| OH MY GOD!!!IT'S DAIGUARD!!!!!!
What can i say? story line is great. The pilots are actually 3 ordinary officer workers suddenly having in the situation that they have to pilot the company's main attraction, a machine that was until then mainly used attracting customers, that is daiguard..
Characters in this anime are cute and lovelable, especially the three pilots. The storyline is that they have to protect the people of japan from the hetereodyne using daiguard, but things are always not as easy as it seems. Plenty of robot action and humour along the way.. to find out, watch it yourself...

| This anime series is decent however, many time goes down to infantile plots. I like the way the mecha issues are handle; there are more believable than other mecha series. One major flaw here is that this anime have little bit of romance when everything is set for it (common! it is an office with young people). I mean sometimes you believe that a romance plot going to start and then goes to the oblivion. The characters are likable but not that much. The main character gets annoying many times.
Music is a little average. Opening Song is decent, ending song great.

| Everything about this series is average. Average, average, average! It was an interesting take on the whole Big Robot genre but somehow fails to make it interesting. None of the character designs are appealing and Dai-Guard isn't looking too hot either. The animation isn't anything special and fails to impress. I thought maybe the show would grow on me...but alas, I was barely able to finish it.
There's nothing much to see here. There's a lot of Robot anime's out there and this one is really not worth your time. Enjoy Big Robot anime? Watch shows like Evangelion and Big O.

| Well, I don't like the mecha genre much. It has to have a very good storyline so that I like it. No, that's not what happens with Dai Guard, not at all. In terms of plot, this anime is as cliche as it can get (in the mecha genre... oh wait, in the action genre as well). Yes. It's true... giant monsters and giant robots... surprise, surprise.
The only good part of the story is that, the giant robot, actually has technical problems, like any machine (it's not invencible like most giant robots), making it all more realistic.
I really can't think about any other positive aspects of this anime, besides the animation. As for the rest... it's a waste of time to watch it, really... bad story, annoying and silly characters and average sound.

| Ok first of all i want to say that i was surprised to see people compare this Dai-Guard "almost unknowned anime" with Evangelion "a legend among animes"... there is not one similarity between the two, exept the mecha genre that is common to maybe hunderds of animes.
First of all i found the animation to be quite good, and the sound was OK, but nothing special... and characters are decent, enjoyable but not deep as the "little wihny kids from Eva as some of you pointed out".
The story?... simplistic "monster of the week" kinda plot... we get one ball shaped like monster/natural disaster or whatever it's supose to be, and the great Mecha Hero who's gonna beat the Heterodyne, one episode after another and so on... the story is just to cycle and clyche and overall to predictable, and for me the story is more important then some stupid mecha fights.
-Isn't strange the fact that the main hero makes more damage to the city then the Heterodyne?? i though that he had to protect the city, not level it when fighting the monster... if he does the same damage that the heterodyne would have done just what's the point of fighting?
-And why do they need a robot with 2 legs and 2 arms to fight something that looks like a ball and is considered a natural disaster?? hey in Eva the Eva's were shaped like that for a good reason... but in stories like Gundam and Dai-Guard the human shape would be most innefective in battle...
Overall this is an anime for kids under 12 years old... with some mecha action, some comedy and birocracy, but with a really unoriginal and predictable story with no flavour in it... ain't worth watching.

| Dai-Guard is a somewhat different take on the monster-attacks-Japan-giant-robot-kills-
monster-and-saves-the-day story.
In Dai-Guard, we see the cost, the paperwork, the ridiculous bureaucracy that is bound to occur in such events. And there's the constant struggle between the company and the government -- that is, the army. The army wants all the glory, but must always save face...this seems to be the same goal of the corrupt company leaders...all at the expense of the civilians who are at the heart of Dai-Guard. Somehow, the giant robot doesn't respond well to anyone but Shunsuke Akagi, Ibuki Momoi, and Keiichiro Aoyama! Team Dai-Guard!
In between battles, the Dai-Guard pilots and their colleagues work more or less diligently at their more mundane office assignments. Oh, the joys of paperwork and the wonder that is public relations!
Although the plots may seem repetitive...A Heterodyne [huge, shapeless monsters that appear out of nowhere, causing earthquakes and destruction] attacks Tokyo, or some other city...Dai-Guard [the giant robot] gets permission [or not] and kicks the Heterodyne's sorry ass...we soon find out there's more to it than that. In a word: Characters. The characters are wonderful. Very realistic, true to life people and situations. Maybe it's because I've been working at a dull, boring, very bureaucratic office job for over a decade, Dai-Guard really hits home for me on a certain level.

| Well like a few people have already said, this is a kid's show.
But as a kiddy show it does succeed at that level. One of the most happy type animes I've seen in a while and to be honest much more appealing than sad stories during a post finals period
(Should you want to be depressed, go fail a test or something. Or better yet get fired from your job.).
A few of my fellow critics have pointed out that Evangelion is far better, and may have a point. So for those who are die hard fans of Eva and Gainax endings, watch at your own risk.
Besides, I never could really cheer for those 13-14 whiny kids in EVA or their overthetop and incomptent superiors. In Dai Gaurd, however, who doesn't want to cheer for John Q. Taxpayer, lest you be a parasite living off the sweat of their brows, and his group of clock watching middle class co-workers. Besides it's slightly more real in that the Board of Directors does screw the working man over.
So for kids and working class people with real jobs, who are considered "normal" this anime will work for you.
BTW The Heterodyne are similar to a natural disaster, or to dumb it down some more, kinda like having T-Rex run amok through Manhattan. Is it evil, no. Is it dangerous, yes.
-The Hour is Go
PS No respectable parent sould ever consider allowing their children (12 and under) to watch NGE.

| This is one of the worst animes I have ever seen. The characters are stupid, the music boring, the mechs are ugly and the ONLY good thing about it is the ending theme. Even if the 2 last episodes was ok they werent good enough to make up for how horrible it was in the beggining.
Koji Kabuto... I agree with you when you say it's for "real people" ... 6 year old kids are "real people". I didnt like eva very much but it's light years better then this shit!

| haha, well, KyoDemonEyes said bad imitation of eva and Koji Kabuto said dont compare it to eva..
i agree....
eva is for adults...
dai-guards is for 7-10 year old kids
the storyline is predictable, stupid, pointless... monster comes, they beat it... it doesnt seem to matter to the main characters if they destroy so much property.. as long as the monsters dont do it...
then no1 seems to care whether or not the army pilots are more qualified or not... just as long as the main characters are incharge... -_-;;
then it ends without any explaination for what the monsters are??? are they living creatures?? and more importantly... didnt anyone else besides me find it odd that it seems that the humans almost always launch the first attack... isnt the monster just defending itself??? arent the humans the "bad" guys...?
there is no enjoyment at all for me... but thats probably because i expected a storyline... if you (or you have some young siblings/cousins) like childish animes... its not that bad for you.. but for me, it was nothing but a waste of time...

| I just got finished watching the rest of this anime a couple of days ago, and man was it good! This is by far the best mecha anime that I have ever seen. The thing that I have to say I like most about it is that when the people piloting Dai Gaurd destroy public property their company has to pay for the damage. Don't you ever wonder who pays for the damage that super heroes make?
The characters in this anime are so enjoyable. And though Akagi is the main character, every episode isn't focused on him.
Throughout the anime almost all the episodes manage to have bit of humor in them. And though monstrous aliens appear in just about all of them it doesn't have the same storyline as Sailor Moon or any other anime of the like where it's basically: Kill the enemy and save the day! Anyway, the story was pretty good. I can't remember being bored with any episode except for one the first episode on the second DVD.
I preferred watching the dub version over the sub version because though the voices were good in Japanese, I found the English voices more enjoyable, as well as the English dialogue. So I recommend watching the dub first.

| Ok, after watching the whole Series, i want to ammend my review....
This series made me cry when i first saw it, YAY! a nice 70's style mecha show, but when i saw the zinc plating and stuff, i could nothing but hope to see Dai-Guard at it's full power, this series is enjoyable to the last line of the ending song...
They do explain what the monsters are, they are like living natural disasters, just like a typhoon, a tidal wave or whatever, and you know, when i said it shouldn't be compared to eva, it's easy, EVA is for poor wimpy depressive little kids, while this anime is for real people.

| This is one of the finest mecha animes I've seen
how can there be people as stupid as to compare this with evangelion
the best part is the comedy twist .. on how the burocracy afects a fight for justice the male lead, Shunsuke is just hilarius, he is such an heroic pilot... you'll get the feeling he didn't choose right his anime.
the voices are perfectly suited .. and the designs are awesome ..

| First of all, there are 26 episodes of Dai-Guard, not 13. Gravion would have been a much better anime if it had a story-arc like Dai-Guard.
