| In order to enjoy Sailor Moon, you have to give it a chance and overlook the "corny-ness" it often inspires. This series makes me feel nostalgic because it was one of the most successful "magical girl transformation" anime of its time, which was the time when I first started to watch anime. By now, most people are sick of the magical girl theme that involves the transformation of a young school girl, but I can't call this show unoriginal. In its time, which was 1992, it was completely original. Again, you've got to give it a chance, but to me, it feels like an "oldie" that's just enjoyable to watch. Of course, if you want to enjoy it, stay away from the English dub. The dub cuts out a lot of important material and waters down the story so that young girls can watch it. If many people hate Sailor Moon because they've only seen the wreck of its English dub, I can understand their feelings.
This first season did not have to be 46 episodes long. There were a lot of irritating fillers stuck in between the actual story. There's a pretty deep plot that's revealed throughout, however, and the final two episodes are really amazing. The music is catchy and fits the show (only in the Japanese version, so be careful), but I could be saying that because of the nostalgia. By the end of the first season, a lot of new characters with different traits are introduced, but none of them except the main character, Usagi (or Serena, if you go by the dub), shows significant development. Regardless, it's really fun to see each of them develop their own powers and work together to defeat the enemy.
Remember that this show focuses a lot on girl power. The intended audience is most likely just girls, since the outfits and magic look very "girly." If you don't know what I mean, just watch Usagi shine light at her enemies in order to defeat them. There's very little hand-to-hand combat. The story itself is full of romance, so the best way to watch it is in a relaxed state. Don't attack the plot for any possible absurdity. Don't nitpick at the characters' decisions and morality. Just sit back and watch without thinking too deeply. Otherwise, you won't be able to enjoy the show.

| Sailor Moon Classic will always have a special place in my heart. I watched a lot of anime between 1982 and 1992, but SM was my first monster-of-the-day magical transforming girl series. The formulaic plots did get irritating at times, not to mention watching the same transformation and attack sequences over and over in each episode--which is why I dinged the Story 3 points. But then I discovered a little thing called "fast forward." So, this review is therefore based on the concept that if you don't like watching the repetitive Sailor Senshi henshin and attack sequences, just FFWD through it because the story itself is both cutely charming and awesomely epic.
There has been interesting writing about the series as a reflection of Japan's 20th century history, as well as Sailor Moon's persona as a reflection of Japan's concept of self-assertion, but I think Sailor Moon is best enjoyed as a cute, romantic, and entertaining adventure.

| SM Classic is about a girl who, after finding a cat with a crescent-shaped marking on her head turns into a super heroine. This series is a classic and is driven by comedy, romance, and evil-monster fighting. The majority of the comedy comes from the main character, Tsukino Usagi. However, it is the romance and the drama of the relationship between Usagi and the mysterious Tuxedo Mask that kept me watching. If you're into classics or romance this is for you; disregard the 12-year-old girls tag as I did.
Note: As other reviewers have pointed out, watch the unedited, undubbed version. It is MUCH better in terms of story as well as voice acting.

| The first and classic season of Sailor Moon! :). First of all, I don't think this is only aimed at 12 year old girls. The story is quite deep, and it will grab your interest especially if you're interested in metaphysics etc. The bad thing about this season is that there are many monster-of-the-day episodes, and therefore slow plot development. But this helps us to get to know the characters as they're introduced for the first time. The characters develop a lot. This season features the best and scariest villains in my opinion. The final episodes are probably some of the best sailor moon episodes ever. The sound quality is disappointing however, although the music itself is very good.

| MOstly based on my opinion seeing it as a child since I honestly don't want to re-watch alll rgiht now. I loved this anime so much in my childhood and I 'm glad I was able to see it in its unbutchered form :)
FIRST OF ALL, the version that is dubbed in english and edited is serioualy a totally different experience than if you saw the japanese version. It is a completely different anime and you can't judge it like that just because you saw some knock=off version on tv that's dubbed in english, same goes for digimon, card captor sakura, escaflowne, etc. People have no right to judge or review this anime if they oinly saw the crappy dub.
this is such a fun and entertaining anime to watch as a kid (when I watched it). This is aimed towards a younger audience since it is magical girl girl.
Magical girl recommemndations: Akazukin Cha Cha, Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne. whether you hated or loved sailor moon

| Unbelievable, just unbelievable. After hearing so much of trash-talk about this anime, I started watching it without any hopes to see anything good. Actually, I've just started to watch it out of boredoom and because some good reviewers were praising it. Well, anyway, I thought I'll see something as bad as Dragon Ball Z, or even worse, but I was never yet so surprised in my entire life, these Sailor Moon's series are just unchallengeably awesome.
Now I'm pretty confused, I don't understand how come so much people are flaming it, trashing it. Why? I have never watched "cut" series and I'm never planning to watch it, so I believe that's the only reason why this anime is being hated by some people. Anyway, if you are truly an anime fan, you should never watch something what is cut, western civilizations always cut the best parts and make anime look more childish, and watching cut anime is almost as good as skipping episodes, so it's not true watching, it's just spoiling.
I'm not really sure whom to recommend it, so I'll just squeeze this' anime's good points into few words. These particulary series include: top-notch romance, sexy girls in cute uniforms, a lot of comedy, monsters, numinous plot twists and finally something as big as the fight for the future of the world.

| Overall: Very close to excellent
Animation: True, it doesn't deserve an 8 but for an old anime it does. True, the colors were a little too bright or too dark at times but like I said, it's old and my first anime ever.
Sound: Very good, whenever there is a sad part, sad mucis is playing on the background, whenever there's a tarnsformation scene, girly mucis plays. The dubbed version soundtracks were better I must admit but the Japanese soundtracks were very good too.
Story: Excellent, I could never think of such a complicated story. Well, Naoko didn't think of it, it's Greek mythology but don't you just love it? It's complicated and that means it's not boring because if it was simple it'd be very boring and predicting.
Character: Usagi is the one who develops the most, at the beginning all she cares about is Sailor V video games and cake and ice-cream and slepping, but at the end of this season she really shows us she cares and she's not as dumb as she seems.
Value: I highly recommend you buy this anime, all 200 episodes because this is just the first season. This animie will make you want to watch the next episode after you've watched one and it'll leave you feeling good inside.
Enjoyment: 10 of course, it's really school-life-ish, girly-ish, hero-ish, feel-good-ish all mixed together. It's like your'e in another world or it takes you in Tokyo and it feels like you're their friends and you're also a Sailor Scout. Sailor Moon was my first obsession and even though a lot of people say it's dumb, it's not. Give it a chance, it's an anime after all, and you're here because....you like anime.

| Well, I don't know I can consider myself as on all out pro on anime series, but I have watched well over 200 gig with anime, and read a good amount og kilo mange...
I have only watched the first season, and don't dare to go on afraid that I will ruin my now good point of view of this serie!
Because, let's face it, it is a never ending fantasy story!
Unless you, yourself choose where for it to end, and the ending of season 1 suited me just fine.
Animation: It is old, no douth there, first episode really disapointed me, but somehow you get used to it, and if you watch on you won't notice it lack of modern Animation...
Sound: Well, the starting and ending theme is something I often play just for pleasure, but the music in-episode isnt really something to be amazed by.
Story: This is just great, or it becomes great.
It really pisses you off sometimes when Usaki constantly throws that damn headpiece of hers, and all the other sailor moons uses their skills, over and over and over, but if you manage not to be to anoyed by this, then you should find this very enjoyable.
You kinda have to watch the hole season in order to coment on this, because the beginning, let us just face it, the editor just didnt seem to know where this was going, but in the end we got a story we that we can love, and sences we want to rewatch over and over!
Character: I really really love this part, the way the characters interact with eshoulder, and how everything, relations, mudes, that kind of stuff, changes and have their impact in sutch away that the story in fact changes and don't go back to the standar "everything is back to normal" style.
+ Sailor Moon is just so cute and funny! ^^
Value: I recoment everyone to watch the first season, it was worth spending time on!
If you want to risk it all by going on, so be it!
Enjoyment: Everyone which enjoy Comedy, Magic & Romance should watch this, but like I said in the story section, this is not for the action freaks!

| I remember the first episode of SM. Was back 11 years ago. A talking cat bumps into the life of a 13 year old Japanese school girl and gives her supernatural powers. We have seen this before, havent we? I watched some 20-25 episodes of the first season and some of the second.
Animation is simply not good but the cat is cute and also the way the girls are being drawn. But why do they have such extremely long legs? The monsters are hilarious and they dont resemble anything you've seen before. It seems a fashion designer got schizophrenia and started drawing twisted models. The girl's metamorphosis is also impressive.
Sound, well after listening some music from the Sailor Moon CD and remembered some of the songs I have to say it is the sound that saves Sailor Moon from oblivion.
Story: what story? just a monster appears and is defeated by a rain of love chains, moon lights, aqua illusions etc. The final confrontation is a little better but in such series it is mostly for fun that you'll watch them. Mostly fillers. Oh, we learn also about the Moon Kingdom and Sailor Venus. But really only after eradicating 30 monsters in 30 episodes.
Characters: I watched a dubbed version, fortunately not the English one, which somehow transferred decently the awkwardness of the characters of the 13-year old school girls. The characters were simply very well done and will make you laugh sometimes. Only when they start to cry do they become a little annoying. Also the character Husai I heard in the english dub was replaced by a woman. Here he is voiced by a man so nothing is lost of that character. I think he quite matches the original Japanese voice. Very well done.
Value: I've watched this and Stars. I simply dont want to watch anymore. the first season in my opinion is the most original of all. But had it the quality of Stars it would score higher. But where the first season shines is that no one would expect that so many episodes would follow and so was more eager to see it.

| Every once in a while, there is a premise created for anime that is so successful that people decide to follow their lead and create more shows on the same premise, hopefully; to make something more successful than the last. Sailor Moon, is the original (at least I think) Magical Girl anime. It's the show that inspired all the rest, and quickly became a classic everywhere.
Now to the point, unlike other users: I didn't like Sailor Moon. Perhaps it was the old-school animation, the characters, the dub or the melodrama. I don't know. I think I didn't like it because it was seriously over-dramatic and had lots of end-of-the-world and cheezy "You can't destroy the power of love!" type scene's which made me twitch.

| When I first watched this I was seven and after 13 years I watched it in sub-titles. As a child watching this I was embroiled in the, which better debate Sailor Moon or Power Rangers. I voted for the former since at the time explosions on the images of the Gulf War looked "cooler" than that cheesed out robot. (Yes, I am ashamed)
Now at age 20 having been "volunteered" to baby sit until the last of them reaches the horrific teenage years, I procured the whole thing on e-bay, since this stuff was like candy to little children. Initially, I had no intention of paying any attention, but nostalgia had different ideas and I ended up watching the whole thing with gusto.
Animation wise it is dated, but back then it was the best they could do. So any comparison to more recent animes is like comparing Colossus to a modern PC. The use of recycled shots is annoying, but underestandable, in those prehistoric times. Still, no one really seems to have exagerated measurements, and what nudity there is, is muted and not jaw dropping. After seeing what passes for TV in the US these days I have no qualms about showing this to children.
Sound wise not complaints and that theme song no matter how over used is somewhat iconic to the series. In many respects it is like the theme from COPS, it almost never gets old.
Story is where the series and it successors fail miserably since there is almost no significant departure villan of the week. For a children's show it is more than sufficient in terms of simplification.
The characters are still after 13 years funny, and quirky. Rei and Usagi's never ending arguement never gets old. Mamo-chan is hilarious for all the wrong reasons, but I couldn't care less since a strong male lead would have been anthema to the whole theme of magical girl.
In the end the series was addictive, even to me. This Sailor Moon Phenomena has spawned, for better or worse, a whole genere of magical girl(s). As a baby sitting tool it is invaluable, simple enough for a kid to grasp, and addictive enough for, me at least, use as a bargaining tool.
-Courage is fear holding on five minutes longer

| Yeah, Sailor Moon's kind of outdated and thrown into the back closet where no one really thinks of it any more... but it's been around for quite a while. It's one of the 'classics'. The animation, even if it isn't the best, I still consider pretty good. I've always enjoyed the music for Sailor Moon, and is very enjoyable, aimed mainly at younger (female) audiences. The shining point of this anime is its character development. All of the characters are extremely deep and complex, all with individual fears and motivations. Sure, the story itself wasn't all that amazing, but it was worth watching just to see the characters develop along the way. ^~
PS don't watch the dub :)

| Note: This review is based off of interspersed episodes that I happened to pick up from Toonami (hence it is an English dub and not in order, not that the order really matters except for the beginning). In general, it is a simplistic storyline with a very distinct good vs evil distinction, your typical confused, silent, memory-list suave male hero, a cast of support characters each with their own static personalities, a ditzy airheaded female lead, and lots of minor stories about crushes and friendship troubles.
For an immature shoujo anime with the occasional superficial romance scenes, Sailor Moon has a few decent points - Although chock full of superficial characters, lame action sequences, cutesy costumes and transformations, etc etc, Sailor Moon has those great moments where you learn more about the moon kingdom and have those Sailor Scouts working together after going through thick and thin to defeat the evils.
Overall, this anime seems to be a bit bland in terms of pacing. There really isn't much connecting the middle episodes together except for the same repetitive stuff over and over again. I really disliked those episodes where some girl has some crush on this guy and worries over the littlest things, but I guess for a young girl it would be interesting to watch. All the minor plot developments don't contribute to some grand ending. It's more of the character chemistry that gradually builds up - but I personally didn't care much about that. I was also disappointed with the sudden ending, but this was unsurprising considering the general mood of this anime. Serena is your typical clueless girl that easily expresses and acts on her feelings. Her personality remains unchanged throughout the majority of the show, and I didn't feel like I wanted to go back to the missed episodes when I watched some random episode of Sailor moon on TV. There was the rare episode that I managed to pick up that dealt with the intro of new characters (cool) and the death of some of the main characters, but most of the time I found it to be unmemorable.
Sailor Moon is really aimed for the young girls audience and Serena makes quite an interesting role model for girls of a young age. There isn't any sophisticated plot, rather it is just more of a character relationship oriented series. Although truly a "meatball head", Serena is a fun character to watch. I didn't feel so hot towards Tuxedo mask and I always thought his perfect timing to save Serena was kind of lame and pointless, but I guess it just shows that Serena is an average normal girl and not some lone superhero.
Overall, Sailor Moon is not something I would touch upon again nor recommend to anyone else. I think only young girls ... or the curious... should really consider watching this.

| Ah, yes... Sailor Moon. One of the first anime series I-ve seen. I used to like it very much, and although I pretty much grew out of it, I must admit that watching SM was great.
This is an old anime and quite long (if you count all the seasons or whatever), so it gets boring... but it-s always fun to watch, I think.

| Sailor Moon is a classic anime at best, though it does have its share of flaws, especially pertaining to the animation and character development. But if you're willing to see classic anime, this series is a real gem and something no one should miss.

| Well, this is where it started out for me. The first series of Sailormoon. I remember back in august 1996, it made its syndicated TV debut. I wasnt gonna it at first, cos the toy commercials preceded it, and I thought of a female ronin warriors (at the time that was on syndication as well) But I just happend to flip to it when the first episode started I watched it. Then the second one. Then I really got into it. It was corny, and I never really told anyone I watched it. It remained a guilty pleasure.
It was thanks to this series that I learned of concepts such as "Editing for US television" "and changing the script" and things like that.
Now then, for the review. It's an older series, so the animation has definately showed its age. The soundtrack is still a favorite of mine, and the opening song is still a classic. Usagi was still pretty flaky and immature here, and had yet to find her niche. All the characters were pretty underdevelped actually. The first story is pretty flat as well. Yeah, this one hasnt really aged well at all. Fortunately it isnt exactly required viewing to watch S-on which is where the franchise really started to shine. It does help to watch it to see how far along the characters and animation quality had come.

| Sailor Moon... what can i say about it? it really reminds me of my childhood, beeing one of the first japanese animes i saw after comunism ended and we were allowed to see foreign movies, along with Saint Seya, DBZ and Jonny Giraida.
Man i used to love this anime, but then again i was a kid and i never saw any anime at that time. Now that i think about it what then seemed soo cute now seems outdated, what seemed like a great adventure now seems a childish, full of stupid flaws anime:
-like the fight that the girls never kill anybody and save all the enemies without killing them, all with the power of love
-the girls aren't wearring any masks and yet the people never recognize them when they are transformed into the sailor fighters
-i still wonder how much damage can a rose do
-and how come the ppl that get atacked by monsters always come into the Sailor Girls atention right before the transformation?
Well this anime might not seem much to me now... but i remember how nice it was, how popular it was back then, the optimism in it, the souji cuteness the great characters and the music... back then when we thought goodness always wins in those years of innocence... so for all times sake, for all the hours spent in front of the tv, for all the good memories about him i'll give it a decent rate.
This anime is the one that gave birth to a new anime fan generation, gave birth to us, for most this was the first anime we,ve watched, and in it's once's greatness i have to say "never again, but always in our distant childhood memories, always somewhere in a deep forgoten corner of our harth, the one that gave us that beautifull spark of anime for the first time, back then... Sailor Moon"

| This is Sailor Moon at its best. The first series is the one that truly started the magic of this anime with its great characters, main and supporting, the great yearning for the moon princess, the growing friendships... It reminds me a bit of Saint Seiya in its theme of friendship. The animation for this series, although not great goes very well with its theme of "pretty sailor soldier senshi". The sound quality has also deteriorated over time but the theme song is still one of the better ones out there. BTW I am referring to the original japanese version as opposed to the cut/paste job done in the American Dub. You ahve to see that version to truly understand and appreciate this series. The story is truly great, I've always loved those mystical tales of magical princesses and the storytelling made this the strongest Sailor Moon series in terms of story. The characters are exceptional, with beautiful Sailor Mars being my favourite. I would say that this anime has a great value because I still revisit parts of it at times and they still hold their own very well, great enjoyment too. I recommend it to anyone, especially if you are into the magical girl genre; but if you are you've probably seen it already :)
