| This movie was ok, but even if it used a formula similar to the TV show, I couldn't help but feel like something was lost.
It was just another City Hunter story and not among the best ones even by a long stretch. Watching it after the horrible non-ending of the TV series makes it even more of a disappointment since it doesn't add anything to the characters. We just get a load of the usual "Ryo goes mokkori/Kaori smashes him with the hammer". The writers could have at the very least come up with a few new jokes, but that wasn't in their job contract it seems...
The 80s charm is lost along the way. For starters, there's some pretty boring generic music that is no match for the great tunes in the TV show. The modernized cover of "Get Wild" during the ending credits don't help one bit. One can't get a very good feel of the city either, since during the whole 90 minute duration the movie concentrates on the "stellar" plot.
Speaking of plot, it's not like City Hunter ever had many true surprises, but this movie's predictability is way over the top. Everything from start to finish is so damn blatant that I could barely take it.
In terms of visuals, City Hunter looks better than the TV show, but isn't anything to write home about.
Overall I thought this movie was quite a let down. It was watchable, but I that's the best I can say about it.

| This was my favorite City Hunter movie/ova/special even though it was the english dub that I saw. The dub(now ive seen the sub) was really bad compared to the series and the other movies that I saw in japanese. It wasnt really horrible but the acting that I saw in the series was excellent. And they changed the names too. This movie was just as funny as the other movies but it is the plot that blows them all away. This is the only movie that I thought stacked up with tv series. The movie has all the great characters from the series and the action scenes are great. After watching the sub i like it more now.
