Ikkitousen can be considered as a crappier version of Tenjou Tenge. Both are fan-service filled fighting anime. But the resemblance ends at this point. Whilst Tenjou Tenge upsets the trend of eichi anime by actually being GOOD (yep, you heard me correctly), Ikkitousen came off as a more typical offering of this type by letting the fanservice get in the way of everything else. In fact, Ikkitousen is so overflowing with fanservice that it's probably the closest you can get to a Hentai anime without actually becoming a Hentai anime.

The concept behind Ikkitousen is rather bizarre. Basically, people who were involved in the Three Kingdoms era (one of the most illustrious periods from ancient Chinese history) are being reincarnated as school girls from different schools. These girls all have a thirst for battle (predictably), and so the battles from the Three Kingdoms era are now played out between these people from various schools (each school is supposed to represent a Kingdom I think). It's a bit like an anime about delinquents with a twist, except all the characters are girls (in order to provide fanservice, of course). By now, you've probably fallen off your chair laughing at this utterly ridiculous concept, but you'd be surprised to know it didn't turn out to be a complete disaster... but not for the reason you might think. The reason had to less to do with competent story development and more to do with the fact that, between all the eicchi and fighting, there's not really much room left to expand on its farcical ideas. It was content to just sit around and give the occasional two-sentence narration of how the current event is linked to what
went on in the Three Kingdoms era. Though I'm vaguely aware of some parts of the Three Kingdom's history, I won't pretend I'm an expert, not by any stretch of the imagination. Armed with my primitive knowledge, the narration helped me to understand... virtually none of the story. Of course, it doesn't help that they're referring to those famous historical figures by their names translated into Japanese, but still, I can just imagine how lost someone would feel coming into this anime with little or no knowledge about that part of Chinese history. On the
other hand, not developing the storyline can probably be considered to be a blessing in disguise. The concept was absurd enough as it is, god knows how it could have turned out if they actually tried to producing something from it.

As it stands, the anime ditched most of the story in favour of the eichi factor and the action. The action sequences were quite awesome at times, especially when you compare it against other anime of similar genre (such as Variable Geo) and see how sucky they are. However, the fanservice factor was just a plain nuisance. Its presence was so strong that it tramples over everything else that's going on, distracting you at the most inappropriate moments. It really needs to take a leaf out of Tenjou Tenge's book and see how to provide fanservice without disupting the viewer from other aspects such as action and story. And while it's at it, it may as well learn a thing or two about proper plot development too!

Other than a handful of great fights, this anime has very little else to offer. If you're after an anime of this particular genre, I would point you in the direction of Tenjou Tenge... unless the eichi is primarily what you're looking for.

A great idea, that suffers from a less than perfect execution. The basic plot idea is wonderful, and the attention to the animation solid, but failures in developing the story, and an over reliance on fanservice ended up becoming a distraction and I lowered my overall grade accordingly.

"With their flesh and blood, the students battle. This war is being waged in Kanto. Famous high schools are struggling for supremacy in a battle to conquer all territories. They are all strong warriors who have inherited the eternal fate that has been handed down for over 1800 years. People call them fighters"

So yeah, Ikkitousen is all about fighting... and ecchi, lots of it. The fact is, Ikkitousen has so much ecchi that it unlike in Tenjou Tenge easily distracts you from any serious fight... if there were any serious fights that is. To tell you the truth, besides a vast amount of ecchi this show has little else to offer. Fights are not really spectacular or blood boiling, story, while influenced by some chinese legends, falls apart pretty quickly, also some of the show's characters are annoying to the ridiculous level.

Unless you are a vivid fan of ecchi you should definitely overlook this show. Even if you are dying to see something where people would be beating each other, anime world is full of other, finer examples of such shows. Ikkitousen comes with lowest recommendations even for the fighting fans.

Awww, not many people have any love for this series. I guess in all honesty, I haven't found very anime I do dislike though. But on to the review...

Crash Review:
Basically its an anime that actually adheres pretty ridgedly to its plotline (although the plot is mediocre at best). The fighting quality isn't really that great, but to their credit they didn't reuse fighting frames over and over and actually show a fair amount of attack diversity during the series. The animation itself is really well drawn. The soundtrack is pretty good. I loved the intro song as well. Character quality....meh, they were ok, although not a whole lot of elements to them. Some characters seemed to be generated strictly for a fan-service relationship (i.e. Kanu). It has some fairly memorable characters though, and one of my all time favs, Kane, so I can't completely dump its character stats.

Can be pretty humurous at parts. If you don't have anything better to do I reccomend giving it a go, you might like it!

Ikkitousen is the story of Sonsaku Hakafu and her cousin Syuyu Koukin. Hakafu and her aunt Goei move in to Koukin's place. Hakafu is sent to Koukin's school. There's a war going on, based on the ancient Chinese war of the three kingdoms. Everyone has a talisman that supposedly contains the spirit of a warrior from the Three Kingdoms era. These teenagers are "destined" to fight it out as those warriors did long ago.
It would really overload the server if I completely explained everything.

I started watching this anime because I was walking at a trade show and saw a figure (Kano by Yamato) that I just had to buy. I picked up the anime shortly after and was mildly surprised. The premise is this: these high schoolers inherit the fate and soul of fighters from the 3 kingdoms stories. They fight it out for supremacy between 7 schools to gain "land" similar to the Romancing the 3 Kingdoms. I wont get into who is who but if you've read the books or played Dynasty Warriors, you'll catch on quick.

The animation is decent and its panty shots galore for all the scenes. Its not too distracting but it does give this anime a light hearted feeling. The fights aren't animated as well as it could have but it gets the job done.

The main character could possibly be the most air headed lead character ever. The other characters play their support roles well though which leads me to thinking that it could have been better if one of them were the focus.

I'd recommend to rent some episodes before buying to see if its your cup of tea. For me, the toys sold me on the series but it was a shame that the coolest character, Kano, was in it for only 1 episode.

Uhh this isn't good at all. I thought to myself whats the point of this. Then I realized it. its a panty fetish anime disguised as a fighting and action anime. I got bored with this farely quickly because after i saw about the 50th panty shot you realize whom the audience is aimed at. Only watch it if you have a panty fetish.

Animation - Actually very good cnsidering everything else was below average.

Sound - The music to the opening theme was a little below average. The background music in the series didn't fit the mood especially in the extreme fights. The voices in both language I couldn't stand it sounded so annoying. But they fit the character.

Story - The story was dissapointing, I thought it would be a lot better than what it came out to be. Its supposdly suppose to be based on a Japanese legend "Three Kingdoms" but it was just plain embarrasing. The sory happened to be all over the place with random fight scenes.

Character - There is no charactern depth at all not even with the main character. There is really no character background. Some of them just dissapear from the whole series without coming back without explanation. Basically no developement andno personality what-so-ever.

Enjoyment - Only good for a few episodes

Value - Not very likely to rewatch. It has a very chap price though which is good because I consider this garbage.

Ikkitousen is a pointless crappy school fighting anime worse than Tenjou Tenge and about on par with Airmaster. We have your main female character who is supposed to be some legendary super fighter character whose power is projected to the viewer only through reliance on dialogue by side characters watching the fights and not actual action on the screen. We have some fighting tournament in the middle of the series, which seems to be an endlessly used formula in all fighting animes.

As for overall presentation, this anime is the opposite of "show not tell", which makes this anime really boring to watch, even as a fighting anime with supposed fighting scenes. The creators of this anime were extremely lazy in portraying the fight scenes, except for the key elements, they left out a lot of the fluid fighting scenes. You'd expect something interesting in the fights but plagued with useless panty shots that ruin the fighting mood, Ikkitousen is a fighting anime that doesn't hurt you if you miss out on it.

There are many parallels between this anime and Tenjou Tenge and I can't help but to compare them. However, this one is truly inferior to Tenjou Tenge in all aspects (especially the story). Storyline, character personalities, villains, good guys, animation style, fight choreography, originality, character design, music, overall flow and pacing, even the level of fan service was a bit excessive for its kind. I kind of had high hopes for this fighting anime from all the references I've heard about it, and was thoroughly disappointed in the end. This anime consists of 35% panty shots, 15% boob bouncing, 15% boob cleavages, 25% stupid girl, and 10% fighting/everything else.

I wasn't overly impressed by Ikkitousen, as it does not have much depth in the story or to the characters.

But, it's an enjoyable fighting anime that's pretty short, so I'd recommend viewing it if you've nothing else at the moment and wouldn't mind an action anime with good fighting sequences.

What a deep, philosophical series about destiny, with a serious plot involving linking to historical people and gratuitous panty shots.

...panty shots?

Gah... sorry, I could not keep that up. Disregard everything I said in the first paragraph except panty shots. Yes, it does talk alot about fates and destinies of warriors from long ago. And yes, it does have plenty of fighting, loyality, back-stabbing, brainwashing, and other neat elements in the plot, but to really enjoy this series, the hell with those. Forget all of the links to the 3 Kingdoms or anything related to history. Let go of silly things like logic and rationality.

Just watch it for the girls. Ok, it would help if you enjoy panty shots and large-breasted girls. And if you enjoy seeing their clothes ripped apart like tissue in every fight. EVERY FIGHT... And don't forget the always necessary pool and hot spring episodes! And surprisingly, this series actually gets into sexual tension and activity, though nothing naughty is actually shown. _Ikkitousen_ is not hentai, but it actually goes a bit further than just panty shots and near-toplessness (several scenes involving Ryofu quickly come (hehehehehe) to mind...)...

Ok, so maybe the storyline itself could be enjoyed on its own. It is surprisingly original and well-paced, though it might end poorly for some viewers. The fights are rather ridiculous, but are fun to watch (and that's outside of the panty shots and clothes ripping).

So, in the end, I only recommend Ikkitousen if you enjoy heavy ecchi and ridiculous fighting. Fortunately, there's no loli ecchi (YAY FOR NON-LOLI ECCHI!), and any sexual situation is, while not tastefully, done in a way that doesn't show anything really naughty. Some viewers might be pulled into the storyline late in the series when it tries to get serious (without letting up on the fan-service...). Also, be sure you can stomach some violence; blood does flow freely in this series.

I'll not deny that this is the worst fighting anime ever. But BOY, is this anime entertaining!!

So instead of rating it by its downfalls, I'm going to rate if based on its merits.

Animation wise, graphics are clean and vibrant. Some cool stances, some cool character design(Hell, even one of the admin has got one of the girl as an avatar). Only complaint was hakufu and her tongue!! Euugh..

Sound? Not bad. We've got a wide variety of seiyuu here, from plain dumb to dead serious.

Story wise,... there's almost none. It's about students from different schools fighting each other, in order to get some jade dragon thingy that represents power and authority. Hey wait, most anime in this genre also uses the same lame plot line! I've taken a few points away because of the rushed ending. That's right, although I did enjoy the simple story line, the ending was just abrupt, and was quite disappointing. It turns out that the makers wanted to throw in a twist or two in the ending...useless attempt.

Characters? I love hakufu's idiocy, Moe-chan's(?) determination, and that green-haired girl's weird personality. Of course, there're a variety of guy characters as well, though they weren't given the chance to shine.

Value and Enjoyment? I think I've read some ad saying something like "wherever the [author] was able to put in a pantyshot, it's there". As disturbing it was when I started watching, your mind'll just tune it out (if you're anything like me :( ), and enjoy the anime.

Is it just me or fighting genre anime are getting sucks nowaday, first tenjou tenge, now this?

To begin, let me start with the characters, this may be rude but I got impression that most of the female characters here especially the main characters act like b******, just take a look at hakufu, she doesn't even bothered (or realize) when a few punks approach her and try to touch her body, she just act happily like she like it (before they got kicked by her friends), and like the rest of the female characters she doesn't embarassed or blushed at all when the enemy torn her clothes with almost nothing to wear, I say even hentai characters have more dignity than her or the rest of the characters.

And for the scene, almost every fighting/non fighting scene here are more suggestive to hentai than anything else, and altough it's concealed by poor act, the way the female characters treated after got beaten almost resembles a rape scene except they replace it by "only" licking their body or undress the panties (did I forgot to mention the lesbian part?).

The story, while just a plain school street fighter act trying to win the tournament, they add romance of the three kingdom story in it..., now this might be interesting, but in the end it's nothing more like a degradation of the already great war story and it didn't resemble anything with romance of three kingdom.

if this is a hentai series, then I might valued it higher, but since it's a normal anime series, it sucks to the bottom that I won't recommend it to anyone but those who seeks ecchi / almost hentai scene ( and it will be better if they made it as it is ^_^' ), I truly dissapointed at J.C Staff since they usually made good quality anime.

Ikkitousen was a decent comedy anime for the most part. The story which is based on actual history could have been good. However it was totally butchered. There just seems to be random nonsensical dialogue in between the fights. Despite this gripe story wise, I must say this does not detract from the show at all. Hakufu is also one of the best, and dummest main characters ever. If you want to know more read my review.

Ikkitousen is the story of seven schools who are at war with each other. The fighters each possess a jewel know as a Magatama, relics from the Sangokushi period that guides their fate with that of ancient warriors. Sonsaku Hakufu, a ditsy girl who loves fighting, has recently moved to Japan. Said to have the fate of the junior lord of lords, she may be the one to unite the schools.

Ikkitousen's a high energy, character driven brawler with a surprisingly good plot and an Agent Aika fan service style. Yes, that means panty shots every few seconds and half naked girls throughout. But what you have to understand, and what J.C. Staff obvious gets, is the camp and humor value. Tenjou Tenge was a poor attempt, while Ikkitousen had me laughing through every episode. Hakafu's shirt explodes on contact so many times throughout the series that I was rolling with laughter by the end. Not just the fan service, but the lines are funny as heck.

Make no mistake though that Ikkitousen is on the mature side of things. Aside from the constant panty shots joke, the show has some non-explicit nudity and sex. It's ecchi, not hentai, but it's not for the younger crowds regardless. It's great that J.C. Staff was willing to bring their characters to life and give them real passions, rather than the lifeless digital dolls of Tenjou Tenge. I always love to see a series made with the fans in mind and willing to push the fan service further.

So with all the ecchiness and comedy, you wouldn't think it'd have much of a story. But while the whole schoolyard fighter thing is nothing new, intertwining these fighters' fates with that of ancient warriors seems pretty original to me. The characters have much more depth than you'd imagine, and the show has a lot of great plot twists that keep it interesting. I really enjoyed the story, and the short length of the series gives it a great pacing.

Even the op/ed songs are great, especially the highly stylish club opening animation and song. It really shows they're willing to take themselves lightly and shows the characters in another light. The characters really are the main draw, funny, entertaining, cute, sexy, surprising and cool all around. There's really nothing not to like with this series. It accomplishes everything it sets out to be, and if this is your genre then it's hard to go wrong.

The animation for Ikkitousen is pretty good quality. Also is like a typical anime with lots of hentai parts and close-up too. The sound of the anime is pretty good. The opening song really matched the speed of the anime, in how everything is short and right to the point. It was also kind of catchy.

The story is basically about fighters and destiny. In how some parts of the history repeats itself and how you have the ability to choose a different path to stop history from repeating. The characters name are based on the “Three kingdom story. The used the famouse generals’ names who were known for their tactics, tragedies, deaths, and survival. This made the characters’ interesting with their own personality. However, in some cases the personality was not 100% according to the general like in the case of Hakufu.

Overall, I enjoyed watching the anime because there wasn’t any boring moment. I also enjoyed the fight scenes. I totally recommend it to everyone because is really entertaining because of the humor in it.

Not an overall bad anime to watch and pass the time. The plot, going back and forth between the three kingdoms and present day got rather confusing at times and detracts from the overall enjoyment of the show. The series would have been better if it tried to pave it's own way/plot out rather than try to incorporates elements from the three kingdoms.

The Opening theme is catchy but rather annoying. I just had to detect points, not for the fact that there was rapping in japanese but because in order to rhyme they incorporated english into it. Rap in english, rap in japanese, just stick to one language please!
