novel's story after watching the movie, courtesy of my bookworm younger sister, I feel that they should have followed the book more which will give depth to the reason of Luke's stealing the thunderbolt.
I rewatched The Blind Side. I loved it when I watched the movie in the cinema, and I still love it now. It's weird seeing Sandra Bullock blonde but I really like her movies. I haven't watched any disappointing Sandra Bullock movies yet.

Personally, I didn't like this one compared to the last one, but I'm a vamp. lover... particularly a Carlisle Cullen lover... XD

I watched 3 movies yesterday and all of them were surprisingly good.
1) Alice in Wonderland: I was like Quote: WTF is going on, this is nothing like the original story. I figured out the twist pretty quickly halfway through the movie, so it was pretty predictable. I love how Burton remained true to mathematician aspect of the book, and I love how it explored the character of the Maddhatter. And the red queen with the big head and other deformities was genius. I just don't really get how Alice went from pretty girl about to get married, to warrior slaying the Jabberwocky, and then to visionary businesswoman.
Overall, It had great visuals and a solid story. 2nd best of the night for me. Sooooo many costume changes.
2) She's Out of My League: I wanted to watch The Ghost Writer instead of this one, so my expectations were pretty low. It was better than I expected, of course. It was very funny, and it had good message, but it was pretty predictable. It is the worst of the night for me, but not by far. This was just one of those nights where I picked 3 great movies. My little bro was traumatized by this movie though, and for good reason.
3) Shutter Island: Best of the night, hands down. I so did not expect the twist. I was expecting this to be scary, so the trailer was misleading, but it was well worth the watch. Definitely gets you thinking, and I like movies like that. Acting was awesome from Leonardo DiCaprio, as usual.

I watched last night Ninja Assassin ....HOT!!!! It was the sexiest movie I watched in looooong while, that the whole dialog was english. I swear it was fan service when they where showing all those scenes of Rain training. *My parents were so close to figuring my real reason behind wanting this movie...I couldn't stop squealing* >.<
Rain oppa was soooo damn sexy as Raizo, I remember when he was training and stuff for the movie it was soo funny (he got down to having 0% body fat!!!) and young Raizo (shaved one) my sexy joon oppa played him!!! lol he was still hot!! Damn...Naiome Harris was soo lucky to have been with Rain T___T
It was sexiest and the most bloodiest movie too, I after 5mins into the movie I had to get my 6 year old sis out of the room, and put her to sleep before we could continue it. =.=''

LOL. I watched that movie too because my bro wanted to actually. I believe I described as being so ridiculously fake that it's hard to take seriously, even if there was a plot (though predictable).

So, I saw Hot Tub Time Machine
It will give you exactly what you expect, a hot tub; that also functions as a time machine.

Harry Brown . Beautiful pictures, neatly written scenario, great acting, and the most important; it's realistic revenge movie.
Everyone tired of the BS in the late action movies should immediately watch this one. It gets my personal seal of approval.

I just watched Jesus Camp.
Seriosuly distrubing shit - those camps are just 2-3 steps away from Talibanization. I really wish they make a part two of this movie in 2014 to show the viewers just what these (brainwashed?) preteens are doing 10 years from the date of the movie.

I watched Julie and Julia yesterday b/c my friend lent it to me. It was a very good movie. It made me so hungry and it made me want to make the recipes in Julia Childs' cookbook. :3

Watched Clash of the Titans in 3D.. I must say that while it was a good adventure / action movie I felt it could have done with a bit more story focus. Well and the 3D wasn't worth much at all.

Just watched The Empress and The Warriors and it was brilliant. You sat down thinking you were watching one genre of film but then it turned into another, in a really good way. Lots of what I really wanted to see and was expecting to see and then something I really wasn't expecting to watch and didn't watch the film for but I was hooked and loving it before I realised the genre had changed. Another brilliant film from China, Hollywood could realy learn something.

I watched:
1) How to Train your Dragon: EXCELLENT movie. I only wish I could've seen this in 3D. My bro has watched it 3 times. Great story, a little predictable, but solid overall. Great voice-acting, and loved the humor. The depth of the story and the narration was awesome. Toothless is so cute! <3 Totally recommended and best of the night for me.
2) Date Night: Very funny movie. I liked the plot, it was real and yet preposterous at the same time. Unpredictable too, which was a plus. I would say the movie was ok. I didn't really feel like Steve Carell and Tina Fey were a couple, but they made good friends.
3) Bounty Hunter: Meh. It was not that good. Plot was predictable. Gerard Butler's character doesn't learn anything, which I had hoped he would. They're both so old now. And it's not that funny, unfortunately.

The Manchurian Candidate - The 1962 version. My take on the movie is the same as my take on Pyscho. At the time when this film was made, this movie would have been very original and would have shocked the pants off all the movie goers. But now in 2010? Not that much. Still, I appreciate that the movie was very well made.
Next up... The Cove.

I just watched One Missed Call and I have to say it is the scariest film I have ever seen. I honestly called out for my mum at one point. It was scary in every area psycologicoly, suprise, gore. I have seen a lot of Japanese horror and this it at the top, this proves why Japan is at the hight of horror film making. It also had the two main things I love about Japanese horror, no music and something being there (e.g. Hand) for the entire scene but you don't notice it untill they want you to.
