| That one was hard to review.
There are some good parts, so thotoughly mixed with standards and totally used solution not to mention stereotypes, that it's truly hard to rate it fair. Right one I though that Caharcter are mediocre at best I was remembered about this one character who did that and this other who did sth else. Well - let me tell You - this won't be the most enjoyable experience, because right on top of being surprised by some nice development Your eagerness for more will be quickly dampened with sth so damn predictable and unoriginal that simple word "boredom" will get an entire new meaning. Let's take care of the details.
I will just state this. Partially I enjoyed it - but I REALLY haD NOTHING better to do at that time.

| Madhouse has always been one of my favorite production companies. With gems such as Petshop of Horrors, Perfect Blue and Monster to flaunt, their credentials are impressive, and Twilight of The Dark Master was a title that I downloaded based solely on studio. No studio is perfect, however, and Twilight of The Dark Master is solid evidence of this. There's not much WRONG with the OVA, per se, but it's really just generic shocker pulp. This 40-minute feature is dark, angry and unapologetically raunchy at times, chock-full of naked women and dismemberment and grody mutation scenes, just like most horror anime.
Right from the start the animation gave it away as a Madhouse work; this is something like the long-lost uncle of Petshop of Horrors. It wasn't exactly sparkling or brilliant, and PSoH pretty much outdoes it (since it does have two years on Twilight) but the OVA still looks fairly good. Sound is totally dismissive, except for a couple of catchy instrumental pieces here and there. The music manages to be different without becoming too obtrusive (a problem in PSoH) and the voice acting is suitably done.
The story, relying on the plot device of 'gross uber-steroid is messing people up and evil pharmaceutical corporation is experimenting with it', is saved solely by making its transpirations more personal than worldly. The whole basis of the plot doesn't concern itself with the fate of the Earth or humanity, but instead the retributive quest of a woman who misses her fiance and a guardian of the earth with a score to settle. All the elements of the plot are there, but they need to be cobbled together a bit by the viewer to maximize coherence...things aren't exactly drawn together by the ending.
As far as characters go, Shizuka pretty much carries the whole thing on her back. Though she's arguably not the main character, she is the strongest one, and the one that the viewer cares most about. She takes vengeance into her own hands without relying on the help of others, and is quiet and private about doing so; she sees no need to have others do her job for her. The man she enlists to find the demon isn't really an important personality, and merely exists to push the plot along. Instead, it's Shizuka whose quest we really take the most interest in, and within the span of half a movie that level of empathy is fairly impressive.
