Im normally really generous when it comes to reviews of anime from H Games, since its usually spoken for that they prob will come standard with a really good story and really well drawn characters. However, I feel like Hourglass really dropped the ball here. Im trying to write from my memory of the anime, and NOT from the game, which absolutely blows this series away.

The technicals were what was good about this show, being the VAs and the artwork. However, while other series can do very well for being only 1-3 episodes (Wind, Mizuiro, Hoshi no Koe), there was this HUGE chunk of plot missing from Hourglass, and I did not feel satisfied with the story at all.

All in all, go play the game (its in ENGLISH! Get it from Hirameki and support them, its well worth it). The game is extremely in depth, while the anime, esp between 1 and 2, makes huge jumps. (How the hell did the teach suddenly end up in the garage scene with the stalker out of NOWHERE? nO development at all, the writers needed to get some hints from Robert Zemeckis on how to make time travel work WELL for such a short plot, HAHA)

An ok watch at the end.

Depth-wise, let's just say that if you put this anime in a double boiler, you'd make amazing cheese fondue.

To be fair though, I did think it was well drawn, it was nice eye-candy, and if I set aside my cynical realism and concern for depth of characters, I could see the voices as appearing cute.
Moreover, there were 2 or 3 'camera angles' / 'artistic shots' which were really interesting.

However, now I know what type of anime all those parodies are making fun of.

Nothing revolutionary here folks.

Interesting anime, predictable ending. Nothing too special, but was quite an enjoyable hour. There were 5 main characters, very much like a hentai to be honest in terms of character design – eye candy.

The story was the type I like, you know the future and you’re trying to prevent it. I didn’t expect this anime, looking and feeling the way it is, to provide some brilliant and very original ending.

Having known the ending all along, it wasn’t as enjoyable. But the comedy in this was quite good, smiled and occasionally gave a laugh. In the end there’s mixed feeling about this anime. I liked it, but wouldn’t watch it again. Nonetheless, it was presented well with nice animation and music, the characters wasn’t really allowed to grow effectively within such a short time span and hence you didn’t fell much for them. This made it difficult to really experience the love between the characters and the conflicts in emotions between them.

Its not that bad, considering the two ep of this anime. I quite liked it. Natsuiro Or Sandglass of Summer Colors is a love story taken from a hentai game and made without any hentai, with a light an easy story which is not hatable.

The animation and music were pretty good. The characters were will developed, and they all played and important role to the plot. The plot is basically about changing the future. Sometimes the future is not that easy to change like you expect because you look at the big picture so much that you over look some of the small details, such as with Ai.

Overall, I really enjoyed watching this anime. Even though, it was really short, but it was straight to the point without really stupid ends. I totally recommend it to everyone to watch it.

Game is a game, anime is anime. When a cheap company convert game to anime, this is always happen.

Only decent thing is animation, others catagory either fair or poor. Take the story for change, since it's have to compress in 2 ep. it's go so freaking fast, it made you feel like you didn't watch anything. Also Ligene wasn't mystery enough. As I was the last min extra I thought Ligene was going to be some what mystry or more detail. Too bad it doesn't end with sad ending, that would help them improve a little bit. All and all I still believe you can not change your fate and this story doesn't sway me one bit.

Maybe it's good if you play the game and want animation ver. but if you a real anime fan, this one doesn't worth much.

Decent is the word that covers this anime. It has nothing special to offer, just more of the same.

The animation is quite colorful and cheery, which hampers the atmosphere. This is one anime which should've taken itself more seriously. Even with the 2 OVA format, a lot more could've been accomplished, had the storywriter had taken more risk. But alas, while the story itself had room for a lot of depth and character development, the makers decided to play this one on safe and went for uninspired characterdesigns, even less inspired characters and did everything related to story by the standard formula. It's simply way too predictable, and take into account that I'm not even a veteran on the romance genre. If you are, then I'd even go as far as saying you'll fall asleep.
The only thing that could make this anime more worthwile are the jokes. But even these were lacking, as they were mostly victim of the playing-it-safe strategy. We've seen these jokes before so many times that the word cliché is a severe understatement.

With all the negative comment, you can still enjoy this anime, but it is in no way memorable. This is bargain-bin anime, nothing more.

While the story itself is pretty decent, it is pretty hard to make a comprehensible time-shifting romance story with only 2ep available.

The animation is decent, but I've seen better in terms of anime for DVDs. The sound can be better, as I think some of the voice really didn't match the character. Fortunately (or unfortunately) there are only a couple of panty shots and you don't really see any thing ecchi at all.

The story is really hard to enjoy in terms of its depth. All you get at the end, is that a love triangle that somehow is resolved at the end, and there are a bunch of stuffed happened in between.

The biggest problems are the characters. Like many other short anime based offed dating games, there are too many girls and too little time. The anime tries to introduce too many side characters that are really just fillers and does not really help the story at all.

In the end this is a really enjoyable anime, but just like any other short romance anime, there is nothing special about it at all.

Well well.. what can i say about this anime....

Animation is medium for an OVA and the sound is nothing special.

The plot wants to be very interesting picking on time travelling, quantum leap, changing the past and saving the loved one...overall not an very original plot cose we've seen it in many movies and i think the first one was the american movie "Quantum Leap" but that's ok cose it's really hard to find an original plot after 100 years of cinematography..... but even so they could have made a great anime they really failled in a most dissapointing way.. why you ask??

-well the time travell method sounds stupid and so does the tool they use..an ancient sand clepsidra?? wtf??

-the time agent named Ligene is a girl that looks more like it came out of a night club then a goverment section.. and the only thing i can remember is those panty shots

-the teacher belives the guy who was watching the girls undress.... yeah right... shure.. next time i'll go take a peek at the girls looker room and get caught i'll say i'm on a time travell mission

-He has to save 3 ppl so his gf won't get killed.... lol wasn't easier to just go and stop her at the bus station??

-overall the sweet, innocent, too goody good girl with a cruell father is a bitt to much

-yeah right.. all the girls fall in love with him, from the ever present in all lame fanservice animes "childhood friend" Kaho, to the love of his life, to the teacher and the hard working girl and even the time travell agent.... this was probably made for all those dorks out there.

-And yeah.. well at least it had an ending unlike most 2 ep OVAs....

-but i still don't get it... is the creator of this anime such a big idiot??... he has nooo clue what detail and logic means, you know those little things that make you say "waw this was something".. naah he does't and a good example is this.... the main character( and i don't remember his name cose he was soo cycle, your average not special good harted brown hair Sinji/Keitaro/Keiji.. well all the male characters look the same).. well anyway the main character, after saving the love of his life hugs her and everybody's happy... but the idiots are still on the street... what's the point?.. you almost got hit by a car and you hug in the middle of the street for 3 minutes??

This isn't a sf/action/mystery anime.... not even close... the overall story flow doesn't get u interested at all and you can anticipate any move, plus it just gives you the feeling that this anime was made really cheap and for some stupid kids or something.... this is the classic fan-service/romantic/ecchi ONE GUY-HAREM story....but with a lame sf excuse.

Don't bother watching it... cose at the end you are just gonna feel like u lost your time for nothing.

This anime offers only one thing........which is crap +_soime fanservice...
Frankly speaking, this anime is a cheap attempt at cashing in on the bishoujo game to anime trend hat is happening..unlike the enjoyable KGNE and Kanon, this falls far short of decency. The animation is below par for an OVA and I was seriouly wondering how much they had budgeted for this show. The story is full of plot holes which were left unexplained and the romance is forced. The side characters are boring as well with the cliche magical girl, teacher, childhood friend etc...The female lead is also a boring goody-goody and frankly speaking..i wouldn't really give it a stuff if she gets run over by a car because the other girls in the show are much cuter....Why is the main male lead always blind...sigh.......

The ending is also predictable , cliche and very rushed. What was suppose to be a climax turned out to be a half attempt at a dramatic finale which fell far short of target..

The OP is not catchy and the BGM is unremarkable.

Someone needs to change the description for this anime because it is too misleading..because it should warn people of the huge disappointment they are about to encounter.

Overall, one to avoid......save the hour for something else.......

I don't know what to say. Everything is just too fast. The background story is OK, eventhough it is not possible. Too little characters to develop the characters. The idea is quite good, but because the series is too short, the story become lame and unwatchable. I was wondering, why don't they make this into a movie, or a 13 episode TV series instead? I rather want Kotaru tries 4 or 5 more times, so it can makes the series more meaningful.

Too bad, I don't know what this anime is trying to tell. I don't really recommend this series. Kind of disappointed. If this anime is a movie or 13 episode TV series, it may be more interesting.

This anime offers you one thing and only one thing: cute girls.

Don't watch it if you don't like harem anime. It is simply a dual-OVA collection to promote their adult H game.

Story you get those traditional cliche of going to the summer festival and dating a weak girl who are under strict control. Oh and don't forget your childhood female friend who is always by your side and will welcome you any minute.

By the way, if you watch this without the sound, the scenes get corny quickly.

How dissapointingly average, its somewhat interesting plot and some good music/animation can't save this from being totally average.

First off, the plot, though it had an interesting plot, it soon dragged on with too many inconsistencies, plot-holes and overall, at the end, didn't really matter. The 2 episodes could have easily been compacted into one and still produce the same results as there were too many 'useless' characters which had too much screen time and provided nothing at the end.

The 'Day drops' had an interesting concept to it but wasn't fully developed in any way and just when they were about to explain something, they stop at a dead end and ignore it for the rest of the series.

Character-wise, somewhat a cliched cast of girls, nothing special and nothing unique, a very average cast. Relationship wise, the 2 lovers weren't convincing enough (mostly due to the 'day drops') and the overall feeling didn't hit me at all.

However, this anime isn't as bad as i say, it has some redeeming points but nothing too special to make it a big recommendation from me. e.g. The last 15 minutes or so were pretty well done.

Overall, give this anime a little chance, though some may like it, i personally didn't. Go watch Mizuiro 2003 instead :P

Overall: 6/10
Grade: C

Natsuiro no Sunadeki...A very beautiful name (means Sandglass of the Summer Colors), but too bad the anime didn`t match up to it. Sadly it`s another one of those short 2 episode OAVs with way too much potential missed by its producers. This time it`s a game from Princess Soft.

Animation: Like most OAVs, Natsuiro no Sunadeki had a higher animation budget per episode than most 13 or 26 episode series. Stuff happens every scene, and the characters are very detailed. It`s a very modern type of artstyle, with many bright colors and thin outlines (like Mizuiro 2003). No Special computer CGs here, but there`s enough animation to hook the audience and keep its attention.

Sound: This OAV also had a very catchy OP theme: Drive away Dream. It goes well with the opening animation, and sets up the mood very well. The ending theme is sadly like any other generic J-pop with a still ending. The BGMs and sound in the anime are nicely done, but how bad can you screw sound in a drama-romance anime? Some of the girls` voices sound ultra high, but since I`ve watched many types of these anime, it`s ok.

Story: A very interesting twist on the typical bishoujo game to anime conversion. This anime introduce the concept of "time leaps" that the main male protagonist uses to help protect the ones he love from danger in the future. Kinda like DNA2 but much more serious. Too bad with only 2 episodes they tried to cram a 13 episode plot into a very short 60 minutes. Some parts seemed way too dramatized, and a lot of plot holes went missing. (like what happened with the swimming freshman with the blue hair?) Some parts didn`t connect well, and there was barely any character development. However, this anime did have very good drama for its short viewing.

Character: The main male lead in the story, Makimura Koutarou was a very active protagonist. Unless most dating sim to anime conversions, this guy sets goals and actually meets them. He wants to ask the girl out, and he does ask her. Girls don`t fall on his lap like most other anime. This was a very refreshing change. Kaho is easily the main female lead, and was given the most screen time. Ligene the time person also was an important character, but wasn`t developed as much. Then there`s the generic childhood friend and a obligatory gay buddy. Typical dating sim to anime conversion.

Value: Sadly it`s only a 2 episode OAV. It it was a full 13 episode or 26 episode series, Natsuiro no Sunadeki could have had the caliber of Kanon or Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien. Too bad Princess Soft had never made a full anime series (cough cough Memories Off 1st and Second).

Enjoymen: Length problems or not, I still enjoyed Natsuiro no Sunadeki. It`s unique storyline and high production value made it a nice little drama anime of the year 2004. (and we haven`t found a good dating sim to anime conversion yet this year...let`s hope To Heart exceeds all expectations)

I always hated the harem genre, especially if copious amounts of fan-service is involved. Love Hina is one of the most disgustingly brainless anime in existence. Kanon is a piece of shit. So are Happy Lesson, Vandread, and many others of its kind. But I'm also a hypocrite. I happened to like Please Teacher. I really liked Ai Yori Aoshi. I also mildly enjoyed Tenchi Muyo. Fruits Basket (if that is to be considered harem) is my favorite anime. But I still hold "harem" as the most mindless and hackneyed genre anime has to offer. I mention this because it's a compliment to this title that I enjoyed it at all.

Like most anime of this length (a mere two episodes), this probably would have been better had it been longer. But then, I'm grateful for its length. Had this been twenty-six episodes, I have no doubt we will have nothing but an elongated version of Kanon. Or worse, a Love Hina clone. It was certainly going down that road. My shoe size is larger than the girls' IQ. Kaho, though having plenty of time to move out of the way, just sits and gawk as the car hurtles towards her direction. She also sounds like a five year old. Ligene is about as cute as Pamela Anderson and about as smart. Oh, and we have your usual prepubescent filled with lust. I already forgot the main character's name. So of course, he was pretty generic and unmemorable. But that goes for all male leads of this genre, does it not?

But the story itself isn't bad for its length. It's nothing to blow your socks off, but hey, it's better than Gestalt. I expected a cliffhanging ending or no ending at all, but unlike most two-episode OVAs, this actually has a conclusion.

This wasn't a bad way to waste an hour. Even so, the best thing about the anime is its title...

"Hourglass of Summer"

Kind of sounds like this is going to be something great, doesn't it?

From what I can tell, this series is a two 30-minute-per-episode OVA that completes the arc. Two episodes, unfortunately, typically doesn't give much to go on for a review, other than a basic storyline -- a beginning, a middle, and an end -- and a typical cast of characters for a typical schoolkid romance series.

Natsuiro no Sunadokei started out with an interesting premise (and twist) of time-jumping to save a person's life, but it was a storyline with limited potential yet seemed to be a theme that would take over the anime. Luckily, it didn't.

Overall, at least the series is more or less self containing, but there are obvious points in the flow of the plot that indicate a storyline distilled from a longer, and possibly better or richer, storyline from a novel or computer game. It seems that this anime was made for a fanbase that was already there. That, or the production comittee realized that the storyline had a very short lifetime with few possibilities for plot ideas and decided to end the series as best as possible. I am thinking that it's the latter.

The ending, though self-satisfying in given what was already there in the first episode, also leaves many blatantly untied ends, making me to wonder, are there really any more OVA episodes or will there be a TV series to come in this series?

Otherwise, the series has good OP/ED sequences worth watching and music worth listening to. The BGM (if it existed) is forgettable.

This was about what I had expected it to be from just glancing over it. Very similar to other romance game -> anime conversions like Da Capo and Mizuiro. Instead of memory loss, sickness, or coming back from the dead being the story gag we get a 2 episode dose of time-travel ala Quantum Leap. The male lead has feelings for the girl in question and in the process of delivering a love letter meets up with a time-traveling babe that has come back to his time to prevent said girl from meeting an untimely death at the end of the summer. It has the standard fare character development and interaction without giving away everything. The use of sound is pretty lackluster other then the seiyuu and the animation is average at best, but works for the show. Soft colors, soft character designs, not a lot of motion (think kiminozo style animation). Going with an all's-well-that-ends-well conclusion, Natsuiro wasn't a bad 2 episodes and accomplished what it set out to do in the first place. Is it a must watch? No, not at all, however it is a good way to kill about 50 minutes if you're looking for something short and sweet to use in your anime evening.

I didn't expect much out of this anime and it didn't live up to anything more than I thought it would. The idea behind the anime is interesting, but executed rather disappointingly.

I've only seen the first episode but so far the storyline is ridiculously flimsy. I don't think they actually explained in any kind of detail why it is that Kaho's death requires intervening; if they did, it is cleverly hidden behind all the various plot holes.

Why is it that the only way for them to save Kaho is if Kou either a. breaks up with her or b. keeps Mana from injuring herself? Why doesn't he just break their date the day before they go out. Or agree to meet somewhere else. Oh I know why. Because this is logical.

Let's not forget the fact that after Kou tells his teacher what happened between him and Ligene, the teacher acts like it's completely normal instead of warning his parents that he needs major counselling (like any mentally stable teacher with a conscience would do). No, she just sits there and feeds his dellusions.

Kaho ran out right in front of a car anyways. I don't see how that's an "irregularity in time" more than it's just plain stupidity. In fact, the way that Ligene and Kou continue to mess with time would create the irregularity.

Granted, it is only the first episode, but the plot already seems to be raped to death by a nonsensical base storyline. It will be nothing short of a miracle to be able to pull this anime out of mediocrity.

Time may tell if this is one is completely mediocre or not -- but it's my feeling that is. There is no hint of originality in this one, and stinks of the hentai game genere, which itself is basically a trash-bin of forumaltic repetition. How many times can you possibly warm over the stale highschool harem comedy? When do you finally run out of cheap gimmicks?

On the plus side, I somewhat like the character designs.

But no one should entertain the idea that this might the next Kiminozo, because it ain't.

Wah, I'm the first one to review? o_0;;

The moment I watched the first episode, the OP song got me hooked. And though the whole time-travel-to-prevent-future-tragedy thing is kinda played out, I have to say I have high hopes for this OVA because of the character designs and the potential chronological disorder and paradox and scenarios that might be invovled can bring excellent twists for a romance anime. Oh, that and even now I still have bitter memories from KimiNozo; imagine if Takayuki could've foreseen what'd happen to Haruka and could've gone back in time and done everything he could to prevent it from happening. Yah, it's like that.

Other than Kaho's overly cutesy voice that sounds like a 5-year-old, I find all the female character designs to be very appealing, both visually and vocally.

This is by no means a very comical romance series as you'll find out, and so far the fanservice has been at a minimum, which is good. C'mon, Koutaro, you can do it! Don't let something like Haruka's accident repeat!! Save Kaho!! GANBATTE!~

Just to clarify: I only mentioned KimiNozo because of the accident factor; what actually got me hooked is the possibility that a similar tragedy wouldn't repeat itself (even the best-friend-of-girl-was-cause-of-accident thing was similar). As for anyone who isn't interested in this type of high school one guy, bunch of girl type of anime, simply don't watch it. It's that simple. Those who loathe watching lil' brats grow strong and fight a lot shouldn't watch One Piece, Naruto, Hunter x Hunter; I am of course exaggerating here, but it's quite simple: if you don't like this genre, most likely you still won't like it...
