This series is magnificent. It has only one grand flaw: eps 6-13 and episode 15 are total trash. Seriously, download the series, then trow away the afore-mentioned episodes and you will have a much more positive viewing experience than I originally did. Without those episodes, Da Capo is easily one of the best romance animes I've ever seen and it has one of the best final episodes in anime.

Also, most people don't seem to know this, but Da Capo was originally intended as a dating game to parody dating games. This is why the characters often have odd reactions or seem way over the top. Each of them makes fun of a convention in dating games.

Nemu is the girl who sort of has a thing for you but is just close enough of a relation to make it wrong.

Sakura is the childhood friend and the character who inexplicably looks way too young for her age (intended for pedos).

Kotori is the school idol who is perfect in every way but who for some reason can never manage to get any.

Minatsu makes fun of bubbly spirited robots, girls who really, really like bananas and a certain incident out of Kanon (see if you can spot it).

Suginami is the singular male friend of the main character who inexplicably seems to know everything about the characters and school life.

There are others, but you get the idea. However, that Da Capo manages to take this cast of mock characters and propel them through a provocative and dramatic story in the second half it what really amazes me about this series. How Sakura changes through the series is especially intense.

Anyway, there's a girl for everyone in this series, though I've found that this is the only dating game anime where I've been rooting entirely for the female lead, though Kotori did turn out to be a very interesting character. It is only available on fansub, but I recommend it fully as a spectacular romance anime. Have fun.

This is a love or hate anime about a boy and the relationships he develops with the girls in his school (not in a School Days way though). It starts as a school-life romantic comedy (almost Love Hina-ish) and then develops into a serious drama. It happens that this anime turned out nice for me but it's not for everyone.

Da Capo is blessed with a great cast of interesting and diverse female characters - a character cast where you're sure to find one to like. Problem is, Da Capo relies strongly on these female characters to keep viewer interest. Therefore, after about 9 episodes, if you don't have a character you look forward to seeing, then this anime will be an absolutely hopeless case.

Da Capo takes place in a magical environment where the Sakura trees bloom year-round on an island. Infused within this fantasy magical reality, we have this main male character who is able to see the dreams of the people around him. As a result of this combo, there is this very floaty, airy and almost aloof feel to this anime - which might be problematic for those who want a more solid story feel in their anime. Personally, I really enjoyed the character cast and the diversity of personalities. Therefore, I found this magical environment to be quite refreshing. Almost like the flip side of the coin to Shingetsutan Tsukihime. Both of these animes are harem based, but have this magical and supernatural feel to it that makes thing slightly more interesting than reality dramas. The only problem with the characters is that Sakura is supposed to be fighting with Nemu over Junnichi. But Nemu never really puts up much of a fight or a good reason for him to like her - so the whole conflict kind of sucks when it matters towards the end.

Granted, Da Capo is not some awesome anime that deserves any sort of literary merit award for most innovative and original story. While there are some pretty tense dramatic romance events, as well as some interesting magical characteristics, the story is pretty plain by itself. Thankfully, the nice character designs and the pretty OST made up for quite some of the 'blank eventless' parts of the anime viewing, therefore it wasn't TOO much of a bore to go through watching the sakura petals falling or the characters just staring off into space.

This is mediocre anime with a nice cast of characters (both male and females). The story is pretty simple and straightforward with not too much twist, except with a little with the magic. The romance drama in Da Capo is also pretty straightforward... It had its tense as well as moving movements, but the main failure was that all this romance drama never really enhanced the character development. What I only liked was the initial character personalities that came with the first viewing. Therefore, towards the end I felt it kind of dragged on a bit when all the superficialness (tries to) disappear and all this weird bad stuff starts to happen.

Overall, not the most revolutionary anime, but one of the best harems I've ever seen. The beginning was lighthearted, fun and great but the end went a bit downhill from there.

I truly enjoyed this one. Reading other reviews, I expected a harem like brainless romance with your typical harem looser. Da Capo IS a harem, it's a hentai-game turned anime afterall, BUT it is made very well and doesn't feel like one at all. The romance is not brainless and the harem lead is not a spineless guy.

The Animation is ok, nothing special. Sound was enjoyable, but nothing one will remember except
for the ending which fits the anime very well and has its place in my playlist.

Its quite hard to reason why I think that the story and characters are worth 10 points without actually spoiling. First the lead characters: They actually feel like humans because they also have some darker sides to them and they behave naturally towards each other ( unlike the completely over-the-top behaviour in Shuffle! ). Nemu, Jun'ichi, Sakura are being developed good, and reasons are given for their behaviour. As soon as the drama kicks in there is also jealousy which makes them even more believable.

The characters stay true to their feelings, and don't deny them for stupid reasons. They do ask themselves questions like “Is this what I am doing right?” but even without knowing the answers they keep on pursuing their goals ( unlike the neverending question in Onegai Twins ) even if this results in them being selfish. This is something that can be very good understood and symphatized with.

Despite knowing that many may not like his decision, Jun'ichi didn't hestitate and sacrificed much in doing so. I was quite impressed by his behaviour which I completely didn't expect in a harem anime.

Nemu doesn't torment herself ( and the viewer ) with her insecurity whether she is allowed to do what she is doing, she just expresses her feelings which is actually quite brave because not everyone in her situation would do that.

Sakura is jealous and shows quite strong emotions because that. She doesn't hope that everything will just be fine ( again, unlike Shuffle! ), she takes action, does the wrong makeing everybody around her suffer, and makes the viewer see more than just the cute loli in her.

The side character Kotori is also worth mention, because she feels very mature and even more so after her key episode.

Please note that my above decriptions apply mostly to the drama part of Da Capo.

The story is divded in two parts. 15 slice-of-life and harem episodes, and the rest beeing drama. The setting in the slice-of-life episodes feels dreamy ( a bit like Air, which actually is a good thing ), beeing able to properly introduce the characters and gain momentum for the drama to have a big impact. This episodes also feature short side-stories following the daily lives of the girls. This adds to the dreamy feeling and also charachterizes the protagonists. I really liked the side-stories.

Therefore the stories are not as flashy as typical harem episodes but rather slow and peaceful. As soon as you grasp the dreamy feeling the drama kicks in. And there is actually there is substance in the plot which can be dealt with. The writers didn't fear making Jun'ichi to end up with a girl pretty early into the drama.

They also featured every harem girl once again in the drama plot giving them bittersweet and also unexpectedly sad endings ( I'll say “time capsule” and “school rooftop”, you wont be spoiled and you'll understand after watching the eps ;) which is just plain beautiful and made me getting a bit emotional.

I've seen much “anime confessions”, but the confession at the beginning of the drama plot is so ordinary, so incredibly natural, and the atmosphere is being so exceptionally well shown, that I've been completely astonished.

Overall I very much enjoyed the ride, twice already, and I'll once again. I expected a brainless harem and got a wonderful dreamy slice-of-life, and a drama with the class of Kimi Ga Nozumo Eien ( which don't like that much, but for the sake of comparsion ). This is NOT romance of “Honey & Clover”-class since this anime IS a harem. Think of it like a crossover between Air, Lamune and KGNE.

I'm writing this review not only to support an anime that I truly came to love, but also to offset the "rant" below this. Honestly.. if you hate a character so much, then just don't watch the rest of it. That will just bias everything..

But anyway, Da Capo is a unique romance anime that truly puts a twist into everything. In my opinion, the Forbidden Love aspect of it was truly the best part. Yes, Junnichi and Nemu are brother and sister. No they are not blood related (as you find out in the very beginning). So.. what is the problem? The other girls in the anime make it even more interesting than it already is, and Suginami (the best friend of Junnichi) was a wonderful character. I do admit though.. this anime is not for everyone. Even a lot of people who like romances may be turned off by this. But I will say this though.. whether you love or hate the brother/sister relationship, it honestly gives you a unique theme to think about, that other anime don't even touch. Thus, Da Capo is an artform that tries something new with the romance genre. So, if you like romance, and aren't a person to condemn something in the first 2 secs because you feel it is "wrong" then give Da Capo a chance. I'm certainly glad I did, as it has enriched my life with it's wonderful art, characters, and themes, and storyline.

"Da Capo"??.... no, no, no,... they should rename it to "The Crapo" (as kyoshiro comment).

This Anime is totally dissapointed. It story is the WORST of all anime that I had watched. REALLY CRAP STORY. The only thing that would be considered above average is its animation. Rhe drawing is decent, opening and ending song is alright. There is side story in each episde which i dont mind.

Junichi who always gets into bad situations and who is loved by virtually every girl in the anime. Nemu - Junichi's foster sister, Kotori - the school idol, Sakura - Junichi's sister(relative), Miharu - a robot that like banana, Mako - hyper girl, Moe - big breast slow motion girl. The girls are fine except for the Main Girl Character: NEMU. She is the worst looking girl, Why do they like that big hair/head style and bell tied around her neck. thats totally abnormal. All the other girls are way better than her. They're all much more kind, prettier and considerate than Nemu. Whenever Nemu bro is with another girl she gives that "jealous" expression or cold war for days, i mean like wtf seeing that for 2-3 times was ok but every episode????.Nemu was so annoying i get tempted to skip the show whenever she appears. She totally got no reason to be jealous: they are siblings, not lovers or engaged(shouldnt be, thats incest).

The first 15 episodes was fine for me, they got comedy and harem, but the story became worst and worst. I dont understand why others said that the otherway. They decided to have all these awful things happen to the characters to make things serious. It detracts from the general mood of the entire anime. I felt like I was watching an entirely different anime. From all the girls, why did Junichi choose her sister: Nemu - Big hair stye, bell on neck, smallest breast, worst in cooking, always jealous, etc...and they are SIBLINGS. How could u enjoy such a romance??? How about Sakura? Who wait Junichi answer for 5 years. What they want you to accept is that a non-blood relations of sister(adopted) and brother can eventually blossom into romance. My opnion is: dont touch this anime or even download it from fansubs....its totally rubbish. and also the "The Crapo Second Season". It goes well at beginning but you will be annoyed as the story ends up with that couple again.

It is in no way shape or form that this anime deserves to be in the top 200, there's plenty of 80' 90's anime that deserve to be heere but instead we just have new overr-ated, unorigiinal, mediocre ones there. people have no right to give this anime a 10 in everything if they haven't seen some classics.

It's no SURPRISE, another crappy anime based on a dating sim. This anime is from start to finish CLICHE!

Of course this is a harem so the guy is obviously another loser (how many times have we seen that?) and he has a big secret (just like every other harem guy)
For ABSOLUTELY NO REASON he has some special powers, which consist of making sweets with his hands and seeing other people's dreams.

Unsurprisingly a bunch of girls begin to show up and try to have Junichi fall in love with them. By the way they are some horrible characters, just some weird rip-offs and just so cardboard cutouts.

As a rebuttal to the last reviewers comments -- this is totally underrated & this is not for everyone. This is exactly why it's not in the top 50. Not everyone will have the patience to watch all 26 episodes without giving up (on top of that, there are plenty of people who see this show as the ultimate mix of bad, overused stories)

Of course, this feels like the absolute generic model for shows that we've seen recently. The most important part, regardless of whatever the storyline is, is whether it is executed well. Da Capo does not succeed and will only entertain those that love the filler episodes. You won't get the main story for episodes and episodes to go, and so this is not for the patience-thin.

With that said, all the elements that make up a show, as AnimeNFO defines them, Da Capo does not overly impress me yet it did not disappoint at the same time. Therefore I have to give a flat high rating.

Animation: The animation is better than I thought it was at first, but I don't like the art style. Then again, the 2nd is worse, so this is fine.

Sound: Opening song good, ending--didn't pay attention because the previews come before it (that and some of the side-episodes were so long that I just skipped along to the next episode)

Story/Characters: This is where Da Capo shines. Everyone else is somehow interconnected to the three main characters (you'll have to wait to see these connections established), but is executed very well (not subtlely, but you, as the audience, will realize it and the characters won't--at least not until the very end)

Enjoyment: I did enjoy this series, and hopefully Da Capo 2nd won't be an entire flop.

Firstly, i have to mention this anime is totally underrated. It should at least deserve a spot in the top 50 anime. But realize this genre isn't for everyone.

The animation is great, the arts, CG effects make the drama appealing, graphic are consider beautiful and of high quality.

The characters are their voices are nicely done, not to mention each character have their own style ,feelings and reponse.

The story is good and strong, but could be better. Especially, the part that are unrelated to the main plot should be removed (a short side-episode if a catman). However, the plot with yuriko is really sad at episode 22(my tears rolled T_T)

As an anime, it included comedy, romance, mysterious and sadness plot, package up to be of high enjoyable value. I agree the "forbiden love" genre pop up alot later.

I seriously recommend this anime to people who like drama

This has got to be one of the best anime ive seen in a long time. I have absolutly no complaints and im pretty shocked that its getting so many crapy reviews.

The animation was great, some characters were purposely drawn cheesey (the cat-man, and utarmaru)and i think people souldnt be rateing the animation so low because of that. The characters and backgrounds were all high quality.

The sound was flawless, as many other people have been saying, this anime has one of the best sound tracks ever. i liked how the opening and ending songs changed a few times to keep it interesting.

The story is probly where this anime shines the most. The relationship between Nemu and Junnichi really goes deep into the whole "forbiden love" genre that seems to be poping up alot lately. If you liked Koi kaze and Onegai twins, you will love Da capo.

All the character's were great. the main character Asakura Junnichi is thankfuly a decent guy and not some wussy little pud like in most anime's.

Overall, i highly recomend Da capo to anyone who is a fan of the love/romance genre. Da capo is a VERY well made anime.

As one reviewer mentioned, this is a HIGHLY underrated and under-appreciated series. Why some people give this anime low scores yet give totally crappy and boring ones high scores and even perfect 10s is quite beyond me... anyway, my thoughts...

This show follows the the harem formula to the letter, but actually comes up with something extra. The main guy is likeable and not a total loser like most harem-type shows. One can empathize with him and understand where he is coming from. And what's great is that the "other" guy in this series is also very likeable, sometimes more so than the main protagonist, and provides a great counterbalance in terms of personalities.

And of course, the girls... They run the whole gamut from elegant and classy to buxom and clueless to cute and rowdy. Understand that this show's premise is mostly based on something magical, and it proves beneficial as it doesn't try to constrict the show's characters into strict reality. You can appreciate each character in their own way and they are all likeable, as opposed to some harem series where you can easily tell which ones are the characters you'll love to hate.

The animation is decent but a joy to watch, and while it appears washed out in some instances, it doesn't deter from the show's mood. Bright colors exemplify high points, and dark, subdued colors mark the low points. One of the best uses of cherry blossoms in anime, in my opinion.

And the music. Damn, this show has one of the best OSTs in anime. It adds more than half of the mood of every scene, and they were all used appropriately without being too tedious to the ears. Music sweels at just the right situations, and becomes subdued in areas where it should be. Great use of piano and string pieces.

The story is nothing extraordinary. The first half of the series are random school situations that focuses on a particular character or set of characters, and the main plot doesn't really get going until the second half, where it becomes more serious and at times, very dark. Even though it isn't like KGNE or Air where the story tries to drag its viewers kicking and screaming into depressing territory, it is still compelling in its own right.

I guess the underlying incest theme probably discouraged most people from this anime, and one of the reasons why it has low scores. If you keep an open mind and treat this as a love story instead of a journey into immorality, you'll be able to appreciate it more.

I have watched and re-watched this series a few times already and I have to say it has a very high replay value. I won't consider it one of the best anime shows ever released, but it is a great show to watch again and again just for the fun and the music.

If this ever gets licensed, I'll be sure to get it as soon as it hits the shelves. There are worse things to pass the time than watching this great series...

Hrm... I had mixed feeling of this Anime. It started first as such a promising show then it just went downhill. The first few episodes were funny, engergetic and filled with humor, then the show just turned weird with a lot of useless info and usless DA CAPO episodes. Granted the special shorts have better anime quality and better fan service, but they got nothing to do with the plots.

Worse, the show had 2 recap episodes in a 26 cap, thus I agree completely that they can make this into a more compact, more touching 13~16 episode anime.

As for the story and the characters, I could careless for the first and found the second one a bit unrefined. As for the fake brother/sister relationship, it is pure crap if you ever ask around some real foster sibling that had grew up together. A sibling relationship just don't change into lover's over night, actually, a sibling bound (whether real or foster) is one of the hardest human bond to break. But that is just the psychologist inside me speaking I guess.

In the end, watch the show for some laughters and some humor, and bring some eyedrops for those terribly worth episodes that just drag on...

Still reeling from the last episode of Narutaru?
Lost your faith in harem anime from Wind?
Or have you seen too much of Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien and doubting true love?
Enter Da Capo.
Da Capo isn't just another Hina clone, nor another H-game turned anime; Da Capo is something more. From its moving story to its well defined characters, Da Capo shows that it surpasses its expectations and is more than just a harem anime. Let us examine it in greater detail, "from the top".
A long-missing friend came back after six years, looking exactly the same as the day she left, to an island of sakura trees that never wither. Even cherry blossoms hide secrets among their branches, and the Asakura siblings are caught in the middle of it all.
Da Capo's art is beautifully rendered, and its music suits the carefree atmosphere perfectly.
The anime's first half primarily focuses on comedy and character development for its large cast. Although initially appearing to be nothing more than the typical harem anime, a mystery steadily unfolds, each episode having some subtle hints concerning the series's epic conclusion. It starts slow, but eventually becomes more dramatic during the second half. The story is moving and emotional, easily rivaling many of the better known anime, while also lighthearted and relatively angst-free native to its genre. Some of the later episodes, however, include side stories that are relatively distracting to the main plot, and are irritating to those who want to get on with the story.
The characters are easily one of the strongest points in Da Capo. Many may be cliche, but they are the same stereotypes that we have come to love and adore during our anime careers. Had director Miyazaki stuck with merely the stereotypical characters, she would've had a winner on her hands. Yet by meticulously developing the characters using the comedic "filler" episodes, she's created those characters both lovable and realistic. Junichi isn't the stereotypical loser, nor is he the perfect gentleman. Nemu, while possessive like Naru from Love Hina, has her own unique traits that distinguish her as a strong, defined character.
This anime is perfect for one who loves harem anime, comedy, or a carefree anime. Even angst-loving viewers may enjoy the dramatic ending, or as a breather between angst-filled anime. In comedy value, this anime is right up there among such luminaries like Slayers, Dragon Half, and Excel Saga.

I like Da Capo. I found it interesting with a wide variety of crazy things. At first I had no idea what was going on and then we see robots and cat-maid and magic. I guess the story didn't really roll around until the second half of the series (when the strange cat man was venturing the island, finding memories of his past or whatnot). There's love in the story, the old cliched plot in which all the girls like the main guy character. But all in all, I liked it because there were some cute girls, an interesting story behind the sakuras and a little bit of dry humor.

Lots of useless space and time wasted between episodes. It could've been shortened to 13 core episodes for sure. The makers evidently didn't have a serious attitude until the very end.

One thing- They definitely could've made Da Capo a bit darker like Tsukihime. I would've personally liked that. Especially gone more into that magic business. But instead, they chose to delve into every fanboy flavor: cats, maids, robots, magic, etc. Da Capo had a lot of running potential but it was all wasted on variety.

Overall, cute but not worth the time. Hopefully Season 2 will be different.

Hmm...I just finished seeing this so maybe it's a bad time to review it but I'll give it my go.

I found this anime while I was in a rut and was also wondering what it's second season was like. I seem to have a thing for making sure I watch the first series before I go throwing other branches of a series on my Hard-drive.

I'll say this anime is umm..cute. The beginning was pretty funny and you also notice it gets perverted at times too. The beginningish episodes showed some panty shots as well (Ou wow..). But afterwards when Asakura and Nemu start..umm...realizing each other's feelings..things tended to get a lot more serious. As for the fillers and the side episodes..like people said below? Those were totally unnecessary. I think it was just a way to span the anime out some more because the episodes are actually a bit shorter (around 5~8 min but who's counting) shorter if it didn't have those eps in. Brother and sister(no blood relation but lived under the same roof as brother and sister) love seems to fall right into my lap when I watch animes that are dubbed "Love-Romance". I haven't seen a normal anime like that since...oh jeez...since Kare Kano. Why is everyone in a love-romance friggin related? Damn cousins and brothers and stuff. RahXephon friggin' got me too. Yeh, they're distant cousins sorta but jeez, why do they have to be family?

I liked the different girls and their different wishes btw. It was interesting to see how a certain object in the show seemed to control the people, their desires and other little tidbits they possessed. Like they say, it's like a dream..or something..

Uh, what to say, what to say? I liked this anime, though I'm still not quite sure about it. I know I really don't like Nemu very much, too much of a one dimentional character, and I wish she had died in the first episode, or maybe they could have pulled a kgne and put her into a coma, but left her in it the whole time.

This series developed some of it's characters relatively well. My least favorite characters by the end of the series were some of my favorite by the end. It was very interesting to watch Sakura develop as a character, I even started to respect her by the end, and Suginami showed some amazing insite and depth occasionally.

The plot was...meh. It was a very weird, sort of made up, concept. You can tell they just focused on the love story and character development, instead of other details. That's a loss in the plot deparment, but it allowed for character depth.

The cat side episodes were stupid.

The whole adopted brother and sister love thing was weird, but I could deal with it if I had liked the characters more, but the world goes on.

The opening theme was pretty good, I can't remember the ending theme at all, and the rest of the music was average.

The art was good, not exceptional by any means, but you could enjoy the artwork on it's own.

Overall a pretty good series, nothing you need to go out of your way to see, but entertaining.

After watching this show all in one day, I have to say it was really good. The first sixteen episodes are used to develop the characters. The second half is where the conflict really unfolds and you really get drawn into the story. The only thing that I really found unenjoyable were those side episodes with that weird cat. I still don't see what the whole point of those were. You either love this anime or you hate it, it really depends on what genre you are into. I really loved it and it was well worth my time. Oh yea one more thing... I cannot stress enough that the love between Nemu and Junnichi is not incest. They are not related and only developed a sibling like relationship because Nemu moved in with Junnichi when her parents died. There is nothing wrong with them loving each other!

A girl, Nemu, who has a crush on her roomate, Asakura, who she calls her brother. But, her cousin, Sakura, also likes him, because they made some kind of a promise when they were little kids. Ok, this anime isn't one of the best ones there are. A bit perverted (Especially Asakura XD), but I guess I don't mind that. It's a bit boring, barey any parts where you laugh. But that doesn't seem like the whole point of the anime. Well, it seems like a copy of Love Hina, Tenchi Muyo and a bunch of other animes where a bunch of girls like one guy. But this anime seems more peaceful, compared to the others. If that's not surprising enough, they go deep into suspense near the end. It gets really intense once the romance themes shows up again. Da Capo was overall an enjoyable watch, but I found the side stories were pointless. They didn't even help with character development.
