Disappointing. After a good 13-episode first half (despite some filler eps), the second half of the series (totaling 25 episodes) went so far downhill and left me feeling so disappointed that I could not believe I was watching the same show. The intense fighting and strong language amongst the four traveling comrades becomes tedious. The strong premise outlined at the beginning of Episode 1 disappears as the story unfolds. Plot details are left hanging. What is the fate of the rival gang of four? So many questions were left unanswered at the end of the series, about the scrolls, the West, the bad guys, the mysterious woman. The last few episodes were nothing more than a drawn-out battle against one opponent. Totally pointless anime, and after such a strong beginning! This anime started out with great promise but was a huge time waster. I forced myself to watch the final episodes, as each one became more and more difficult to get through. They had the makings of a great anime; eight interesting main characters, (four main and four other good characters to round out the mix), good premise, and then ruined it with lousy story-telling and a plot that seemed strong in the beginning but lost steam about the middle of the series and ended up meandering around and going nowhere. Not recommended.

WOW! what a bloody let-down. I was looking forward to finally getting to see more Saiyuki and following the guys on their journey west and what I got was a pointless load of rubbish that did nothing to further the story and all it managed to do was introduce a slight twist to the main storyline, but considering it was in regards to one of the most uncharasmatic characters in the whole show, I'm not sure I even care *lol*

The animation is way below the standards of the TV series, the music was horrid (except I.D.) and the monster busting action was lame-o.

Basically if you are desperate to see more of the guys, watch this, otherwise it really isn't conducive to the story of Saiyuki!

This installment of Saiyuki I think is a big improvement over the previous (50 episode!) series. One of the main reasons for this is that there is a lot less filler, and more story. Although I'm partial to the 'previous lives' stories that were in the first season, the bits of the character's current lives' past in RELoad are just as interesting. If you enjoyed the first season of Saiyuki, then I'm sure you'll like this one.

Also, I was glad to see Gojou's hair was actually *red* instead of pink-magenta -- since they always refer to him as "crimson-haired" when it wasn't.

I once watched the movie-version of the Journey to the West and had the impression that youkais all had to resemble some kind of animal in one way or another. Saiyuki RELOAD is a complete reversal of expectations. There are hints of humor but also filler episodes that convey emotions and feelings. Being dissimilar to the Journey to the West adds to this anime's element of amusement.

The real monk in the Journey to the West has no style of his own and relies completely on his disciples' power, while Sanzo on the other hand opposes this image of a weak and pure praying monk. Not only is he violent, but he's a rude smoker and handsome beyond the stereotypical monk. That gun he carries definitely helps to enhance this reversal.

I noticed that in the Journey to the West, Hakkai was meant to be the lecherous one, Goku is supposed to convey a big-brother image, Gojyo's meant to be subservient and weak-minded and Kougaiji was a naughty and rampant son. It's humorous to watch how they have all switched attitudes somehow.

The music in Saiyuki RELOAD was very memorable and consequently great to listen to. I have rewatched quite a number of episodes (and you always find that you're surrounded by these wonderful faces!). The voice acting was one of the best parts of this anime, along with the humor and reversal of attitudes.

I need to start off by saying that I haven't watched Gensou Maden Saiyuki or Saiyuki Reload Gunlock, so this review is based on Reload and influenced by the Hong Kong-ified, live version of Journey to the West I watched a few years back. It took a while to adjust because the two are really nothing a like, although Journey to the West did help me familiarize myself with the story. Having said that, I can sum up my enjoyment of Saiyuki Reload in two words: guilty pleasure. Why? Although this show was decent, if the guys weren't such good-looking bad-asses I probably wouldn't have finished it.

Ah wonderful series! The animation improved from gensoumaden and the soundtracks are better. At the end of every episode there is an URA-SAI (behind the scenes) which are hillarious!. The story is a continuation from the gensoumaden series but is slightly better in my opinion. I really enjoyed every minute of it and really recomend it!

i REALLY wish i could've graded this series better, sinc i really LOVED the MANGA. but, in short, the anime doesn't do the manga justice at all. (you have to wait about 15 episodes before you see some ACTUAL similarities between the two) if you've never read the manga, then you might enjoy it.

But the anime is all weird. It tries to do great detail sketches on the characters, but in some scenes they fail miserably. (especially they make sanzo look too fat at some angles and they make the ears of the youkai oddly at times.)

As far as plot is concern, it's only "ok." A lot of the stories are rather pointless showing little character developments.

as far as sound is concern, the rap-like theme song SEEMS to work well with the bad-boy kind of attitude. Yet, the words itself (unless if my translation is pretty bad) are rather ridiculous and doesn't flow very well.

i found myself enjoying the short 1minute blurbs at the end of the anime MUCH BETTER than the actual anime itself.

This is where the saga continues. Very entertaining and the theme songs are the best yet. Though I still haven't finished the seies, it looks it can be very entertaining from the first few episodes to the climax.

The Saiyuki series may not be the perfect anime for your typical audience, but if you are a big fan of Sanzo, Hakkai, Goku and Gojyo (or anyone of them) like me then this is a must-see.

As an 'anime' this series failed to impressed in the technical department; although the colour tones have been improved since the first season, the animation sequence and character expression hasn't changed if not degraded. At times the characters even looked odd from certain angles (especially Sanzo). If you are looking for artistic values then check out the manga to fully experience Minekura Kazuya's potential.

The hightlight of this show is of course the smart mix of our four leading personalities, mostly credit to their brilliant seiyuus. It's the kind of combination that people will either love or hate, some adore their wild attitude while others dislike this over-doing of rebellious/cool atmosphere (and not to mention the far-off interpretation from the original tale).

The storyline falls into the typical demon-of-the-week mode with a final climax battle ending the season. Each SEASON seems to slowly reveal more secrets regarding the base plot (journey to the west) and emphasis character development through bonding. The bonus you get in this season is a small funny segment at the end of each episode independent of the plot, and it was surprisingly what i looked forward to mostly while watching this -- definitly for the hard-core fans only.

The music on contrast really disappointed this time as it didn't have as many memorable songs compare to the first season except the rock-ish OP. The background OST was also repetitive and forgettable.

Overall keep in mind that the this series exists solely on its characters, so it's more of a fan-based anime in which the character personalities shine over the plot. You'll only get the most enjoyment if you have come to love and grown onto the characters, otherwise don't expect too much from it.

Saiyuki is no doubt 1 of my favourite Animes. I don't watch alot of Animes, but Saiyuki is 1 anime I have both on VCD & DVD. Had to collect them.

The 4 main characters, Genjo Sanzo, Sha Gojyo, Son Goku & Cho Hakkai, has their own characteristics. Each possess their own charm. You'll definitely find your favourite character in either 1 of the characters, if not all 4.

Genjo Sanzo - the "ill-tempered gun-shooting mind-your-own-business selfish super-good-looking" monk.
Sha Gojyo - the "only-talk-to-me-if-you're-a-woman" cool guy.
Son Goku - the "I'll do anything for food" kiddo.
Cho Hakkai - the ever soft-spoken healthy young man.

Not only did Minekura Kazuya expressed her own version of the pilgrimage perfectly, she has put so much great effort in re-creating the lovable characters in her own sexy ways. For the girls, the men-characters are to die for. For the guys, the plot & built-up to the grand show-down between good & evil, is mind-blowing.

But please bear in mind that Saiyuki, the manga, is a better read. If you're looking for super-Matrix effects, or rather Vandread CGIs, you're not going to get here. Saiyuki lacks the artist impression that Kazuya does so well in the manga. Kazuya was FLAWLESS in the manga. Sorry that I can't say the same about the animation.

Overall, the voice-overs are SUPERB. The plot is GREAT. The characters are LOVABLE. The anime only lacks the beauty in the animation department. The anime artist are lazy perhaps. Sanzo doesn't look quite Sanzo at times. Which makes the audience, well, in this case, ME, a little frustrated.

wonder why they change the people drawing, music and directing it? what can i say, it's not as good as the first series, the music is bad... rap for the theme song... just doesn't go with the series... the character's voices are the same but with less energy and emotions as the first.. maybe they had it with saiyuki... who ever is involved in character development or whatever they call is trying hard to make the characters as interesting and act like the ones in first series but after the first episode you're understand what i mean by everything is different! if reload is the continuation right after the first series then I can't see how the characters change so much, they are not as rowdy as the first series, less negative attitude from sanzo.... maybe they all just got along and became more mature.
