Sometimes you watch an anime and are just pleasantly surprised almost for no reason at all. This is one of those anime. I can't stop liking it, liking the characters, liking everything. And of all the topics to get into, watching a girl want to be a stage performer is not one that I would have guessed I would have gotten into. Overall, there are very enjoyeable moments, its fun to watch, parts are funny (particularly Fool) and I just have nothing bad to say about it. Its not particularly heavy, or dramatic, but it keep me smiling and I have found the main character has inexplicably drawn me in. I am enjoying this anime a lot.

If I try to put this series and its plot line into just one sentence it would be "The importance of dreams." but despite what seems like a very simple story about a young girl who joins a circus, there are so many well thought out and well developed plots that this series ended up jumping to the top of my list of anime.

I laughed at the comedy, cried sad tears when characters ran into trouble, and cried tears of joy at the high points. This series does not pull punches when it comes to playing with the viewers emotions and that by itself makes it a great series. Add in the superb animation and the exciting circus performances (despite using the laws of anime physics to create performances no human could really complete) and its a great show.

Based on 33 episodes:

Kaleido Star is a lukewarm anime with high production quality that never deviates from the pace it sets in the first 10 episodes. While the first season ending was conclusive, the second season is almost a rehash of the first, with similar messages, slightly better animation quality, and more of the same "perform for the audience" crap.

To summarize Kaleido, it is a 'climb to the top' storyline where a newcomer to a Cirque du Soleil-type show aims to become the top star. Along the way, she meets the spirit of the stage, which seems to appear to those who are destined to perform (which basically translates to - wishes to please the audience and has extreme passion), who indirectly as the guide to what Sora is feeling and has to do to overcome her difficulties. If one has watched Glass Mask, this anime shares many similarities in terms of the training required to get to the top.

Anyway, I found watching this anime to be horribly tedious. While the performances and shows are pretty awesome, the characters are quite dry. Mia and Anna have no real role, Sora's best friends have no real role except to act as filler characters. Ken, Sarah, Kalos also play minimal roles as staff members. Yuri and Layla are pretty interesting character for te first season, but they do not get much screen time. Ultimately, all you really watch in this main series is Sora getting better at her performances.

The second season basically is about Sora aiming to be the true star of the show. While previously it is Layla who carries the limelight, it is up to Sora to work with Leon (against May) to become better. Anyway, the first half of the second season seemed awfully similar to the first season, that I put his anime permanently aside.

Kaleido Star is a very dry and uninteresting anime whose production quality manages to garner the attention of those new to it. However, over time it fails to carry real interest throughout. There is no meaning to the storyline/characters and after a few episodes, the entertainment value drops severely.

One of the best animes ever! Perhaps it is due to the overall plot summary that people happen to read about this series that turn them away from trying it. It does have a circus-y theme that revolves around acrobatics, which might seem all too happy and easy for a lot of people...but Kaleido Star is so much deeper than what you might get from simply glancing at the title.

The name of this series, "Kaleido Star," does indeed hint at fame and bright lights; but Kaleido Star does not run along the same path as other series that seem to hint at this same concept do. The main protagonist does not win and achieve every ordeal so happily and easily, and her troubles [with the stage] are not very often solved by the end of a single episode and later forgotten. And another thing worth mentioning: her crying scenes are not simply put there to make her look fragile and innocent! As a matter of fact, when Sora (the protagonist) is buried in her ordeals, you'll see that she does cry a lot, but you can actually start to feel her pain and harsh emotions of guilt and confusion in the midst of her tears. I like this fact and how Kaleido Star knows how to really focus on the less-attractive emotions. For example, when a character is angry or frustrated, they do not simply put on an angry or frustrated porcelain face; that character does more than simply draw down their eyebrows...so that you not only see their emotions, but you start to feel it. Every episode - every aspect - of this series is important, eventually and successfully building up, not simply leading to, the final result.

Kaleido Star is the only series that contains an animated character that I've come to truly admire! The amazing thing about this series - the idea that I can't seem to wrap in words - is the overall feeling it emits. It really leaves you wondering just how far you're willing to go to reach your dream...and whether or not that dream is truly as amazing as you think...so please give this overly underrated anime the try it more than deserves!

Here is yet another fine example of why I think shoujo owns the crap out of shonen. Though admittedly Kaleido Star incorporates several aspects of shonen, the fleshed-out characters, cutesy mascot, and touchy-feely goodness reek of shoujo. And that's why I loved it to death. Also, let's face it; everyone loves a good underdog story (go Boise State!).

This series is honestly incredible. I've seen a lot of series and this one is just really able to make you laugh and cry along with the characters. The idea of a circus for the plot may not seem too deep, but the show is so driven by the characters and the animation is just so incredible that you forget about that. It just becomes a story about a girl who has dreams and what she did to accomplish them.

I can honestly say that this is one of those series that you'll never forget. The characters are memorable and the performances are executed beautifully. It doesn't always end up as everything is perfect though and realy goes through the struggles that each character goes through. The plot is just about a dream. A huge dream and one that although it seems unrealistic to accomplish something like that, it's truly heartwarming seeing the main character follow her dreams and the outcome of it.

What will really hold you into this show though is just the characters. The characters are all likeable and really drag you into the story and make you feel for them. All 51 episodes are incredible and this is definitely going to one of the highest rated shows for a long time to come.

Kaleido Star was a big surprise for me as I expected it to be a typical shoujo with probably many cheesy moments...
I was proven wrong..

Animation: Overall, it was beautiful, bright colours and flowing movements that even appeared graceful, a very colorful setting that didn't appear too flashy....it totally captured the brilliance of a circus and the lovely performances that I just had to rewatch again. However it had its flaws, I noticed that several episodes had seemingly worse animation compared to the rest in which the characters looked distorted, thankfully this didn't affect their performances on the stage

Sound: The opening and ending themes were ok but what i really loved was the background music, it was sometimes quite repetitive but it totally created the magical feel for this anime and enhanced it a lot more (even though you may not realise it). So do turn up the volume whenever you watch any of their performances

Story: This may seem not that special as it is only about a girl striving to achieve her dream and encountering many hardships. But the concept about a circus and acrobats is very unique, I don't think there are many animes out there that have attempted this genre and managed to keep it so interesting and magical. Whats good is the emphasis on friendship, Sora gets through a lot mostly due to the help of the people around her, it is not a one-girl show, all the rest are equally important characters and do shine as well. As stated, the romance is hinted but barely there, truly not the highlight of the show

Character: As mentioned above, all the characters are great, in fact it is impossible to hate either of them since even the bad ones turn good at the end. Although this seems rather idealistic, it leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling at the end

Overall this was a great ride, Satou Junichi's other creation, Princess tutu had left me in a bit of a trance when it ended, apparantly this had the same effect. It is hard to describe the truly magical effect this has, you have to watch it to know, and you won't regret it

Note: This review is for Kaleido Star, Extra Stage and Legend of Phoenix.

Dreams. Every person in a world has a dream, it's a thing that makes us going. If not for them we couldn't live, we couldn't survive. Such thing as hope couldn't exist. Dreams give us the inner power, without of which we couldn't accomplish anything. Dreams differ from person to person, some are content with little and simple everyday dreams, some have huge ambitious dreams. A dream is the most important thing human could ever possess and he should do whatever to his power to not fail or lose it.

To my surprise Kaleido Star wasn't a simple romance driven shoujo show, actually, romance is barely noticeable in it. Just as Berserk is your "typical" shounen, so is Kaleido Star a "typical" shoujo. In other words the shoujo in Kaleido Star is barely a superficial genre. This show is one of a kind I'd call a both genders show, as dreams are equally important to everyone. Even though the main character of the show is a girl, I didn't find her dreams neither nonessential nor irrelevant. Actually, I fell in love with her ideals and dreams nearly at the very beginning of the show. And even though I support the Griffith's of Berserk dream from all my heart, I found Kaleido Star to be the second best dream inspired show from what I've seen to this date yet.

My second surprise with the Kaleido Star was that the show isn't as idealistic as I've predicted. Even though I agree that a slight flavor of idealism is flowing through the show, sometimes it's kind of realistic. Sora, even though, being a genius at gymnastics can't do pretty much anything correctly from the first time. Actually, through the whole show I've noticed only three flawless performances of the main character, if they haven't been perfect though, the whole idea of the show would've been flushed to the toilet. So even though I always loathe stupid idealism common in the most shows, I did love the subtle glances of it in the Kaleido Star. And at the times the show makes you believe that it finally did become idealistic, you are suddenly forced to get a dose of realism. There was one scene in the latter half of the show, which I had to repeat 5 or so times to finally believe that such a thing really did happen.

After all I'd like to recommend the show to the people who love the idealogy of dreams. If you love characters who give their best, who can even sacrifice themselves for their dreams - then it's your show, it for sure was mine. On the other hand, if you want to check a typical romance driven shoujo, you should rethink about watching this show, as the romance is barely here.

Kaleido Star is a very fun, cute anime. From a technical point of view, KS shows very few (-if any-) signs of cheapness. The music exceeded my expectations and the animation is very well done.

What’s striking about Kaleido Star is the execution. Kaleido Star shows everything in a quick, effective, interesting and amusing way. Strangely enough, Kaleido Star reminds me a lot of Fruits Basket in terms of what it tries to accomplish (and teach us), and if I had to pick one of them, I’d have to say Kaleido Star does a much better job at it.

The characters are really likable and (thankfully) don’t come off as cliché stereotypes. Kaleido Star isn’t going to win any major awards or be labeled “a masterpiece” but it’s definitely an all around great show and I highly recommend it.

Very well-made anime, you'd think circus anime doesn't sound too good but you'll be hooked by the first ep

as far as the full moon wo sagashite comparisons... doesn't really make sense. I guess they are both about reaching your dreams but they're really different besides that, I like both for different reasons...

Now I'm not claiming to be a connoisseur of anime; in fact I've only watched four complete series in my life. However, I think that affords me a certain extent of naivety that made Kaleido Star so enjoyable.

On first glance, the target audience seems to be middle school girls but as the episodes progress, anyone can pick up the universal themes of achieving dreams through ambition, diligence, friendship and family bonds. Perhaps dozens of other animes out there may espouse similar themes, yet Kaleido Star's execution of them makes it one of the best and most unique.

Sora's plight through two seasons can rally even the most seasoned of cynics. Her radiance not only vitalizes the supporting characters in the troupe but the viewers as well. This anime fosters an emotional bond between characters and the audience-- we experience the wealth of happiness and sadness of each character as they evolve throughout the series.

In all, watching Kaleido Star was an inspirational adventure that fans of any age, gender or background will come to cherish.

Kaleido Star is probably one of greatest aniems out there. This is like Full Moon wo Sagashite, or Fancy Lala except it involves the circus. It has a great Story Line and perfect animation. It has incredible humor parts too and unforgettable moments that make you want to watch this show over and over again.

The characters in the show all grab your attention. Each of them have a great back story and their personal characteristics are very attractive.

The story line was almost perfect! It has some parts in it where i want to skim through it just because i didn't like it, but that might be because i was up all night having a Kaleido Star marathon and i didn't feel like watching that part because of its predictability and my fatigue.

Either way, its still incredibly enjoyable and it put a smile on my face for a loongg time.

Kaleido Star is the welcome odd thumb from a studio in which I have very low opinions. All the elements are introduced in the opening episode: the generic “you can do anything if you only try hard enough!” shoujo heroine, the glamorous but seemingly bitchy rival, and the love interest. The only thing that doesn’t appear is the mascot; no need to fear though, the seal appears soon enough. Despite the typical shoujo setup, however, Kaleido Star manages to be well worth watching because it exudes an undeniable charm that’s appreciated and a breath of fresh air among all the aggressive and angsty anime. Although I know Sora is going to overcome all obstacles, I root for her anyway.

If you loved watching Fullmoon wo Sagashite, you'd definitely enjoy Kaleido Star. This is an anime about a girl with a huge dream, but she encounters many realistic obstacles along the way. A blend of both drama and humor (not much romance, though), Kaleido Star will undeniably capture your attention.

Animation: As expected from a 21th century anime, the artwork is fantastic and up-to-date. The colors may have been a bit bland, but the gymnastic movements are amazing. The guys are really good-looking, and I suppose the girls are too (although the guys catch more of my attention), but in a long series such as this, there are parts that I do not deem very realistic or consistent. Overall, it’s very nice. Each performance is awesome, and the grueling trainings are drawn out really well that I can almost feel the pain and the intensity.
Oh yes, as a side note, I love the clothes, very original.

Sound: The opening and ending music are alluring, and the background sound is very thought-out and done. The different types of sound expected to hear from different equipments are incorporated into the anime. Although there are parts where there was no music, no where in the anime does it have bland silence. In addition, this anime does not contain the high-pitched SHUFFLE! type of voices besides a few characters not very important to the story.

Character: Mostly about Sora overcoming life obstacles toward her dream of being the True Star, the anime also focuses on the development of other characters as well. Each character has his/her unique personality and background, balancing out the story as to make everyone just as important as Sora.

Story: Even though the anime is highly predictable, but that did not stop me from watching the beginning to the end in three days. It is enthralling and intense, dramatic yet humorous. The anime teaches the audience the importance of perseverance, friendship, and hope. As Sora grows from a naïve teenager with big dreams to a mature stage performer, the audience matures along with her. There are comical scenes, bitter parts, heart-wrenching moments, disappointing times, and happy, wondrous periods; Kaleido Star never leaves you bored. The storyline is very real, about a teenager’s struggle through life, and although a few of us might never be a celebrity, we can still be like Sora and soar toward our dreams.

Enjoyment: Since I neglected all my homework and finished this 51 episode anime plus 2 other ova, you can tell how much this anime is worth watching. I was captured from the beginning, and my emotions wavered along with the characters. Kaleido Star is definitely one of my top recommended anime.

At first when I read the review for this Kaleido Star I thought it would definetly be not my type of anime, but you shouldn't judge a anime by it's looks. When I watched the first episode, I could tell this anime had a thing going, with a good first impression of each characters attitude and how well the animation and sound was. Then once I clicked to the next episode, I kept on watching and before I noticed, I was on episode 7 and enjoying this anime more and more.

Seeing the characters develop throughout the story, and how each character shows their feelings makes the characters so damn likable, and cool. Everyone in the story grows with the plot, making each episode more excitiing and enjoyable to watch. Each character has their own important thing throughout the story, helping everyone cooperate and grow. Every single character also goes through their ups and downs, losing and regaining confidence makes the characters feel lifelike. When Sora cries, you cry. When she's happy, you're happy. These feelings from the story project so widely!

While Sora is the main character, other characters are also very important to the story. Each and every person has a purpose in the story, developing depth and helps you relate to each and every feeling. All of this helps the anime feel very lifelike and believable, and I would high suggest watching this anime. I am one not to cry but just from watching the first season I started to almost cry. Amazing!

No wonder this was produced by the same director of Sailor Moon. In the final episode I thought I was watching Sailor Stars. Overall this was an enjoyable anime. Though I'm not an avid fan of such kind of animes (and certainly on some scenes I wanted to vomit) I admit that some episodes made me shed a few tears. One episode where Anna meets her father (I think it was #11) and the final episode. But the same happened in the final episode of Sailor Stars since they're so similar in direction.

Despite the sometimes childish themes I'll give them credit for the amazing animation during the various acrobatics of all kinds. I havent seen any other animated feature doing such a good work overall. Except Disney's Fantasia.

Because when the anime gets dull only the wonderfull animation saves it and makes it memorable. Unfortunately I have long ago surpassed the age group this anime targets so I remained uninfluenced most of the time about the characters. Or else I'd give them a higher score.

But if you liked as a kid going to the circus or watching circus on TV, I'd recommend this title despite being a little childish. It brings about some magical moments that only a few animes can produce. It will certainly help me relax and focus on more violent and blood-stained titles a little better. Of course I'll watch the two remaining OVAs of Kaleido Star first!

We've seen a boy learn how to play the game of Go from a ghost. We've seen reapers help a girl with throat cancer sing. Then Kaleido Star comes in with sixteen year old Sora, who has dreams about being part of Kaleido Star. She is able to see Fool, the spirit of the stage. Only people with the power to become the True Star of the stage can see him. Sora must rely on Fool and his deck of tarot cards to assist her career at Kaleido Star. He gives her advice and insight to the future. Now I know what you are thinking.. this anime sounds completely corny and for 8 year olds, but it really isn't. You should definately give this anime a shot.

Like the similar animes I described earlier, this one is enjoyable for all. Everyone can relate to it, because we've all had dreams. The morals and themes will not make you want to gag or gauge your eyes out, I swear. The main characters are fleshed out and the second season has a bit of an edge. The characters are not perfect and each have their own flaws. Overall Kaleido Star is quirky, a whole lot of fun and laughs. However, some of the more mature and serious scenes will probably make you cry.

Animation: nice character designs and very colorful! The acrobatic scenes are quite impressive, because they are smooth and flowing. Not choppy at all! Kaleido Star does not reuse frames constantly, which is good. You get to see several different shows that the characters perform in, including Swan Lake, Little Mermaid, Arabian Knights, Dracula, Romeo and Juliet, etc. Also, there is a whole array of stunts from "Golden Phoenix" to "Demon Spiral". You will really feel like you are watching Cirque du Soleil.

The sound is good and enhances the mood. The OP and ED tracks are catchy, but nothing stellar. The background music is the best though. It is underappreciated if you ask me. A lot of shows you take for granted the music untill you get ahold of the soundtracks. It might take awhile for you to find some of the CDs not sold.

Story is lovely and enjoyable, but nothing new and unique. But that really doesn't matter! The execution and pacing is done really well. The first season begins with some filler, but shortly after the story picks up.

The reason this anime did not score higher was mainly due to the characters. I felt they were not used to their full potential. Some were developed early on only to be forgotten later. This happens a lot in animes, but I can't stand it. What is the point of developing a character if you aren't going to use that personality later on? I won't name characters, but at the end their stories still have loose ends.

The OVA with Rosetta you may want to pass on, but I definately recommend getting "Legend of the Phoenix". You learn more about the mysterious Layla and her past.

Kaleido Star is a beautiful anime. The series has everything including a good storyline with many funny characters . The Characters are more developed in the second season than the first but that is expected. The show mixes the romance and the action performance together well creating a mixture of fun and excitement with each passing episode .

Kaleido Star is my most Favorite series ever. This is defently a series to download. It will make you watch it episode after episode , and then it will blow you mind with great story and excitement.

I give this anime 10 out of 10 because I find no flaw in this series whatsoever. Animation is on top these days with smooth drawing. Sound is beautiful and attractive story and character development with most important aspect of the anime: enjoyment will make you love this anime.

The most important aspect of Kaleido Star is the plot that is what impressed me the most as I began to watch this series. Many animes with over 50 episodes suffer from having too many fillers which soon give viewers boredom. Surprisingly, there is no single episode in Kaleido Star makes viewer feels that way. Each episode shows how Sora and her friends face the challenges to achieve their dream and how their characters develop along the way. Every event enhances the story line and makes the series more and more interesting. The series does not always focus on main character, Sora. Secondary character also plays an important role such as Layla, Rosetta and May and so on. Each character has their own background story and as the series goes on you'll get to see how each one of them overcomes their difficulty. Animation is top notch these days, no complaints. Music is excellent, it fits perfectly into every events. Will I ever watch it again? Absolutely! The enjoyment of this series is just too much. Kaleido Star is truely something you are not going to forget.
