| Whilst seeing the original series and its two followups constitute a requirement, it can be after the fact since the movie deals with the mano-o-mano beef between 1-Year-War vets Amuro Ray and Char Aznavel.
And while Char wishes to follow through on his late father's wishes, he ends up resorting to the same dreaded tactics utilized by the very Principality he helped dissentigrate. Amuro's having none of that as the mixtape battle starts taking more lives than gangbanging alone.
This is a must-see for anybody who really wants to experience what "Gundam" really is.

| Char’s Counterattack is a worthy ending to the rivalry between Amuro Ray and Char Aznable. There’s an overall good story, and a lot of mobile suit fighting.
The first thing that struck me when I started watching this show was how great the animation was done. Things like the mobile suits, battleships and colonies were impressively well detailed. Compared to the all of the sequel series, this was like a dream. Also the sound and music are what you should expect from a movie like this.
The characters from the earlier Gundam shows looked older and were more mature. Of course, there were also a lot of new characters. Most of them were okay, except of a few. This move is something you must see if you’ve watched Gundam 0079. Other series like Zeta- and Double Zeta Gundam didn’t seem to have much of importance the movie.

| This was one of the best Gundam movies I've seen. It is the fitting end to the rivalry between Char Aznable and Amuro Ray.

| This is probably the longest Gundam movie I've ever seen. I seen the Cartoon Network verison which took 3 freaking hours to show. And the DVD verison which was was 2 hours and something minutes. The animation isn't top notch but heck it's based off Gunda 0079 and the 13 years between Amuro and Char. Heck yes! The sound was the usual Gundam sounds and such. The story was good. But you'll definately be confused if you haven't watched the very first Gundam series and any others that have to deal with Universal Century timeline before this. The characters. Amuro and Char were pretty grown up. There was that one annoying girl in there who had nothing to do with Gundam And screwed up everything. I hated her so much. But I was shocked that alot of the charcters from the first Gundam weren't in there. There's only like 3 of them. You wonder what happen to everybody else who went through everything with Amuro. The value. It's a long movie so it's hard to say. It is a buy though. you'll never see any good rivalary like that ever again most likely. The enjoyment is really at the end. And it's not just Gundam fighting. When Captain Bright gets into is with the ships. That's pretty cool. One other thing. This is very super soap opera like. I'm not sure if you'll cry or just be left in silent at the end of the movie. But I was abit awed at what happen. You'll remember it.

| Before you watch at Char's Counterattack, you need to watch some gundam before you'll see its complete value. Amuro and Char are the two best rivals I have ever seen anywhere (life, sports, movies, anime....) The story can't be judged entirely through this film because the story starts in Gundam 0079 (1st one). Amuro is a great hero because he has his flaws. Char is a great villain because his goal isn't necessarily evil. The best part was the end when Amuro and Char finally understood each other. This is important because Char was always telling everyone that newtypes could understand each other and war wouldn't be necessary in a society of newtypes. I loved Char's final lines.

| Char's Counterattack ist ein recht guter Movie und stellt einen gelungenen Abschluss der originalen Mobile Suit Gundam-Reihe dar. Jedoch muss man ein wenig Geduld aufbringen, denn bis der Film in Fahrt kommt dauert etwas. Der Anfang präsentiert sich nämlich ziemlich durchwachsen und wenig interessant. Ich hatte auch nach 40 Minuten nicht das Gefühl das irgendetwas Nennenswertes passiert ist und das was diesen Movie in meinen Augen prägen sollte (Amuros und Char's Ribvalität) wurde zu sehr in den Hintergrund gedrängt. Stattdessen bekam ich Charaktere vorgestellt die mich nie wirklich besonders angesprochen haben und teilweise nutzlos und nervig daherkommen (besonders Quess strapazierte mein Nervenkostüm). Sie teilen das Schicksal typischer Movie-Randfiguren die keine große Einsicht gewähren und bis zum Ende gänzlich uninteressant bleiben ohne den Fluss der Handlung in irgend einer Weise von sich abhängig zu machen. Der Höhepunkt des Movies ist aber mehr als eine Entschädigung für den eher verhaltenen Start und Verlauf der ersten Hälfte des Films: Die finale Weltraum-Mechaschlacht zwischen Char und Amuro! Muss man IMO gesehen haben, das ist Adrenalin + Emotionen pur! Ein absolutes Highlight. Alles in Allem ist Char's Counterattack eine deutliche Steigerung im Vergleich zu den vorangegangenen MSG-Serien und durchaus sehenswert. Allerdings sollte man zuerst Mobile Suit Gundam + Zeta gesehen haben um diesen Movie richtig deuten zu können.

| The Gundam movie Char's Counterattack has its high and low points. The high are a pretty solid story and cool battles. The low points are Quess, (I HATE HER), and the somewhat dated animation. If you want to know more read on.

| Finally, Char and Amuro squares off again in this epic movie! Full of action and an excellently written story that in the end, every Gundam fans will remember the scene between Char and Amuro.
Excellent animation, the mech designs are great, too bad they didn't include ZZ Gundam in the movie. Sound is excellent, the dialogues between Amuro and Char is nothing but awe inspiring!
The story is excellent, there isn't any big twist and turns. There is no need since the point of this movie is the final showdown between Char and Amuro.
I don't think that there is anything could have happened differently than this movie. I wish it could be longer though and I can only wish there will be more Char and Amuro.

| Finally, the ending to one of my most beloved series...and I loved it. Its animation was great, its sound was great, and its story was great too with Amuro and Char finally settling their differences. I find it sad that both Char and Amuro perish in end, both for their beliefs.
Both the Sasabi and the RX 93 Nu Gundam are my favorites because of the funnel system, one of the most innovative weapons I've ever seen and even copied in Gundam Seed.

| The overall movie is fine. The ending is the only part bothers me. Well descriptive between the last fight between Amuro and Char. I guess Char (Quartto) talked about it at Zeta Gundam. Now that Char is raising an army so that he can "change the humanity." By freezing the Earth using Axis, everyone will have to evacuate from Earth to space, so that everyone can become a Newtype by evolution. (According to mahq.net.) So he tries to speed up human evolution and there will be no more discrimination between oldtype and newtype. Char's intention doesn't sound bad, but again, his action is not appropriate, much more like Haman in Gundam ZZ. (Even though he told Haman that she was repreating the same mistakes, himself also cause other people to suffer, so I guess he is kind of stupid or something. hahahaha...) Just as Gai said in Zeta Gundam, that Char can be more than a MS pilot (He has the ability become a prime minister.) but he just like to pilot MS. So I guess it is very stupid of him.
I don't think Char and Amuro has changed because Lalah is still the main factor about their rivalry (Ex. Last line of Char and Amuro: Char-Then what about me? Lalah can also become my "mother"!! Amuro-What? Lalah!? *If I can recall correctly.) At least they are both more mature than they were in the One Year War. Although they both agree the evil of humanity, but Amuro doesn't approve what Char is doing. "I'm not like you, I don't rush thing. I still haven't give up on humanity yet." That's what Amuro said during the movie.
Throughout the movie, there's some other focus, so it's not just Char vs. Amuro (Although this is the main point of the movie.) Quess and Hathaway's development is an example. Although Hathaway likes Quess, but Quess doesn't like him. I guess they are more like the by-product of the 2nd Neo Zion War. Some characters do die throughout the movie, but not much to worth note about.
Overall, this movie served it's purpose. It's a fine movie. I just don't really like the ending. It doesn't make any sense. At least it's still a must watch for Gundam fans, so it's fine in general.

| With Char's Counterattack I finaly leanrned my lesson not to watch movies unless you've seen, or have knowledge of the series that said movie is based on. Lots of stuff happens in the movie, but there's little to no introduction of characters or situations. The action sences are very well done, but witout knowing why the two groups are fighting eachother makes the whole experience rather trivial. The movie shows it's age in the animation and sound departments but is better then the original gundam tv series that it's based on. Final word, make sure you know what's going on in the 0079 universe before watching this or you'll be at a loss for 2 hours.

| Well, I have to say that this isn't one of my favorite Gundam anime... I never liked the mysticism part of Gundam so the whole resolution to the movie was a huge letdown to me... Plus things are just left too wide open, especially the Hathaway-Quess part of the story, and it makes me wonder why they were put there in the first place. Anyway, great visuals, but poorly executed and an ending to an epic saga of Gundam that could have been much better without all the Newtype effects.

| Ah classic Gundam movie, like most people have said this was the climatic battle between Zeon and the Earth Federation forces.
Very nice animation and and sound especially for its time as well.
The story was well developed for the ending and the action sequences was very good to view. The characters were all interesting although watching the other previous Gundam series will definately help ^_^.
Very good movie overall and definately worth a watch.
Note:
Both Gundam Wing and Gundam Seed copied ideas from this movie.
Gundam Wing: Final Asteroid decent except with a different approach to stopping it.
Gundam Seed: The multiple guns on PROVIDENCE Gundam In Gundam Seed were copied from the mind controlled NEWTYPE Gundam used in this movie! =P

| Being a gundam fan, my opinion may be biased. But keep in mind that I'm not the only one who believe this movie is at the top of A lists.
This is the final piece of work for the struggle between Char and Amuro for the Gundam saga that lasted 10 years upon this films release. It contains nonstop anime mecha action that gundam is so well known for, and includes some of the best animation work that set the tone for future CG use in anime.
Unfortunately, to truly enjoy the movie, one must have seen all the previous gundam shows (TV, zeta, double zeta). Of course, you can always cheat and read the synopsis of all those shows on the web. :)
It also works well in my opinion that Bandai America released this DVD here in 5.1 Japanese dialogue with sub. Needless to say, excellent transfer and further increased my enjoyment of the movie.
Please, pick up a copy and see what full scale mecha battle is space to save the Earth from nuclear winter is all about.

| The only thing I have to complain about this movie is that there is little or no mention of Zeta Gundam or ZZ Gundam. So in other words, you really don't have to see those two series to see the movie. Trust me, you won't be lost at all. In fact I watched this title only having read a few of the episode summaries for MSG and watching a few random episodes of Zeta and ZZ and didn't feel lost at all. Also they could have devoted some time to character development for the supporting cast and even Amuro since Char seems to get the majority of screen time. As for the ending, Tomino apparently wanted a more definite ending for this movie, but the sponsers for some stupid reason wanted the ending that we were given, as to say that maybe it isn't over. Well that's not the case, cuz Tomino said quite clearly that his story with Amuro & Char was over and done with.

The story is very good, and the battles are extremely well done. What a great way to end the Universal Century..wait actually V Gundam is part of UC, but I still perfer this movie as an end to UC.

| Possibly the best Gundam OVA I have seen... yet I've only seen CCA and EW...
But still, this rocks.
The animation is awesome, and some of the sounds... but the story it brings, along with the conculsion of the rivalry between Amuro Ray and Char Aznable, including Char's final speech as part of Neo Zeon.
This is definitely a must watch, a good thing to add to your DVD collection.

| Char's Counterattack is both good and bad. Good in the sense that it is the conclusion to the Amuro/Char conflict that you've seen since the original Gundam series aired so many years ago. It is also good because it has some of the best Gundam Mecha designs ever, and in great combat action. It is bad because it could have been so much more. The movie seems somewhat rushed, almost as if it should have been an OVA in 3 parts or so, to help flesh out the story and characters. Many of the characters have been around for a while( such as Amuro and Char), but some of the newer characters don't get enough attention.
All in all, a great Gundam movie, that could have been so much more.
