I suppose I wasn't expecting much from this series, but I was proved wrong. Though it is not a milestone, redefining style series, it proved to be very moving and emotional. Not only that, but the continuing mysteries presented throughout the episodes motivated me to continue watching to solve them. I loved the character development throughout the series.

A anime that starts out very interesting but dies quickly. As a harem story it had an interesting plot. Kazuki a loser who can only use magic eights times suddenly becomes popular with girls. Well the girls are after him because he contains the most powerful genes of all time. I thought this was funny, but then the way how the story went was bad. Now this is a harem story with school life magic, and some ecchi. However this can't be called a comedy because it really doesn't have many moments that just make you laugh.

Even though the story was predictable (except the ending) I did enjoy this anime until it reached to the last 4 episodes. The last episode was the BIGGEST disappointment of all. I mean they just came up with some more problems out of nowhere, which was ruining the story. Well this story is somewhat your typical harem story with that one special guy being a lucky bastard. At least he isn't entirely clueless. And we have three girls who are attached to him the most. So for those harem story lovers this is a spot to stop. With lots of magic!

Another Harem anime that actually has a story and brings a level of enjoyment to the viewer. Could do with having a male character who is easier to like, but this series proved to be hard to dislike.

My god... this anime was awful. I feel it stole precious hours of my life. So why did I end up watching the whole thing? I guess it was because of a futile hope of it picking up and possibly becoming better as it went along.. but it indeed was garbage all the way through. I would not recommend this anime to anyone, even fans of comedy harem anime. Hell, ESPECIALLY to fans of comedy harem anime as Maburaho will end up leaving a bad taste in your mouth (and you would be lucky to escape with just that). Read my extensive review to find out why.

The best and most unique harem anime out there, Maburaho puts anime like Ai Yori Aoshi and Love Hina to shame. This is because, unlike those two anime, this anime actually has a plot, and a premise for the "harem" aspect.

The animation isn't too great; especially the 2D backgrounds. The magic is ok, but pretty much every piece of magic looks similar. The character models are alright though.

The sound isn't anything special. The background sounds are ok, the magical sounds, etc. The OP/EDs arn't that good or memorable, and Shikimori, the male lead, sounds like he is 10 years old instead of 17.

The story is surprisingly interesting. Unlike most harem animes, there is a flowing plot that every episode will tie into, and unlike Love Hina and Ai Yori Aoshi, whose episodes are pretty random and seem to connect only very loosely, Maburaho actually flows from episode to episode. The magic angle is really interesting and sets it apart from other anime. Also, there are a few unexpected plot twists that will surprise anyone, including myself, who came into the anime not expecting much plot development. The ending is especially surprising.

The characters are, while a bit generic (stoic female swordsman; outgoing, busty and perverted older classmate; and extremely jealous girlfriend) all interesting and have their own motivations. Also, character growth actually occurs in this series, which also seperates it from other harem anime. The relationships between the main character and each of the girls is also interesting to see develop as they start to like him for more than his genes.

For those interested in harem/comedic anime I would say this is the best I have watched. I enjoyed this anime more than the average anime.

maburaho is not just your plain old harem its much beter .maburaho is funny sexy and filled with beutiful girls.maburaho is very funny but only if you like eechii comedy if you do then youll enjoy it.

animation- the animation could have been much better but,it was not bad it was good that all the girls were drawn cute and that thge school and scenario was grawn good .but there were some instances were the animation was of at times.

sound- the voice actors for this series were good i favored yunas voice over the rest and then kirikas and finally rins.
the oppening wass upbeat an dsome what hyper but it was all good.

story- the story is very eechii and it revolves a boy who had a very strong and powerful bloodline of magicians but he can only use magic seven times beforwe he dies. so basically our three main female characters want to whoo and get the genes of kazuki so they can have a powerful baby.yes it sounds insane but it works out to be pretty originol for a harem anime.

characters-the characters somewhat reminded me of love hinas cast . there was yuuna who wants to marry him and is maybe the only one who truly loves him. kirioka who wants to get in his pance so she can have a powerful offspring and rin who wants to kill himn.

enjoyment- i liked it and im sure any eechii/harem fan wil to. its not as dirty as it sounds even thoiugh its pretty naughty.

avoid this anime at all costs, disgrace to anime just like love hina, another crappy harem.

There's nothing special or unique about this anime and it's just a bunch of recycled anime cliches/steroetypes.

if you want REAL comedy watch akazukin cha cha or battle athletes victory!
or REAL romance watch kare kano or full moon

Gorgeous animation, and girls. The usual harem with many beauties fawning over an unassuming guy (he even describes himself as such). However, the guy does have powerful magical ancestors, so the premise is that the girls want his genes; the magic sort of skipped a generation in his case. So it's somewhat realistic that girls would desire him in spite of his demeanor, like a guy with a trust fund.

The guy starts off with only a little magic and is supposed to turn into dust if he uses it all up. One by one his lives diminish in various situations. It turns out that his magic is surprisingly powerful, so it's fun watching his super feats. The series includes some twists and turns and generally makes some progress with each episode, with good character development along the way. There's a nice set of characters and voice acting, and there are many unique personalities, plus a mild villain here and there.

I didn't enjoy the opening or ending songs much, and the music within the eps was so so. A feel good series, recommended for harem/comedy fans, also ecchi. Decent romance too, but nothing serious. One busty, sultry blonde girl; one serious samurai type; and one overprotective type. Fun to see the interactions between them all.

Just finished, so some closing comments: dramatic climax, and the ending somehow managed to maintain the feel good aura. Usually harems are a little sad when the guy finally has to choose, but this one is unique!

Maburaho is a the story of a young magician named Kazuki. Only permitted to use magic 8 times initally, three women come into his life. There's Yuuna, a childhood friend and the generic obscenely cheerful girl; Rin, a serious young swordswoman who likes to dress in shrine maiden clothing; then there's Kuriko, the generic rich spoiled girl who always "gets what she wants." All want Kazuki to love them, but invariably, they force Kazuki to use his magic to save them. To a lesser extent, the ghost girl Elizabeth loves Kazuki as well.

Wow, the only good point of this anime was the animation, but then again all recent anime series look just about the same anyway in terms of quality.

With the best part of the series aside, this is where the series starts to go downhill --- fast.

The sound was nothing memorable. Same old, same old.

The story started out relatively interesting and it started killing itself after ep 1. The rest of the series deals with how the main character deal witih the affection of a bunch of girls after his genes. It gets old very very fast. It feels like they are forcing him against his will and it's no fun to watch him trying to avoid them for the next 20 something eps.

The female characters are just there for fan service. They are as cliche as they get. The childhood friend with a caring heart, the aggressive one, the girl with the sword (tm)

I hope no one makes the mistake of picking up this title nor would I think anyone should rewatch it.

Firstly, let me just say, if you liked this anime, then check out all the Tenchi series, in my opinion, it’s far better and has a lot of similarities.

This was an average anime, and by that, I mean it’s below average because it’s just another average anime out there. I was recently very bored, so I decided to finish watching this anime. I was quite disappointed for the most of it.

Animation was the best aspect of Maburaho, very colourful and vibrant, the characters are too.

Sound was good, but another case of under-usage, they had good music, but I didn’t think they capitalised on it enough to bring out the emotions.

Story-wise, there’s not much that’s new, maybe only this magic limit aspect, where everyone has a limited use of magic, which can be checked by a doctor.

In the end, this didn’t turn out to be anything, it wasn’t a comedy, a magic anime, drama was very fake and clichéd. Also, the repetition of stupid phrases really annoyed me. All in all, there’s so many animes out there that are outperform this in almost very sense. Certainly one that you can do without, unless you were bored, or just like a bit of ecchi.

I was highly disappointed with how Maburaho turned out. Possibly one of the most cliche harems you will ever see, besides the ridiculus story which is worse than most harems. I'm not sure however if these girls want the boy or if they want his genes. I think it's his genes. Apparently this dude (forgot his name because this anime is very forgettable) can only use magic eight times in his life, a girl appears in his house (cliche) and wants to marry him (overly cliche) then suddenly everyone wants to steal his genes? This can be described in 3 simple words, WTF?

The music is highly annoying, the opening theme is sung by some high pitched loser who is terribly out of tune and the ending is nothing but trash. At times I wanted to shove my head in the blender and chop off my ears while listening to it.

I really do not know what you people were thinking while giving the animation such a high rating. The way it's colored makes it look fairly old, as if they forgot that we were in the year 2000 and forgot there is actually advanced technology. Also, the character designs are not only cliche, but ugly. The main character is possibly the most ugly I have seen. All of boys in harem animes these days are losers, with pretty much the same distorted hair.

Characters like I said above are very ugly, and in the episodes I have seen there is nothing but the typical cliche character growth. Their personalities are- samurai girl (cliche), girl that wants to marry the main character (overly cliche) girl that beats up the main character (unbelievably cliche), typical hot girl that everyone likes (omg sooo cliche) and loser guy (the cliched core of harem anime). Thus, it gets a two.

Something even worse about Maburaho is that it is boring. Boring as heck. I think I died during this series and when it was finally over I came back to life. It made me want to... I dunno, eat a sandwich. Stay away from Maburaho.

It's Love Hina with magic.

Maburaho has the potential to be a truly great romance/drama story. Time and again the series brings you to the edge of the seat, genuinely with no idea how thing's will resolve.
However, the series is spoiled by persistent and over-the-top fanservice as well as filler episodes.
Despite all this the series' true qualities - its characters and the emotions between them shine through.

When there's a character collage in the intro, I automatically think "oh.... sh*******". Because, to me, this mishap means that the creators lack creativity, vision and design abilities. The series sucked, but at least I get the satisfaction of knowing that the prediction was correct.

Where to even begin... The story premises actually has the possibility of leading to some interesting results. Some kid can use magic eight times in his life, after which he would turn into dust (and presumably die). It would be obvious to anybody that this is material for highly climatic scenes. Maybe some villain decides to send some nukes to flatten your country and you magic those nukes back up his ass. Or maybe Godzilla starts walking out of the ocean and you send him flying into the sun. Or heck, at least save a busload of kids from a terrorist bomb or something. But no, instead, the protagonist uses his magic on important issues like saving a damn lunch box. OMFG just reading that past line makes me want to bash my head through the monitor. I don't understand how the writer could've possibly graduated high school, much less earned the job he's doing right now (unless he got fired and is cleaning toilets, which, now that I think about it, is pretty likely). This is just the main example of a bigger problem. If you're expecting any logical story progression, immersion or style, you can forget it.

Next, there is so much bs coming from the characters that they make psycho ward patients look perfectly sane. The 3 main "bishoujo"s initially take to this loser for his genes. Obviously, they eventually like him for "who he is". But until then, you're treated to scenes whose drama falls somewhere between a Mickey Mouse cartoon and a fishing show. The support characters are also ridiculously ridiculous. Luckily, sometimes they're actually funny. Unluckily, most of the time they're not.

If you really want to watch a harem anime (not that they're bad; some are quite good), just go watch Tenchi Muyo. Not only are the characters much better, but the animation and sound are pretty much on the same level as Maburaho anyways.

Well, in all honesty I have yet to watch the harem genre religiously and consequently have yet to suffer from the bitterness that comes with dimishing returns.

Animantion wise, pretty, though I have been away from the the DVD player for the better part of the year. Though, realistically who the heck has pink or purple hair? The use of fanservice is annoying for me, but a plus to others so if you feel that this is a plus go for it now.

Sound wise, for me the music stuck in my head until I was able to get it out with a heavy dose of John Williams. It is somewhat catchy to say the least.

Story wise there is an attempt, commendable as it maybe, to create drama of sorts. The ending was either half baked or a brilliant deception to keep any potential fans happy. There are twist to be sure, but I will leave that for others to discover and praise/be-rate. For the 13 and up group, I'd say.

Characters were over proportioned and to be honest I have no need to be informed of any of their measurements. Still they were quite charming in habits and actions.

In terms of value and enjoyment, I may be a little too lenient since I saw the whole thing after watching Episode III. Perhaps, compared to that garbage Lucas called romance dialogue, Vader's sissy fit, and Jar Jar surviving, this seems like a boon. Still it was almost as enjoyable as watching Christiansen burn. If you like fanservice with a passion or just want a good laugh this fits the bill quite nicely.

-Cowards die many times before their deaths, but the valiant taste death but once

We've seen the same shounen "loser with hot girls" formula more than enough, and because there are so much it is hard to make an anime that standsout from the rest. this one is no different; this anime never breaks away from mediocrity.

As i watched this anime i felt as though i was watching something out of the late 1990's. The animation does not get any better than that of Love Hina and i really expected better.

The magic and little bit of action scene are not impressive either because only thing we see is bunch of stuff blowing up. I've seen better magic circles and better magic attacks than the ones in this anime.

The character designs are truly detached from reality. Drawing fancy and pretty chracter is ok and it can be good, but not when a girls breast is bigger than the biggest watermelon you can find. the hair style also was the most original. Nothing here is out of the ordinary.

The music also is not a stand out. i enjoy some sound effects they put ere and there but eventually it was overused thus not effective.

the initial subject of this anime has to be one of the most offensive as girls are trying to STEAL a guy's GENEs. If that's not sexist i don't know what is. I mean i like ai yori aoshi, and love hina. I also expect some sexists stuff in shounen anime, but truck load of girls trying to steal someone's genes? I really don't know about that.

The comedy fits right into the shounen formula as a loser gets blown up to pieces and beat up every other minute. I felt really bad for Kazuki who I think is the only guy who gets beat up more than Keitaro in Love Hina and Naru's mad punches.

also this anime have no consistency. All the characers in this anime basically knoes how to fly. But when a critical times comes they run. ... why would they do that? JUST FLY. if it was only once or twice i wouldn't mind at all. but it happens way too many times! and it's not just with flying. For some reason the characters just forget that they know how to use magic at the most critical moments.

But this anime is not deprived of its redeemable values.

What saves this anime is its attempt on drama. there's considerable intense drama at the half point of this anime and at the end. It was enough to keep me watching till the end. this anime starts slow picks it up at the half point. slows down again and picks it up in the end. I almost felt teased but they deserve mch credit for giving a shot at very good drama.

The side characters (mainly Rin, and Kuriko) receives considerable character development. That was a pleasant surprise because initially this anime starts off so formulaic. The best episodes in this anime are the one where these character receive much attention.

The incriminating subject of this anime also takes a seat back and let the real Romance take over. This was a VERY good thing because i would've stopped watching it if this weren't so. The romance is rather solid as the story progresses and romance for large part makes sense.

This anime isn't anything special. Thought it has many bad qualities it is not without any redeemable value. Watch this when you run out of better choice. I would recommend Love Hina, Chobits, and Midori no Hibi over this one. If you haven't seen those check those out first.

No really... This is a pro anime. A very interesting story with lots of twists and turns, along with amazing characters that are animated/drawn extremely well. After watching the whole series, i watched it again just for the fun.

Animation
Graphiclly... Maburaho is one of the best, for its time i mean, two years ago made it come at a great suprise how amazing the characters look. Each characters costume is unique along with their own animations, from ghosts flying to swords swinging. This has one of the best animations i've seen for 2003.

Sound
Japanese voice are are well preformed with great attitude and amazing value. The sound effects are well done with flying, magic and even sword sounds that are well put in. And also the soundtrack is light and i think involves a US Singer (but is put in insturmentally) Overall the sound in this anime is amazing, well preformed and captured.

Story
This is a well developed story but comes kind of short at the end opening up for a sequel but i doubt we will see. Kazuki is a magician who has a special gift that everyone wants, he then meets three young girls (four later on) who wish to enhariet his gift, some for power and some for love. This is a well thoughtout story with lots of twists and turns and even a few things that were not expected. This is a very intreging plot but could have filled in a few gaps.

Characters
A well thoughtout anime always has a good cast, this is one of those animes. This includes the main character Kazuki and three/four young laddies. Each characters has their own personality that is very unique but sometimes Sterotypical. One young girl has a sword and is very strong, another girl is the head of a giant organization and the other one is a typical young girl who can cook and take care of Kazuki. Each charater is well developed and there are lots.

Value
The anime lasts for 24 episodes and each one is a blast, action romance and drama is all good, though like i said before, the ending left many things unanswered. I really do hope they make a second season because i wish to watch it again.

Enjoyment
This was really fun to watch, if you like romance, drama and some action but mostly humor you will like this.
I love this anime and i'd watch it many times.

This anime started out with a bang. The first episode was so hilarious that I expected a near Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu level school comedy. However this anime dissapoint from that aspect and starts taking itself too seriously by adding sappiness to a lame storyline.

It should have stuck to solely being a comedy as it would have been fantastic that way. The only episodes I truly enjoyed were the ones which involved the schoolmates of the protagonists namely class 2-B. Those episodes made me split my guts full of laughter. However like I said with added dramatic sappy overtones the anime lost focus. I can't personally take a character's feelings seriously when her boobs are bigger than her body and she wears ridiculous cloths with her panties showing from nearly every position. Fanservice and drama do NOT go together. Fanservice and slapstick comedy DOES however go very nicely.

Inspite of being out of focus like I said the comedic aspects were good. If you can stand some sap in a show like this by all means go for it.
