I cant agree with this people saying that the Character design look old and the story is stupid. Gosh, what they are thinking?. Tetsuwan Atom or AstroBoy is a landmark in Japanese animation. It established the basis for the anime We know today, and keeping that in mind, you dont change the character design of a dear character like Astroboy. It is like placing the Mona Lisa in a new framwework. It is the Mickey Mouse of Japan, just to say something. This new series looks very good, with enhanced animation and a great opening intro. The ending theme is o.k. but not too appealing. The story is not that simple as people says. Robots are not welcomed in the human world and Astroboy must prove that robots and humans can co-exist, same as lets say, the X-men. Of course in the series there are some filler episodes that are just simple and boring sometimes, but there are good story arcs that should be check it out. Lots of great characters makes this series an interesting one. I am glad the studio behind Tetsuwan Atom launched this series with upgraded animation, but keeping the original designs because it is after all, Astroboy!

I liked this new version of Astro Boy. Osamu Tezuka's characters and concept of resolving conflicts without violence (which is what Astro Boy constantly tries to do) are still relevant today. Unfortunately, some people may be turned off by the old character designs and kid's story.

But the animation quality is absolutely astounding. The detail put into this show compares to and maybe in some aspects surpasses that of Ghost in The Shell: Stand Alone Complex, which is the new goal to pass in terms of TV animation quality.

Even if you don't like the old school anime, you should still give the new Astro Boy series a run for its money. I do, however, worry about the dub that's coming to Kid's WB though...
