| Repetitive, with outdated graphics, combining PG rated "ecchi" with mystery and adventure and comedy and doing none of it right. But someone did something amazing, even though I can't figure out what. Because at the end of a long day City Hunter can be exactly what the doctor ordered. Here is a guy so cool...but no he isn't. The "national perverted shame of Japan" stumbles around his female clients like an idiot, just to make all the right moves when push comes to shove. And he does that again and again and again....and it stays entertaining to the very last episode. Like I said "Amazing". The graphics are somewhat outdated, but the sound is good. Nice voice acting and fitting tunes. (If you want City Hunter with todays killer graphics and sounds you'll have to check out Angel Heart). If doing the same thing over and over again for more than 120 episodes would lead to character depth, Ryou and his friends would be the pacific ocean. While not deep they remain fun to watch throughout all the episodes. And ever since Angel Heart came out in 2005 I'm not complaining about any ending.

| city hunter is really cool anime. though it is very old and the story is a bit of a downer, i still enjoyed it. especially ryo saeba is great. his love for all women and clumsy behaviour is hilarious to watch. overall a simple anime with a lot to laugh, one likeable character and sometimes intriguing missions.
ENJOYMENT
when watching one episode a week very funny and enjoyable but the similar acting in each episode does not allow to enjoy it over more than 4 eps in a row.

| A nice anime, full with funny moments. Animation is not bad, nothing special but good, especially for an anime this old. Sound is good, music and speech is well done. The only let down is the story, its more about random "missions" more than a true plot, but still the characters and their personalities are very well done, which makes it a very enjoyable anime. Once seen tho, its not worth to rewatch, since you would already know all the jokes and there is no apparent plot to try to understand better than the previous time.

| Based on one of my favorite manga series I was excited to view the animation. Err...maybe a little TOO excited because the anime didn't live up to the manga in any which way or form. I know this is one of those cases where reading the manga first ruins the anime. City Hunter the anime series is like a watered-down version of the manga. Many of the same stories are in the anime but hacked up badly to fit into the 20 min. odd episodes. Plus Ryo Saeba my favorite lecherous hero just isn't as lecherous as he SHOULD be!
But...trying to view this from the perspective of someone who isn't familiar with the City Hunter series the show isn't so horrible you'll be reaching for the power button. But at times you may want to close your eyes and take a nap through some of the episodes. Especially if you're viewing the episodes straight through because the stories get pretty repetitive.
If you're looking for lecherous comedy entertainment look no further. Or if you just want the novelty of seeing your favorite characters animated (like me) go ahead and watch it. But if you're looking for an intriguing storyline with impressive animation and music...this is not it.

| As much as I loved almost every bit of this show, the ending was a huge letdown. Closing City Hunter with a few mediocre-at-best filler episodes just doesn't cut it, especially after the great conclusions of the first 3 seasons. Not only did it not feel satisfactory, it left me with a bitter taste that overshadowed my enjoyment of the rest of the show. I still can't believe how badly they screwed it up. But I'll set that aside so I can evaluate the bulk of City Hunter.
Up to the end of season 4 the show never ceased to entertain and before I realized I had become quite addicted to it. It definitely wasn't story driven, but the tons of filler rarely felt burdensome and once in a while there were wonderful character moments that were more than enough to keep me in love with the show and wanting for more.
The 80s music and atmosphere have a great charm and add a lot to the show. The first ending song ("Get Wild"), along with a few others are among the best I've heard in any anime. It's a rarity that I listen to an ED at the end of each and every episode. The music stays pretty good throughout the next seasons, even if none of the ops and eds are quite as nice as the first ones.
As I mentioned above, probably the main asset of City Hunter are the characters and their comic interactions. Ryo and Kaori quickly became two of my favorites and most of the side characters are also great. Also, I really have to give it to the creators of the show for having different chicks in almost every episode, but still managing to keep them interesting.
The visuals are great for an 80s show. It's amazing that City Hunter's makers managed to keep animation consistent throughout almost all of the 140 episodes, while never stretching them to what we're used to seeing in quite a few recent long running shows.
Things in the sound department were also nice, especially the great voice overs. Much of Ryo and Kaori's appeal was due to the great acting.
All being said, this show really left me hurting. Even the movies don't add anything so I guess the only thing I can do is get my hands on the manga... or wait for the recently announced anime adaptation of the City Hunter spin-off - Angel Heart.

| a seemingly incompetent perverted detective/bodyguard who is a nice guy deep down and actually a real pro at his job. that about sums it up.
I enjoy all the funny hentai-ish bits in this film. I like to kick back at the end of a long day and laugh at the main character always getting busted for stealing underwear etc. And somehow, they always come up with new ways to make his repetitive hentai habits funny all the time.
however, each episode gets pretty predictable after a while. it's a typical detective show from the 80s. if you ask me, it's worthwhile just for the comedy and if you ignore the useless action/drama.

| One of my favorite animes. It doesn't have really have an ongoing plot but it works here. The animation very good for being an anime from the 80s. It is very funny and it has a lot of good action scenes. My only complaint is the ending. It didnt have a feeling of closure. The last episode could have easily came 50 episodes before that.

| One of the greatest classic animes I've ever seen besides the Mobile Suit Gundam series and Miyazaki films. Although the animation isn't as great as the anime I see today, the story, along with the humor, gives this show the shine that puts it top of all other animes. Each episode (or episodes for the second season) contains its own story and even though the story follows a certain pattern, the ideas and cast of characters changes so that it never gets old.
I HIGHLY recommend this anime to just about anyone. You cannot have seen the best anime ever until you see this.
And one last thing....RYO IS THE MAN....I love his .357 Python, and his perverted antics....

| Well, city hunter really ROCKS !!!
This anime is just great in all, the main hero is the coolest guy in the world, being sometimes a real pervert or being the most professional detective or mercenary taking care of the innocent people. You'll enjoy knowing all about his past through all the episodes and the movies.
The music is also terrific (foots steps lalalala :D ), every episode is filled with a really interesting story (sometimes longing on several episodes) and you really enjoy the 140 episodes.

| this show... I don't know how they pulled it off, but, this has to be THE most repetetive show I have ever seen and yet... somehow the creators manage to never let it become boring.
One of the funniest stories ever, but I've heard the manga is even better (but hey, those guys allways say that :p)
Ryo saeba is probably one of the best most original but most perverted anime-characters ever.
It was so nice to see throughout the series that no matter how big of a pervert he was, the only one he could ever really love was Kaori...
it was allways great to see the contrast between perverted Ryo <> serious Ryo. you would never believe that they are one and the same person.
the sound is a definate 10... a good anime needs good music, this anime had lots of it.
Also, there are the "main" story episodes episodes (episodes that didn't just resolve around the usual theme but were about the characters), they usually had special music used just for that episode, like the song "without you", which are usually very emotional and go well with the theme of the series.
This was one of my childhood favorites :)

| The manga may be better, the anime serie is just great too. Characters like Ryo and Umibozu make this anime a real good enjoyment. The story may seem repetitive at some points, but a good combination of humor, action and pretty girls ^_^ cant just make us hate this anime.
