| Divergence Eve has a confusing and somewhat unrewarding story, average animation and sound, but horrible 3D computer graphics. Don't bother with this one unless you really need something to watch during lunch.

| Divergence EVE is not a bad anime. It's just not great. The series has a bad start, but gets much, much better as it goes on. Over all, it has a much better plot than the typical sci-fi series. However, you probably wouldn't think that if you just saw the animation.

| The anime has successfully created an uncertain atmosphere that keeps me to watch till the end. Not bad but not a must see either.

| Ok this anime had tons of potenial but was pulled off kinda weird.
Animation was very nice, and had good CG. But the intergartion was bad. The CG did not fit in with the animation at all, it felt like the CG was for a live action show (with live actors). The CG felt like it was ment for a non-animated show, istead of an animated one, so -2 points for it. Also the mecha were fairly poorly designed.
Sound was good. The OP was very fitting and i liked it alot. The ending theme was a good song, but did not fit the anime at all. -2 points for it.
The story was very good, had a kinda vandread/ rahxephon feel to it. Alot of the major characteres die for a 13 episode series, but its ok.
The characters were fairly cliche but thats not what brought down the score. It was the boobies. Yes the boobies. All the female characters had insane breasts that bounced every single time you saw them. The andriod was the most realistic female. I ususally don't mind the disporortionate (sp?) bodies of females in anime but this was way to far. It detracts from the anime. Almost as bad as Mina from Air Master, but with all the girls.
Value is low because it did not stand out really in its genre (with the breast exception, which was way worse than vandread).
Enjoyment wise it was ok, but won't get a second watch or stand out much in my mind.

Thought i should edit and make a note of the fanservice. The fanservice was done oddly. True there were alot of nude shots and panty shots but not in the convential fanservice shots. The nude/panty shots were almost all done in time with major seriousness of the series, like during a medical examination, when the ghouls attacked, when the ghouls assaulted the girls minds, etc. The true fanservice occured in the ending theme totally, some in the intro and the excessive boobie bounce with the full/mostly fully clad scenes with any and all females.

| Divergence EVE scheint nicht gerade viel Anklang bei den meißten Leuten zu finden und nachdem ich mir die gesamten Reviews dieser Seite zu Gemüte geführt habe (EDIT: Die besagten Reviews wurden bereits gelöscht) gibt es genau 2 Hauptgründe dafür: Zum einen die 1. Episode die eigentlich Episode 12.5 ist und somit zum eigentlichen Höhepunkt der Serie gehört. Als Zuschauer ist man da natürlich erst einmal vor den Kopf gestoßen und man versteht absolut nichts von dem was einem in dieser Episode präsentiert wird da der Ablauf absolut konfus ist und man weder Charaktere noch Storyverlauf irgendwo einordnen kann. Ich frage mich ernsthaft was sich die Verantwortlichen dabei gedacht haben, das dürfte einiges an Quoten gekostet haben... Zum anderen sind es die übertrieben großen Brüste aller weiblichen Protagonisten über die sich die meißten Leute beschweren und die auch wirklich abschrecken können. Komplett unnötig! Es ist verständlich das ein Großteil wegen diesen 2 Faktoren nach der ersten Episode das Handtuch geworfen hat ABER...blickt man über die Torpedo-Brüste und den wirren Start der Serie hinweg und bleibt hartnäckig so wird man schnell merken das Divergence EVE bei weitem mehr zu bieten hat. Die Story ist gar nicht mal so schlecht auch wenn man ihr etwas Zeit geben muss bis sie sich entfaltet und interessant wird, das gleiche gilt für den Cast. Man wird langsam Zeuge wie sich diese Serie zu einem stellenweise unterhaltsamen und spannenden Science-Fiction-Thriller entwickelt dessen Atmosphäre mich so manches mal sogar an die "Alien"-Filme erinnert hat. Selbst wenn der erste Eindruck manchmal entscheidend ist, dieser Anime verdient eine zweite Chance und ich kann nur empfehlen die Flinte nicht vorschnell ins Korn zu werfen. Man muss zwar ganz klar sagen das Divergence EVE bei weitem kein Meilenstein ist jedoch auf gar keinen Fall eine so schlechte Serie wie es die meißten Leute hier versuchen aussehen zu lassen.

| Why is the rating SO BAD?! This is a good show! Sure, it can be hard to follow and the ending purposely was made to not end, but why are there so many 1's? Is it cuz the gigantic breasts? Quite frankly I found this show to have very little fanservice. I mean, there are hardly any panty shots, there's not that giggling, and the partially nude scenes are done tastefully and realistically. I mean, you're going to expect some when you're looking into a girl's room at night when she's having a dream (that doesn't count as fanservice). I just don't get the complaints about fanservice at all. So many shows have so much more than this one. Oh well, on to the review.
The animation was pretty good, I think. I found the CGs to be fine. They do look dated but I didn't find any problem with them (the Rampart looks like a Battletech Flashman). The two lost points are from the breasts that must give the girls crippling back pains at the end of the day and the facial expressions of the Misaki ghoul (it just looks weird to see it looking pissed). I think the music was overall excellent. The ED though is the fanservice part. The animation there just says fanservice and so does the song. It just doesn't fit in a show this serious and full of depressing moments. I would've liked more elaboration on the story but I thought it was really good. I just hate how they basically force you to watch season 2. The inclusion of ep 12.5 at ep 1 was confusing too. Overall, this is a solid series well worth a watch. One of the better ones of 2003. Don't expect fanserivce though (though ep 1 should clear that idea out of your mind). This is a serious show. Think Geneshaft but MUCH better (that's the closest I can think of).

Divergence Eve have an excelent plot, unexpected events, horror, and a good Sci-fi plot. The CGs are terrible (thus not 10 on animation), but other than that, there is not a single thing wrong about this.
The episode 1 been actually episode 12.5 is annoying and adds for the amazing low rate this anime gets ... (WATCH it after ep 12, they do not recap this there)
People who watch one or two episodes, does not understand the first episode and judge it by the huge breasts and nudes are completelly retards, amazing how one can get so superficial.
MC D-Eve, second season is out, looks like will get from where this ends, which is a very good development and will add for character development.
I´m so ashamed of the low grade this gets all because of Boobs >:( Once you get used to the BBB (Big Bouncing Boobs), a must see

| I orginally did write this review after watching 4 episodes, and it truly bashed this anime because the early episodes are indeed that bad. It was only years later that I watched the entirety of the anime, and I only gave it the chance because the second season came out and because some claimed it became great.
This simply isn't so. The story does get fairly interesting as they settle into the run, but it never moves far from mediocre, and certainly isn't great. Put this into place and you simply can't excuse the first three to five episodes, which ranks as among the worst anime introductions ever, with characters you don't care about, situations that don't make sense, and of course, giant football breasts. Yes dammit, the animation does matter to me, and as an anime fan, I can accept horrible distortion of the body...to a point. Yes, the anime gets significantly better, so if you've already seen the first half, go ahead and watch the rest. No, it doesn't become great, so avoid this anime like the plague if you haven't seen it, because the first couple of episodes does bad, bad things to your brain. Having suffered through the show, you should also note that there is a second season(which I haven't watched), which appears to be garnering good reviews. However, take that with a grain of salt, since the only people watching it are quite likely to be ones who liked the first one...

I cannot possibly imagine what on earth have the producers of this series thought. If you want to do a serious scifi series, you don't make every female character a F-cup.
I would assume that there some kind of great plot behind those huge, jiggly things but unfortunately I can't see it. Terrible things are happening and people die, but I don't care one bit. When you add the mind-puzzling first episode that uses some material from the very end of the series, you have such a mess in your hands that a year-worth of cleaning up won't help.
Of course I could still complain about the terrible computer graphics and "hideous monsters" that make you want to go under the bed... from shame. But that won't change the one fact about this series: it sucks. Period.
Unless you either don't care about big breasts or like them a lot. Then you might actually be able to enjoy the story. But start watching from episode 2.

| A good anime with many strong sides and a few bad ones, which can ruin the whole anime for some people. Let me elaborate:
First episode is too confusing for most. But the thing is, you arent even supposed to understand it, as it is a big flashback from near the end of series. My suggestion: Watch 1 first, but keep in mind that its just a flashback. Then watch till 12 normally, and see ep 1 again before 13.
Then theres the big boobs. One wonders what they are doing in an anime with such a great storyline and a gloomy atmosphere. D-Eve would have probably been better with smaller breasts, not that I mind that much. They just take the attention away from the best parts of the anime.
The storyline is intelligent, maybe even too much so. People who are used to "lighter" animes with the same usual recycled stories will have trouble comprehending D Eve's complicated storyline, and will therefore not like it. Of course if you have a problem with sci-fi and far-fetched stories then its another thing. But, actually the physics in D-Eve isnt THAT far-fetched, as some is based on real theories.
After all these possible anime wreckers D Eve emerges as a great anime with an amazing, if complicated, story. Animation is ok, 3D parts do seem a bit weird every now and then, but its nothing critical. Sound and music fit the anime well, except the ending song, which is a shocker after some episodes.
Characters arent pictured that much in depth, as the story concentrates mainly on Misaki the main character and another things besides character interactions. This often gives the anime a bit gloomy and desperate atmosphere, compared to most happy animes (one that comes instantly to mind is another space station anime, Stellvia). I often noticed myself feeling sorry for Misaki.
Summa summarum: Very enjoyable, if you can look past or avoid the fun wreckers mentioned above.

| big breasts of course, but useless complaining everyone is doing: if you seriously watch a show, you get used to/ignore the idiosycrasies (which every anime has). like when i first saw naruto...just...wtf? those were the ugliest characters i had ever seen, but i got used to them and i enjoy the show...stupid lame reviews (reviewers) here, if you're going to give a poor grade at least have a reasonable justification
that being said, i concur that this anime is not for everyone. i am of course biased towards it as sci-fi is my type of genre and i'm more easily hooked by this type of story. the story is much more complex and intruguing than most anime, but not more confusing than, say, eva or rahxephon. the animation is fairly good and the CG isnt as bad as everyone is saying. my theory about the first episode is that the CG was done ad hoc for that setting since the "poor" effects weren't prominent in the later episodes (i may very well be wrong but w/e...just idiosyncrasies again)
to those considering watching, episode 1 will not make much sense. episode 2 should be fairly good, but may not interest everyone. the resulting few episodes are still good, but perhaps a little dull to watch; the plot _really_ picks up near around ~9 or 10. if you don't like sci-fi (at all), then maybe you really shouldnt watch it. and again, the story is fairly believable (it's not quite as preposterous as the ignorant people think. if you want unbelievable bullshit read turn-of-the-century sci-fi...the so-called "classics" [H.G. Wells anyone?]) so...give it a chance and you may find that you like it.

update: finished series now. it was a very good if not confusing ending =D can't wait for sequel in 2004. i'd now have to say it definitely rates among the top animes of 2003, although not the best for sure. and i agree with tsukasa, that ending was really reminiscent of rahxephon :O...so for all those who gave up on this after 1 (or a few) episodes, you really missed out! if you still don't like it after the whole series, you either just don't like this type of plot/setting/genre (which is forgivable of course), or are a dense, narrow-minded person that can't make proper judgments for yourself. t(-.-t)

| Divergence Eve is probably not the easiest anime to digest. It has more than its shares of handicaps that take most the edge or focus off the main idea, wich is the plot. For an overly inflated genre; Mecha and Sience-Fiction, it depends more on drama, and storyline, than action-exploitation.

| Ok, I agree that the character designs in this anime are a bit much but Im sure that most can get past the Nurse Nanako breasts.
Ive watched up to episode 5 so far and I actually plan on watching more of it. Ignoring the bouncing, Ive found that this is a very interesting anime. It has the sci-fi anime "WTF is going on" theme going wich I personally like but some might not. Some how Kureha has a connection to the alien manifestations that plague the space colony and this is the driving force to the storyline.
The animation is prety good excluding some of the cgi that they throw in everytime one of the shuttles leave the hangar and I dont particulary like the mech models but I guess they are built more like what a working mech might look like. Also there is the fact that every woman in space has been selected strictly by breast size, but that you can ignore more easily that the bad cg.
The characters so far seem to be one-dimensional with the exception of the main charater who keeps having the odd experiences. I also like the android girl Kotoko, always good to have your own Spock around.
If you liked Evangelion you will probably like this if you can get past the above things. If you follow the story you'll keep watching it to find out what happens next.

| Divergence EVE isn't as bad as everyone says, it's pretty decent once you get past the 1st episode.
CG is okay, pretty standard, but the regular animation is weak at times. The characters seem out of proportion... a 104 cm bust?? WTF?! (this may be good or bad depending on how you look at it...)
The sound and music are suprisingly good, setting the mood for what seems to be a pretty dark series, especially the OP, an excellently cool piece of work. I like the ED too, though the ED animation just seems like another 1 1/2 minutes of fanservice, as if the ecchiness wasn't enough. But I'm not complaining.
Story hasn't developed enough yet, along with the characters but it's just the 3rd episode. Expect more development soon.
Good points (no pun intended): Boobs, boobs, and more boobs!
Bad: Animation substandard sometimes, bad continuity from the 1st episode.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOBS!
