| After the mildly successful first series, Jubei Chan 2 improves on it with the quantity and quality of action scenes but is also bogged down by the repetitive message it portrayed in the first series.
Jubei Chan 2 is as I said much more action-packed, where in the first series had a fair few scenes of action, most of these are either repeated scenes or very quick one slash wins. The second series on the other hand have fewer badguys to face but more action in terms of quality and less repeated scenes and much more intense atmosphere involved. This was a bother with the first series when the action was missing in this action series, but the first season was priased well for its family-message which was portrayed well and quite touching. This series however, it went a bit overboard, the same message is there, the father-daughter thing is still present and strong but oh so melodramatic and many times un-needed, especially after we had our dose in the first series. This isn't to say its not bad, just felt very tacked on in some places, and the message wasn't really special or as touching as I had hoped.
One mention to go to the comedy part of the series, its far less chaotic and far less random but it still isn't funny. And again, very un-needed, the monkey boy trio and whatever are wasteful extras and pathetic.
Character-wise Jiyu is still the same old girl, which plays almost exactly the same as before (i.e. don't want eye-patch, but finally realises she has to use it), while Freasha is a fun loving girl with an almost stereotypical background. Kita is an unfortunate character, he was cool and felt that more screentime was needed for him.
Overall, this and the first series are opposites, one was action-packed while the other had a better story. Combine both together, and you get a great little action series, which is worth your time.
Overall: 8/10
Grade: B+

| J2 is the sequel to 1999's Jubei-chan, it's comical character driven high action series and the closest thing i could compare it to is the original jubeichan or ranma to some minor extent.
The most astounding change from J1 to J2 is the animation; it's just drop dead gorgeous!
This show looks so high budget i'm amazed it isn't an OVA or even a movie, the widescreen presentation, colors, and fluid movement and detailed drawing make it a winner, as well as the kick-ass artwork and character designs, it really is a feast for the eyes.
Musically it has some nice tracks, though it doesn't have a very big OST because most songs are reused through the show, but the one's here are good, especially the main theme.
Voice-over is perfect swaying from comic to dramatic an everything in between, I only miss the orginal VA for Shiro but the new one's ok, and Freesia's "fake" voice can sometimes be annoying but her real voice is great.
The story is similar to the first one involving 300 yr. old grudges, revenge and the legendary Jubei Yagyu, but this time apart from Jubei there anothr girl vying the lovely eye patch since she claims she's the real succesor to Jubei Yagyu.
The story silly, comical and in my opinion just a vessel for the character's to develop and the action to take place and it serves it's purpose since both the action and characters are the main attraction here.
Most characters from the first series make a return, even a few surprising ones and are joined by new members like Freesia an apparently cheerful girl with hidden plans and the Siberria Yagyu a clan that want's revenge on Yagyu Jubei and have been brewing their counterattack for 300 years.
The cast is personable and lovable and some make great developments as persons through the show, wth the exception of the Ruffian Trio and Shiro which have been given the roles of comic reliefs (though it fits them perfectly).
It's hard not to like Jiyu, Sai, the cute baby Ayunoke, Freesia and Furo.
I enjoyed this show by it's pleasant and funny mood, personable characters and super high-end action and presentation, i reccomend it to action and comedy fans since both are great.
Drama fans may like the meaty characters but the plot itself isn't going to turn anytime into a philosophy thesis, but it's never meant to, it's just meant to be fun-fun like it is!

| A decent series, surprisingly good ending, improved animation from the first series.
Worth checking out if you've seen the first series. The story is a new one, but it is a continuation of the first series.

| The animation is really good, specially when the are fighting and how things gets destroyed and the sound of the blade rubbing against each other. It makes it really cool looking hot the fight scenes are.
The music of the anime is ok. The only thing that i found really annoying was the voice of the person play as Freashia. The voice is really annoying!! I thought she was trying to hard to make it sound as a cute little girl, but instead it back-fired because it got really annoying. It was alright at the start of later on it was just play bad.
The story of the anime is the same as the first sequal, which is the idea of defeating the rival clan and giving the enemy a second change to see hings better and do stuff they want to do.
Even though, the Freashia had a really annoying voice she was pretty good of a character. I would have enjoyed it better if the voice wasn't so annoying. The main characters have a really strong personality, which makes them what they are. As the secondary characters they are more of a comedy relieve because they try to be funny that gets too wierd.
Overall, i think the value of the anime is better than the first one, and i will totally recommend it if you enjoyed the first part of Jubei-chan. I actually enjoyed watching the anime. It was very entretaining.

| Jubei-chan ruined.
It's not comedy anymore. There's still comedic relief in the form the the ruffians, but this anime is mainly hard core drama and flash backs. Many flash backs.
Jubei turns from a cheerful cutie into a stupid teenager making illogical decicions and angsting over them as much as Shinji would.
Ending is the best part. The few are quite nicely animated and the key frames look great. The ending itself is also better than in most animes. But it's definitely not worth enduring the first 10 episodes.

| I am a big fan of the first series.
I felt this sequel did not even live up to the worst moments in the first series. The animation is more cartoony, though, it is of a higher quality. The music is nowhere as good or memorable as the first season. The plot stunk, half of it totally recycled from the first season, with another bunch of discredited swordmen out to beat Jubei after 300 years, and a new servent running after her.
Most all of the characters were dumbed down from the first series, not that most of them were that smart in the first one. The comedy completely falls flat, and is far more.... crass.
The heart is not in this series like the first one. they try, but it doesn't work.

| Let's see.. this is an anime where there probably will have split views among its audience, but I don't think many will not like its main character Jubei.
The humour in this anime is weird, not particularly hilarious but still amusing. Many of the jokes are bad egoistic jokes. The storyline is simple and the action is very much exaggerated most of the time but somehow I find it acceptable in this anime. Everything in it seems balanced - humour, drama, action, music. Nothing really stands out but it feels like its enough. I don't feel as if I wanted more of anything. Probably because I am used to it from seeing the first series.
I recommend this for anyone who does not have high expectations in terms of quality in the story or even humour and action. As long as you are in a relaxed mood, you should be able to enjoy this. Although I suggest catching the first one before watching this. So get a cup of tea with some cupcakes and watch away.

| I really liked this more then the first one. It had way better graphics and a better story. Some people say it might not really have a story but its there. Might not be a very detaled story but... Besides from that, the graphics where great and with the new graphics the fight scenes where alot better then from the first series. The characters are the same except for the addition of Felicia. The only thing I dont like is the lack of time they gave Hajime. But the few scenes did give a good laugh. All in all I enjoyed it alot. Also I really hope that they make a third session.

| It looked alot better than the first one, but other than that, its the same ol story with the stupid comedy and realy cool looking fights and no real plot what so ever.
If you like dumb comedy, heavy action fight sence and don't care if there is a story or not, you'll like this one. I can't believe I'm saying this but so far this has been one of the better anime out for 2004. =P

| i think this is better than the original Jubei-chan. jubei-chan 2 clearly has superior animation and graphics. i do miss the old battle music theme from the original jubei-chan but the battle theme here is pretty good here and gets you all into the fight scenes. speaking of fight scenes, it's well-done and is the shining star of jubei-chan 2. the humor is not mind-blowing but it isn't bland as well. story-wise...jubei-chan 2 is easy to catch on and follow. the characters are developed (but not VERY deep). overall, jubei-chan 2 improves on the shining points of the original jubei-chan and the ending result is a nice sequel. rewatch value is focussed very much on the cool fight scenes ;)

| Much like it's predeccessor Jubei Chan 2 is another great round of some great comedy, action and drama. Even though Jubei-chan 2 is much more dramatic than what I would've liked it still remains a great watch. For one thing we get reuninted with familiar faces from the previous season alongwith some great new characters. When it comes to characters, they're not as good as the first but still nice. For one thing it doesnt give too much development over the Ruffians and Shirow. And more dissapointing that Hajime is almost a complete no-show. However whatever screen time is given to them is full of laughter and the funny thing is that the anime makes fun of itself for not giving them the time they obviously deserve.
A bit of a downside in this one was the lack of fine balance between the drama and the humour as seen in the first season. The humour in this one did seem a bit misplaced because of the much more serious drama, but this was a minor occurence.
A great watch to see the continuity of Jubei-chan and friends. Becomes a bit slowpaced in the middle thus not as great as the first unfortunately but still had a lot of fine moments when it came to the hilarious comedy.

| Jubei-chan 2 tries a bit too much for its own good. They up nearly everything from the first series but with an unbalanced result. The strong point of the first series was that it contaid strong feelings, hot sword fighting and wacky humor in a perfect mix. The second series contains stronger feelings, hotter sword fighting and humor.
Taking the positive side first: I love the fighting scenes of Jubei 2 very much. Not only the animation is fluid and spectacular, the sound comes into play too, giving the strikes incredible weight. I was totally sucked into them and hoped they never ended. Well, they do end. Then comes in the angst. Many people in Jubei 2 feel themselves troubled, anxious, sad or afraid. And the series really underlines this. Such scenes are given at least double the amount of time they need to drive the message home. The effect on me was something on the lines of 'yes, I understand this is tough situation for you but could the story please move forward'. This culminates in the conversations of Jiyu and Ayunosuke where the latter can't speak properly but a word in five second taking an eternity to get anything communicated. After which see long shot of Jiyu looking shocked, sad or something else like that. Not to mention the voice of Ayunosuke is freaking annoying. The first series had this stuff balanced with the action but now the sentimentality overflows a bit. It takes some edge off the humor too. I wasn't laughing as hard as I was with the first series.
While the pondering of motives and what-to-do's may be tiring it gives a good insight of the characters and they do develop during the endless crisis. I really liked how Jiyu and Freasha played together as Freasha basically fought his father to get his father's heirloom while missing his father's love. Jiyu herself may feel a bit annoying in her reluctance to use the eyepatch (especially when the fights are so cool!) but I could understand her enough not to care too much about it. Same goes for her father. But Shiro, what they did to you!? From the cool fighter to a comedic device. But he's fun with the monkey boys.
Basically Jubei 2 is Jubei 1 with awesome animation and too much feeling attached. The story could be good but it stalls too much over the pain of the characters and makes me feel uncomfortable.
But in the end Jubei has probably the most coolest theme music in anime. Every scene with that tune played on the background intensifies instantly. Watch the first series first though. It helps a lot.

| After throughly enjoying the first series, I had high hopes for this second series.
However, I found myself slightly disappointed. The overall darker tone of this story led to a lot of the humour and charm that endeared Jubei-chan to me being lost. The strong musical score that shone through in the first series also seemed somewhat dulled.
However, there is an engaging story and the over-the-top action sequences are superbly done and a joy to watch.
A rather mixed bag for the fans of the light-hearted humour seen in the first series, but definately worth a watch.

| I haven't seen the first but the good thing about the way this one is done is that you don't need to know what happened in the first, although I might've missed a few jokes, but it's nothing noticable. The ending is really good. One bad thing about this is that it has a narrator, not through out the whole thing, but just for a moment at the beginning and end, and there's even a picture of him popping up and he's hideous big time. But if you can endure these few moments of excruciating pain, the series is definately worth it.
I just have to say... Go Ayunosuke!!
...those of you who's seen it would understand...

| Now, I never saw s1, so I won't mention this season this, and that season that.
It's bleedin' extra-ordinaire... perfect mix of deep-death-depression drama (maybe not THAT deep, ut still), solid action (Jubei's fighting, awesome dude) and a mouthful of freaky gags. Even the floating clown-gnome thingy works.
I LOVEd it, and even as it does not make it into my 10-top, it's a straight-A RECOMMENDATION!

| After viewing all the episodes, I think this will be among my top ten anime series of all time. This sequel came to me with a little bit of a bad impression from the first episode (really lame jokes and characters personas were totally altered from the original).
However, after seeing the next episode, I was IMMEDIATELY hooked on the stories of Jubei-chan and co. The action scenes are superb and make the ones from the original look like ancient history. The story is above average, although there's some room for improvement... more exciting than the original season's story though. The sound quality is top-notch, and I got used to the different personas of the Ruffians and the others. Fortunately, only the best characters from the original make an appearance in this season. Thank goodness.
Along with Jiyu, Freasha enters the fray with her slightly varied version of Yagyu swordsmanship. Both look cool.
Technically, you don't really need to watch the first season, since characters have different personas.
The only real flaw apart from the story (hey, it's an action genre after all), I found the series to be rather short, and the ending was abrupt and left a few unanswered questions (possibly to make a third season? Hmm... :D)
Jubei-chan 2 is A MUST SEE series, regardless of any prior knowledge from season one!!! This second season doesn't put the series to shame at all, but rather improves it significantly. MUCH BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL! Even if it gets licensed, you should go buy the DVDs. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
OVERALL RATING: 9.5/10 (based on the main factors that make a good series)
10/10 (based on my own personal enjoyment)

| Jubei 2 is a goddamn great show, and I can't recommend it enough. However you have to take everything with a grain of salt...
The first thing you have to understand about Jubei is that it's a spoof. No matter how dramatic the drama is or, how comedic the comedy is, or how ****ing awesome the action is, it's all tongue in cheek. Even more than the first season, which is an accomplishment. Whenever you're caught in the moment of heavy dramatic action, they'll suddenly turn around and break the fourth wall on you. It's actually a great deal crasser than the first rendition of Jubei-chan, the jokes more obvious, the action has a great deal more flash and less substance.
You can't help but feel that if they had taken this seriously, it could have been great...but they don't care, not one whit. The second they start falling into a time-worn cliche that's sure to pull your strings, they slap you across the face and tell you you're a sucker.

| I saw this series before watching the first one, and I say to you now that you don't need it. The story involves characters that appeared in the first series, but they become apparent rather quickly. Some of the jokes they make about the first series will pass right over your head, but that's okay. They're token enjoyment, and by no means detract from the experience of watching this show.
The ending left a lot of openings, and I can't necessarily approve of that, but I would definitely watch a third series. I'm already hunting for the first.

| Amazing anime.
At first, it grabs my attention with its unorthodox comedy but then as the show progresses, it changes into one of the most dramatic animes I've ever seen. It truly is remarkable how they made the transition from slapstick into something so stirring. The characters are well developed and you can feel the emotions that they go through.
The action sequences are also breathtaking. In the span of 12 episodes, this show made my laugh, sad, angry, and overjoyed.
