| Until I began watching this, I had no idea what it was. I figured it must be some extra, interesting stuff to go along with RahXephon, and since it was an OVA/Movie, it had to go along with the storyline. Being that RahXephon's story was the only thing that interested me, I had moderate expecations of something of substance...bad idea. It's basically a mixture of an alternate story/retelling of the series; had they picked one or the other, maybe I would have rated this higher -- the combination of the two really sucks.
What really annoyed me about the animation is that over half of the movie is probably ripped straight out of clips from the series. The new content, however, was a step up animation wise, so everything comes across rather messy and convoluted. In fact, the entire movie seems like a large fragmentation of clips put together by a few fans. Very lazy and very ineffective overall; not impressed.
More Quon and more Ayato's mother. Not only do you have to rewatch the same animation, you have to listen to their damned voices again, and they even have some new lines and scenes. There is literally no change from the series -- same voice acting, same background music, same ending track. If you liked those aspects of the series, you'll like them again here. Likewise, if you share my hatred, stay away before you seriously rethink putting a hammer to the sides of your head to squelch out the incessant "Ra-ra?" echoes.
The only part of this I would actually recommend watching is the opening scene. You are introduced to a lot more backstory to Ayato and Haruka (and it's only what, five minutes?) compared to the series, which makes their romance seem much less sudden and forced. Though I didn't care for young Haruka either, it makes Haruka as a whole much less annoying and stupid, which is a good thing. Problem is, the rest of the movie totally sucks, so it doesn't matter. Had they juxtaposed this opening scene over the series, RahXephon might have been much improved. Two wrongs don't make a right; in the end, they're both wrongs. RahXephon and its movie prove this.
Again, Haruka has a bit more (needed) characterization, but I don't get why. All of RahXephon's characterization (what little there was) is torn to shreds, as we are presented some cliche end of the world plot and suddenly we have weird scenes like the commander of TERRA becoming Bahbem's confidant. If anything, my overall impression of the characters went down, which was a pretty stunning feat, as everyone has been given reinvented roles and new personas but not new faces. It didn't work for Escaflowne's movie eight years before, I have no idea why they thought it'd work in 2003.
All in all, trash. Five minutes worth of substance at the beginning with tidbits of story elements mixed inbetween. It's sad, because much of this information should have been put in the actual series and would have made RahXephon a much better production. Regardless, five (possibly ten) minutes of substance out of one hundred and twenty doesn't make for a good way to spend your time, so stay away.
Discouraged.

| The TV series of RahXephon is one of the most beautiful and overall best animes of all time.
And that's how it should have stayed.
Because the movie does nothing but recap everything that happens in the series with a whole bunch of new scenes (one in particular involving Kamina and Haruka) that drastically change the original story from being absolutely beautiful, to being painfully marring and terrible.

| As someone who didn't enjoy the anime at all, I found this movie to be short enough to bare. It touches upon all the important parts of the story elements(which is arguably the best part of this anime). Furthermore, the beginning of this movie was exactly what should have been shown in the series earlier (instead of all that weird mystery who is related to who stuff in the anime). Then again, from my point of view, Rah Xephon the anime was essentially a failure. That said, this movie isn't exactly the same plot-wise as the anime. However, all the main things were essentially the same.
Overall, I don't really recommend watching this either - mostly due to the discontinuities and jumps between large story points. It doesn't make for a fluid and enjoyable watch and you don't get to know the characters at all. I think you'll have a more fun time reading wikipedia's page on the character lists. I suppose many who actually watched the anime complain about how a lot of things were left out, but if you never knew what was missing, how could you miss it? Sure there feels to be a lot of jumps and gaps (especially with different girls and living places), but oh well.
Rah Xephon, as a whole, does have some sort of charm in the originality of the story. So if you are curious about the Rah Xephon universe, but are like me and don't feel motivated to watch it to the end, try this out. At least you potentially only waste 2 hours instead of the 13 hours watching the series.

| i noticed most people criticized this movie to be a pointless summary of the series, but to me, it helped it smooth out the main point of the tv series.
Looking back at the series, as much as it was enjoyable it left me off the hook with some characters thrown in to make it more complex than it was supposed to be. One of the main themes was supposed to be time and love, and they didn't do such a great job with ayato and haruka's in my opinion. There was barely any trace of chemistry between them near the beginning (except a few times), ayato floats between different women, then when the end is near they act at random scenes as if they were a couple the whole time...
True, they left out some big scenes and made some characters useless compared to the tv series (quon for example), but all in all, it summarized what the series was supposed to be about.
Bottom line, I wish they made the series more focused to the theme like the movie somewhat did...it would have been something even more worthwhile

| I would advice only the hardcore Rahxephon fan to watch this. It was a movie full of repeated scenes and repeated dialogues, with occasional differences which resulted in an alternate storyline.
I am not suggesting that average fans or anyone who has seen the series will fail to enjoy this, but it’s unlikely. Sitting there watching what essentially felt like a lengthy recap episode was not fun at all. The occasional new (or alternative) scenes did not seem to, on the whole, spark too much interest in me.
I wonder why they actually made this movie. Movies naturally follow after a series, ironically in this case, the movie would have been better viewed prior to the series. This is firstly because of the boredom factor of watching repeated scenes form the series, but mostly due to the fact that it provides the audience with nice and firm preliminary knowledge of the world of Rahxephon.
The animation and sound was of the same quality as the Rahxephon series, story was arguably the same depending on individual tastes. I did mention in my review of the series that Rahxephon would have been (slightly) improved if it consisted of 13 episodes rather than 26. Was the movie better than the series because it was shorter? This depends on which one you viewed first. If you watched the movie before the series, I’d say the movie would have indeed been better than the series due to its length. Watched the other way round, it would be the movie that would be the worse of the two.
This presents a dilemma for rating this movie. I would go with my suggestion of watching this only if you are a big fan of the series, if not, I really would not touch this.

| Like the difference between the Manga and the anime series, the movie is an alternate reality.
This time, the prospective is from a girl name Shitou Haruka. Unlike the anime, it starts with their relationship. It was nice being able to see what their relationship was like before they were taken away, one of the reasons why I gave it the value points I did.
The ending also gave a nice touch how you are able to see another possibility of an ending relationship.
What this movie did was explain more of the RahXephon project, but, it lost points in the character developments. They were quick, and extremely hard to fallow without the anime as a reference.
All and all, this movie is a complement to an extraordinary series, and should not be watched without it.
There was one extra scene, though, that was not needed where two of the characters have sex. That somewhat destroyed the movie for me. (But it is easy to skip.)
In the end, this movie is nice if you need a quick RahXephon fix.
It is nice to get a lot of the good scenes from the series in a different prospective, if a quick amount of time.
it is to bad though, I wanted to see what happens After the series, not the series again.
But! The animation is fantastic! And so are the sounds and music!
One last comment: though it is a recap of the story, I do not sagest watching it without seeing the series. It is extremely confusing, and very fast paced.

| This will be short and sweet.
Formula for RahXephon the Movie:
Highlights of Anime
+
Some Changed Dialogue
+
Extra Scenes that Add A Bit to anime.
That's all. It was very dissapointing, as I was hoping something new to give me more attention to the series. Some of the extras were great, but only 10 minutes of them...

| Being a huge fan of the tv series, I was expecting to love this movie. That Didn't happen, in fact, I don't really like it at all. Trying to recap the tv series with a few new scenes and plot twists in an hour and a half is impossible. This movie proves it.

| It's impressive that they condensed most of the plot points of the 26 episodes series Rahxephon into a 2 hour movie. The extra scenes and variations from the series are interesting, but the omission of people and events seen in the series makes the movie seem rushed and choppy.

| I had a big problem with this movie. It was the middle part of the movie. The first 1/3 of the movie had great potential to add to the whole series, and story, also the last 1/3, but it failed greatly by making this movie a recap and confusing us even more than we need to. Of course the music, the characters, the animation was perfect, but the story was absolute garbage, ruined because of the recaps. Such potential thrown down the drain, through the garbage disposal, wasting away my time to enjoy one of my favorite animes while drinking sake, only to be pissed off because they cant work with the beginning and ending, oh well, they suck.

| If you already watch the TV series then you don't need this one. This is like a review of the TV version at a differnt ending. Since they put very characters and detail in limited time, they cancel out some of the people and add a new theme and such. Most of scenes are used in the movies, only a bit of part that changed. Even though the art blend well(with the old one) the story is not. The ending is not plan well as the first one. If you havn't watch the TV series.. this one will not make any sense, and even you watch the first one this one will only bored you. So... Rahxepon is not worth watching at all, if you really rah's fan then you might want collected it(keep your seal on, so your dvd will be in mint condition)not watch it.

| This movie at first seems like an overall recap of the series. And in general it is, but there are certain plot points that are different between the movie and the series, so I can't say that the movie explains further what the series has started. For me, it altered the story too much, and so I didn't like the movie as much. The small changes were so slight that it didn't feel like any new material, but then again because of these changes I felt a little upset they weren't following the original premise. Come on, if you're going to make a change, might as well make it big.
I liked the original series sooo much better. The ending was not as good as the original either, I don't think. The series left you with a feeling of closure, the ending of the movie left me with, "what the ....?!". Maybe it's because i just don't get it though....
For first time viewers of rahxephon, I would have to say don't watch this unless you've watched the series. The movie will seem too fast paced and weird.

| The main character is so unrealistic, he gets attacked by aliens in the subway and then saved by ninja girl, splatted with blue blood, and afterwards says 'ok thanks, see ya' and doesn't even ask what the hells going on or act even a little surprised. Or when he gets pulled into another diminsion and afterwards he seems more surprised at the bad coffee than warping space-time. Every scene attempts to make you feel a certain way, they jerk you around from sadness to happy to rage, which makes me feel like a cow being herded. Didn't like this one at all.

| It doesn't really do anything to enhance the TV series greatly. Nor would I call it a must watch, even for Rah fans.
Well, the only benefit I gathered from this movie was a little more depth to the characters. It is definitely a clip show with maybe 15 minutes of the 2 hour movie was new footage.

| I watched the TV series and really enjoyed (see my straight 10 ratings for the series). This movie is not bad, but is nothing more than a recap of the series with some changes to the storyline. Therefore, the story rating is N/A.
The opening of the movie is wonderful, it did supplement the series nicely by providing the backstory of the young lovers Ayato and Haruka. From that moment on, the rest of the movie is nothing more than a recap comprised with some altered scenes.
Viewers should notice that in order to squeeze the entire series into 2 hours, many of the character developments and important plots from the series have been left out. If you have not watched the seires, some scenes from the series may not have as much impact on you, like the death of Hiroko.
Some of the important characters from the series (Quon and Dr. Itsuki comes to mind) are changed drastically for the worse, indeed, their existence in the movie becomes rather pointless. Mishima (Istorli) has been completely removed as well, so is Ayato's painting. Ayato supposedly had his memories erased in the seires, but here he has memories of Haruka from the past. Last but not least, the "tune the world" theme was altered as well, making the final battle quite confusing as well as meaningless.
The ending is altered too, it's good and could fit in the series, but is far less dramatic than the series' ending imo. I love the series' ending very much, the romantic story of Ayato and Haruka came to a full circle at the end.
My conclusion is that instead of seeing this movie as a filler for some unanswered plotholes in the series, one should see this as an alternate possibility to the series. Except for the opening scene, the two worlds (the series and the movie) would not quite fit into each other since many of the plots are completely different. It can create more confusions rather than better understandings of the series.

| When I heard there was a movie for RahXephon, I couldn't imagine what it could be about. The series pretty much ended so perfectly, nothing else could have been added. After seeing it, I can tell you this. The movie is just an enormous recap episode. By itself, it's not a bad movie. The only thing that really differs is the end. I heard some people say they didn't care for the way the series ended, so I would suggest those people watch the movie and give RahXephon another shot. Really the only reason I rated this one lower than the series is because it's impossible for a recap to be nearly as in depth as the full thing.

| Reading others reviews of this movie, I understand that it might have been a confusing alternation of the original story. But, this movie something more, it provides explainations of the behaviour of the different caracters throughout the series.
I think it was kind of neat to take the most important scenes and show what happened inbetween the cuts and the fact that you've seen the series doesn't make this movie confusing at all... or so I thought... until some diversions from the main story came, they've made other caracters do the same thing, which gave the impression that it wasn't really the same company who have wrote the scripts.
I however regarded those as "error in writing" rather than alternations of the story.
What this movie was supposed to do was to show what did happen "between the cuts" while it did that very well i thought that these "alternations" (or how you want to regard them) to the story of the series could have been left out.
I think this movie would have needed a bit more time though, too explain some more things, but it left me unsure as well. Was the story of the series really as straight forward as I thought at first? Who are these mysterious girls and why do they appear everywhere out of nowhere?...
However, a big risk when you're watching this movie is that you might feel stupid... how could I've missed that, etc. or that's how i felt at times anyway. :P
Anyway, enough spoilers for one night. This movie is highly recommended *if* you have watched the series. If not, then watch the series it *is* as good as they say it is... ;)

| Dissapointed, the ending is totally different from series, even more confusing than the series. Squeezing a whole series into a 2 hour movie really cut out a lot the stories and characters (Reika is totally missed out, untill the very end as a different character), ok that's enuf spoilers.
It did shed some light into the original story but overall the series is much better.

| After watching series it seemd like logical thing to watch the movie...
But... what a disappointment!!! It's mostly a collage of snaps from series with some deviations from original script.
It does however reveal a secret or two you might not understood from series, but that's about it.
I was really disappointed with movie. If you haven't watched series - don't bother. You will be completely lost.
