Gunslinger girl is an anime that should be appreciated not only for the outstanding animation, but for the unique and heartwarming storyline. Among all the bullets and bloodshed is a tale of honor, love and undying devotion, "If only they weren't cyborgs".

Gunslinger girl starts off really promising action wise in the begining but the action almost disappers after that.

The characters are well developed and the interaction between the girls and their handlers are good. The sound, animation and value of this anime is very high.

The only real problem was the lack of action over long periods of time. That first scene really gets you ready for top notch action scenes but they're mostly mediocre. But all in all I say everyone should give it a shot.

I really liked this anime mostly because it was short. It didn’t really have much for a plot but the idea of the anime was pretty cool. They could have done so much more with this anime, but once again it was really short so not a big waste of my time.

Girls with guns is always a popular theme, but in this case the writers went a new route and the girls are all cyborgs created from 9-12 year old girls and they are paired with adult male handlers. The animation is good and the story solid, if a bit rushed as the series only goes 13 episodes. Definitely one of the better series available.

Funny story... I expected Gunslinger Girl to take place in a future dystopia and have mostly bloodshed battles in tight places like a video game. Didn't have to throw that out the window. Gunslinger Girl is an anime true to its synopsis and more. Instead of some Matrix-like world I was envisioning, it more reminds me of Counter Strike, especially the cs_italy map.

But yes, GSG truly is more than meets the eye. Behind the cold, innocent faces of the promo poster are girls who are more than just faceless cyborgs with trace personalities. Their whole world is blown up and revealed in heartwarming/wrenching tales as they go around Italy evicting terrorist hideouts while experiencing organization complications within. Bound by their conditioners, these girls must go through a life restricted by the implants that gave them a second chance from fate and fulfill their duty to the world, as the hidden agendas of the world of justice. Though something like this couldn't REALLY exist in the real world, GSG lets us glimpse at the relationships and hardships an organization such has, just in case there really is one some time in the future.

Animation: I believe that animation was outstanding. The surroundings were detailed, the variety of color mixture and good shadow/light interaction is seen throughout all of the episodes.
Sound: It could have been better by giving at some places more grandioso effect or simultaniosly interchanging in speakers to create better spacial visulation. Also there was an episde where a man seemed to talk in woman's voice. I was not sure if it was supposed to be some kind of transvestite it was a woman that to ME looked like a man. Overall, sound was good.
Story: it was original. Not much oriented toward some kind of goal, like catching the notorious criminal or etc. like other typical animes do, but it gave a feeling of the life these people lead: coldblooded shootings, desire for love, hapiness, normal life. It was a good story. The only thing that I missed was a bit more serious actions of the "bad guys."
Character: people were depicted in a very realistic manner: they all had both good and bad personality traits. Their own goals, desires and ways to interact with others that resulted in different consequences.
Value: I'd like to have it in my collection, but probably I would not re-watch it again.
Enjoyment: I was really looking forward to the consequent episodes. Somehow this anime tied me up to the plot although it's neither funny, nor meladramatic, nor its of Super-original plot.

Gunslinger Girl is a 13 episode anime made in 2003 with a very powerful setting and storyline, in addition to being impressive in every other way.

The animation and graphics of Gunslinger Girl is very detailed and smooth. As the anime is set in Italy, the scenery shown are extremely accurate to the real life scenes. Graphical and animation errors are very rare, although the character designs could have used some additional differences as it is difficult to distinguish between characters at times.

The opening theme of Gunslinger Girl fits surprisingly well with the anime from start to finish. It reflects the mentality of the characters, and can almost bring a tear to the viewer in later episodes. The voice acting is top quality, although maybe a bit exaggerated. The only major gripe is that the occasional background music fails to bring out the excitement of the scenes.

Gunslinger Girl might appear to be an action anime, but the actual storyline is much deeper and delves deeply into the mentality of the individual characters. As an action anime, Gunslinger Girls falls below average, with a storyline that lacks excitement at times, an ending that does not conclude very well, and action sequences that are very brief. As a drama, it excels in almost every way. It develops very well given its length, and is extremely emotional at times.

The storyline of Gunslinger Girl would not have been possible without its cast. Although some personalities and differences between the various characters might appear exaggerated, the choice of cast is almost perfect, and the character development is highly impressive. Complemented with the excellent voice acting, the characters are definitely the defining attribute in Gunslinger Girl.

There is no doubt that Gunslinger Girl will stir up emotions in many of its viewers. Gunslinger Girls is a drama, and not an action anime. However, I have personally enjoyed this anime much more than I had at first anticipated, and I am sure most people will agree.

An unexpected story about the lives of several girls trained up to be government assassins makes this quite a hit for watchers.

Gunslinger Girls is an interesting one in that the series is about the characters themselves, from Henrietta, to Elsa, the girls has to deal with their emotions, their work and their handler. Its an interesting direction that delivers, as there is much to say about the morality of the issue of using girls, cyborgs, etc.

If characters was the Gunslinger Girls biggest asset, then i guess story is where it gets hit heavily, no underlying plot, with many mini-stories that are very loosely connected makes up the series. But then again, the series is about the characters, not the action, story, plot or anything else really.

Overall, Gunslinger Girls shines with the characters, how the girls deal with their handlers, themselves and their mission is important, though it may have a few boring episodes, this is a very rewarding series in the end.

8/10

Is a person who has no memory of himself, no memory of society and no memory of any teachings still a full-fledged human being? What if he is trained in the art of killing from the very time he was "reborn", what if killing other people for this person is as trivial as for us going to get a drink? What if this person is just a young girl? Is it still correct to call her human, or is she just a tool of killing after all?

This show has both pleasantly surprised and displeased me. The moral question of this show is definitely very original and hard to answer. Unfortunately, after I've finished watching the first few episodes of the show I've realized that the question wont have a real answer, as the more the show goes on the harder it becomes to answer. In the end this show comes up with a great moral problem, but it's the only thing it does. While of course you could speculate that the viewer should find an answer himself I still find the show slightly inconclusive when the creator of the anime retains neutral position at the problem he thought out himself. It's one of the few shows I thought was supposed to be longer, but wasn't. :/

If you're looking for an action show with guts flying around and sexy girl assassins shooting at stuff you are at the wrong doorstep. On the other hand if you feel like you're up for some light thinking you should give this show a shot. It's not that great, but in a sense it's pretty good.

This anime is highly complex and original. Instead of developing characters a little bit by bit over the series it develops much of their personality over 2-3 episodes and moves on to the next girl. The anime seemed to me more like compiled character bios, albeit extremely deep and emotional character bios. The only bad thing about this anime is at the beginning you'd think it would be full of action-tactics assassinations but your wrong haha. Its all about developing the girls and whats more frustrating they only really significantly develop once and the anime doesnt really build on what happens next.
Must watch if not for the emotional complexity for the amazing animation.

Gunslinger Girl is an anime which one tends to confuse with an anime with swashbuckling girls in skimpy outfits with guns and oomph. However this series is anything but. It is a mature show about a concept which has been often used in Hollywood movies. The concept of using children at young age and giving them training (physically and psychologically) to make a perfect soldier is something which has been used in many movies (and some TV series). Gunslinger Girl is also one of them - but it has something which sets it apart from the rest. It has characters which make you think and feel for them. And this is the highlight of the show. For plot oriented lovers, this show will be something like a question mark.

As the first episode begins, the viewer is introduced to enchanting animation and eerily soothing Italian-themed music. Unfortunately, the series does not move much from this point.

"Gunslinger Girl" is an anime series that teases viewers with the possibility of the beginning of a captivating story but instead concludes each of its 13 episodes with the theme of the protagonists' hopelessness and despair.

What is most frustrating about the series is that "Gunslinger Girl" provides a foundation to an extremely interesting storyline. There is obvious humane depth in each of the protagonist girls even during the inhumane acts they commit. Their affectionate and disconnected relationships with their partners also adds another element to the story. These two aspects along with the painstakingly gradual unveiling of the girls' pasts’ gives the viewer an eager anticipation for the future when they may solve their internal swirling conflicts. Unfortunately, nothing is resolved as none of the characters evolve, the story doesn't move, and by the end of the series, everyone returns to their original situation (not that much was altered to begin with).

Overall, when I finished watching the series, I felt like I wasted a few hours of my life. "Gunslinger Girl" might be a good case study for what to do right when it comes to art, music and even the foundation for a story, but without an actual story itself, not even the skills of Michelangelo and Beethoven can save this anime.

On an ending note, this series also loses a lot of its value because of its crappy name. What the hell is gunslinger girl!? The name might not mean much, especially when originally catered around in a country when the title is in a foreign and exotic language, but when it comes into view of people who actually speak the designated language, it's annoying as hell. Yet another attempt by Asians to try to seem more westernized using Engrish and failing miserably.

Gunslinger Girl is one of the few animes that actually makes good use of an underlying plot. It may seem that on the surface, there is no plot, or that the plot is minimal, but in fact, the plot is there; it finds itself however, buried under a weak theme and characterization, so it only shows itself if you look for it.

The storytelling technique that Gunslinger Girl utilizes is decent. The anime shows how five young girls face both physical and mental disintegration while battling with guns while battling for affection. So what does it contribute to us as viewers? Sadly, nothing much. Although there is substance in its presentation, Gunslinger Girl strives to broadcast a message that is confusing and unclear. Are we taking life for granted? How can love and violence be balanced in such a life? Apparently, Gunslinger Girl knows all the answers but never fully discloses them to us.

The animation is crisp but unimaginative, while the sound doesn't do much but keep up with the unexciting animation. The strong point of the series lies in its grasp over the watcher. Of course, we're sad when the ending credits roll by on the last episode, but what does that do for us? I'm not sure; I'm still confused by the awkward progression of the story, and I'm not any more knowledgeable than I was thirteen episodes ago. What a waste of an emotional investment.

It's one part enlightenment, ten parts entertainment and a hundred parts perturbation. If that's good enough for you, then by all means, enjoy yourself.

Gunslinger girl is an interesting anime. It's got beautiful animation and sound but there is no plot to speak of- just a premise. The characters carry the entire show. If you saw the trailer for the anime and thought it would be Matrix style action-packed, violent, adrenaline pumping show, you will be disappointed. There is one or two very short action sequences. The rest is people running their daily lives- from making tea to hanging out washing. If this is not your thing, I urge you to watch something else.

Cyborg girls shooting at other people first might sound a bit dumb, but this is by far one of the most facinating anime I've ever seen.

the most incredible thing about the Gunslinger Girl is the depiction of relationships between the girls and their supervisors. Each pair has a different dynamics between them that really reveal so much emotions. Some of the supervisors will only use the girls as tools while other will give them affection. Others are even afraid to give affection while some just don't know how to be a good supervisor. The girls are diverse themselves. Some of them are jealous, some of them are desperate, and some are rebellious.

The most creepy thing about this whole thing is that the girls know the only have short life to live and will have to kill while they are alive. Due to brainwashing some of them don't really care and some of them do. Throughout the whole anime there is so much desperation in these girls to be loved and to love back. The short life they have they have nothing but their supervisors to cling on to. While some will be ravaged by the coldness of their supervisors, some will find a bit of happiness in kindness.

The supervisors in turn are also interesting. They are put into a situation where they are working with non-humans who act just like one. And they are little girls no less. How should they treat them?

In all these relationships there really is something brutal about them. Non of them seem to fit totally into their role. they are not comfortable with what they are doing, but they all still follow what they think is the best thing for the job, for themselves, and for sometimes for their partners. I would really have to give the script writer a lot of credit for this. they did fantastic job of creating meaning dialogues that convey the thoughts of this message well.

But I have to say I was expecting more gunslinging. This anime is essentially drama, not action. There really isn't all that much kicking ass. What really is the problem are the still shots. there are too many moody still shots that eat up air time. They could've better managaed their scene to perhap lengthen their action scenes and sort in order to put a lot more punch in this anime.

animation is very stylish and well designed. Action scenes were not much more then flares and some drops of blood, but the anime as a whole had a wonderful look. Gun designs were very good and character designs were also very well done. Music is a nice addition as well. More then OP and ED it is the background music that really sets the tone of this anime right. Oh, I would liked Moon Light sonata or Beethoven's Pathetique rather than 9th symphony (Ode to Joy)...

As a whole this anime really is brilliant. Character relationship cannot be more complex and interesting. There is plenty to be thought about here. But it's lack of driving plot line and kick ass scenes make the anime move a little bit too slow. If you are expecting action I'm sure you would be turned away by this, but to all who love serious drama this would be a must pick up.

Gunslinger Girl caused a bit of an uproar due to it's content - little adolescent girls being used as government assasins. I approached this anime with something of an open mind, though ... and I'm glad I did.

Despite what the title may suggest, this anime's focus is not on the action scenes, but leans heavily in the direction of character development. Even though for the most part it focuses on Henrietta and Jose ... the other girls each have at least one episode that highlights their personalities and the relationships they have with their handlers.

The series also explores the contrast inherent with these girls very well ... the tagline says it best - The girl has a mechanical body. But she is still an adolescent child. This is the cornerstone of the series ... they are experiencing all the emotional ups and downs that come along with being a teenager ...

I found this series impressive, both in terms of action and emotional content. From reading the description, I thought it was either going to be about depression/emotional trauma or some thing kinda perverted, but from the beginning, it went in a completely different direction.
