| I didn't like Queen Emeraldas all that much. I saw this before I had ever seen any of Capitan Harlock, thus I didn't really get it. It just bored me to death, the only reason why I sat through all for episodes was their was nothing else on tv. If you want to know more about this below average OVA read on.

| Queen Emeraldas ist mein erster Ausflug ins Harlock-Universum und trotz Mangel an Vorwissen habe ich diese OVA zu einem gewissen Grad sehr genossen. Es sind nur 2 Episoden, dennoch bieten sie inhaltlich genug Substanz um zu unterhalten. Die Story ist nicht unbedingt die größte Stärke dieser OVA, und ich denke man brauch schon ein paar Vorkenntnisse um Queen Emeraldas in dieser Kategorie mehr abgewinnen zu können, was aber durch recht coole Action und ansatzweise tollen Raumschiff-Battles wett gemacht wird. Die Charaktere haben es schwer in einer so kurzen Zeitspanne überzeugend rüber zu kommen, haben bei mir jedoch einen ziemlich positiven Eindruck hinterlassen. Besonders Emeraldas hat mir sehr gefallen. Man erfährt nicht unbedingt viel über sie aber sie besitzt dieses gewisse Charisma was einen gefangen nimmt und mitreisst, zumindest bei mir war das der Fall. Der männliche Hauptcharakter Hiroshi ist mehr so der typische draufgängerische kleine Junge mit dem starken Willen der in keiner Situation klein bei gibt, ich hab in ganz gut leiden können aber gegen Emeraldas macht er keinen Stich ;) Das Ende hat mir auch gut gefallen, es hat zwar einen eher "offenen Charakter" stellt aber dennoch zufrieden. Insgesamt muss ich sagen das diese OVA insgesamt sehr unterhaltsam war und bei mir die Lust auf mehr geweckt hat. Ich denke mal es versteht sich von selbst, das man Queen Emeraldas jedem Fan von Leiji Matsumotos Werken ans Herz legen kann und selbst wenn man nicht dazu gehört und noch nie etwas aus dem Harlock-Universum zu Gesicht bekommen hat ist diese OVA eine gute Gelegenheit mal reinzuschnuppern.

| This outside work, based off characters in Mastumoto Leiji's Harlock series (Harlock Saga, Arcadia of my Youth, Space Pirate Captain Harlock OVA, and Maetel Legend to name a few) is brief, mesmerizing, and to the point. A two-episode OVA based off Matsumoto's popular manga, Queen Emeraldas does little to excite the viewer, yet contains a decent enough mixture of character and storyline to keep one entertained. Although previous knowledge of Matsumoto's other series, such as Star Blazers, Galaxy Express 999, and the above mentioned, will certainly make the experience much more enjoyable, it does fairly well as a stand-alone work.

| There were 4 eps on the dvd I got.
I am a big Captain Harlock aka Albator (1978) fan, so this fed my addiction well. Some of the Harlock background is explained, better than in the movie Youth in Arcadia, I think.
Emeraldas got a little on my nerves by repeating that she was herself, but she's all cool otherwise. A great archetype!
