| After watching Goshushosama Ninomiya-kun, I thought Dears would be a lot better. But after finishing this series and Goshushosama Ninomiya-kun they both equal out in the end. (Though I do prefer Dears a little bit more, but you wouldn't know, since I gave them both the same score)
Animations are decent, everyone is really shiny though. "I'm an alien, so my skin is always shiny and can cover a three meter radius." That was scary. The main character looked a little plain compared to other male characters in the anime. Voice acting, background music, OP and ED song were decent enough to carry the series through 12 episodes.
DearS doesn't really have a major plot, except for the end. It's about an alien living on earth and experiencing all the normal things we humans do. Add some fanservice and you get DearS. Some episodes bored me to death, since DearS is just basically going the fanservice route and they're weren't that many new fanservice jokes that we haven't seen yet. Also what didn't help the series was the annoying shiny characters. Takeya is a loser with an attitude, nothing we haven't seen before. We have Ren who is your clumsy servant/slave that does everything wrong, yet can perfectly show fanservice to the audience. The minor characters annoyed me as well, so that didn't help the series.
Goshushosama Ninomiya-kun is another show that you might like if you've seen DearS. Seeing these two animes at the same time really fried my brain. But if you like fanservice then YAY?

| Well my first impression was "Wow this is somewhat like Chobits." I still yet have to review Chobits though.
Anyways DearS they are aliens. Why are they named DearS i forgot if they mentioned it in the anime. But I think they said the people of Earth named them first.
Well we have Ren a DearS whose a "zero" I will not tell what it means because it would ruin the story a bit. However her development and personalities is what makes the series interesting. Since everything is about her and Takeya. Takeya's impression about the DearS is that their just aliens who have come to invade Earth. This in my opinion what makes the anime good. Because DearS are basically aliens who are to serve. Well they say their "slaves." So we have servant and alien hater. However as the story develops Takeya also is changing his opinion about DearS.
Their few things that i didn't like though. That the DearS are wearing tights all the time. Except when wearing school uniform. The bad guys or bad DearS need to have more clothes. It was just awkward in my opinion.
Well the story is mostly focused on Ren and Takeya. Ren is basically tyring to help Takeya. While Takeya in my opinion gets a different view on the DearS from other people. His classmates, Miu, and his childhood friend Neneko. Getting influenced by them gives the other characters good personalities and background.
I fairly enjoyed this anime, because it always wanted me to watch the next episode. Also it was pretty funny as well which also forced me to watch it XD.

| This series really proved to be rather hit and miss in my opinion. The plot idea was great, and both Takeya and Ren are interesting and endearing characters, but there also were a few problems in the presentation which definitely needed to be addressed.
This is a series that some will love, and some will hate, but overall was a enjoyable few hours of mostly mindless fun.

| DearS is a series that is often considered to be a clone of chobits. The similarities however, really are not there if you have seen the entire series. The love aspect in DearS isn’t nearly as deep as it is in Chobits. In fact, the series a whole doesn’t get nearly get as serious as the last half of Chobits. While the story is somewhat similar to Chobits, DearS provides a much more light-hearted and funny series.

| DearS is an ecchi/comedy anime, and for me personally, these type of series are either hit or miss. I don't know what that magic ingredient is that turns a plotless, fluffy, series into something enjoyable, but DearS has it. There are better titles in the genre, but if you like this stuff then I recomend this series.

| Series was all right. Some beautiful aliens arrive on Earth, and their job is to be slaves to human masters. This opens the door for plenty of ecchi, paired with the fact that the main girl is unfamiliar with the customs of Earth. The alien girls have magical powers too, so there is a bit of that--mainly flying around.
The plot revolves around an uncertified alien who needs to be recalled by the alien HQ/villains. Also she struggles with her slave/master relationship with the male protagonist. The notion of servitude versus free will is explored as a theme.
A slight harem but not too much. OP was weird, ED was very perky though. Animation's a little strange looking, but I guess the girls are aliens so they can't look totally normal. Female protagonist is appealing nonetheless and has flowing cyan hair that I loved. She is a likeable girl and the highlight of the series. She has a buddy/rival with long pink hair who partakes in some antics too.
Male protagonist is a jerk type so that wasn't too cool--always a crank. The interactions between him and the girl are pretty enjoyable though, and in fact all of the girl's interactions with others are fun. Recommended if you want a light, short series with the unique slave aspect. Probably not for girls.

| Unfortunately for me while stumbling into the anime world, a friend hooked me up with this series, suggesting that it is "very good" and full of "fanservice". He got the fanservice part correct, but the rest just wants to make me gouge my eyes out.
Foremost, the Master-Slave relationship is just asking for critisism and is just a device to lure lonely male otakus to watch this unoriginal series. So maybe not many anime has the alien slave-wanting-masters idea, but it's totally LAME. From the first mention of this relationship, I can tell it's going to be one-of-those contraptions (especially hearing how other anime "stole" the idea from Love Hina). You've got a (a little spicy but still sucks) loser accidently gaining an airhead alien slave, and 13 episodes of the adventures they have, eventually leading to acceptance and a "let's make a better character out of the main character". Then there are overly-cute characters and characters that don't do anything in the story that are just there for fanservice (overly long hairdos, tight clothing, annoying factor, etc.) [slaves] and the pathetic humans who also don't really do anything except for fanservice and a little slap-stick comedy. Though the aliens were designed elaborately, it's TOO elaborate and I couldn't stand watching their shiny clothing being "shed" to their shiny skins. All of this is just to lure watchers with virgin genitals begging for a fantasy. I have no idea why I watched the whole series.
All this leads to the various adventures the "master" and "slave" have. They used the fact that the "slave" is an alien with advanced technology and made her know everything and jump buildings. Unfortunately, she's still an airhead (I don't care if she was a degenerate). The "master" doesn't fair well either - he's a loser (with an attitude, at least) and at the end, he STILL doesn't treat people with respect. The "rival" is also lame, too. Actually, with the whole "master-slave" thing, the whole series is lame. There's no point explaining anything further. Oh, and every single episode except for beginning and end are fillers.
Overall, if you're looking for a "very good" anime, you won't find it here. If you're either looking for fanservice or you're a lonely male otaku, feel free to waste 7 hours on this series and gain non-existent fantasies along the way.

| For the ones who intend to watch this anime in hopes this would bring memories back to Chobits, I would I like to comment that this anime doesn't really come close and that it is filled with fanservice. Overall, I believe it is full of fanservice to attempt to lure the male population towards enjoying these ecchi-based plots.

| Dears, from start to finish, is very similar to Chobits. I don't know if it copied Chobits or not, but Dears isn't as good as Chobits. One of the major flaws of Dears is its length, and because of that, depth is lost. But overall, I enjoyed watching this, because it was similar to Chobits, and because it has some nice comedy in it. Also, that Ren is one sexy girl.

| DearS...A lot of people call it a clone of Chobits, but that's not really true in all aspects. The only similarity I see is that a loser main character finds an alien girl and begins to live with her. That's where the similarities end. You see, the whole DearS series revolves around a Master-Slave relationship.
Although the whole Master-Slave relationship seems a bit sadistic at first, it is definitely original. Unfortunately, Ren is so insistent on the whole Master-Slave issue that she hardly developes feelings or personalities of her own. All she does for the whole show is "if my master wishes so" or "for the sake of my master"...it gets old after a while. And Ren's rival is also very, very irritating. She declares all of these corny competitions on Ren, such as cooking contests or housekeeping contests...I don't know about others, but for me...*yawn* (no originality at all) The basic setup of most episodes consists of the main character getting angry at Ren, Ren making a mess of things, and her rival critizing her.
The animation is average at best. I don't find the DearS female particularly well designed. There are A LOT of fanservice though, so this show ain't for youngsters definitely. The whole master and slave thing should be rated PG-13 already.
The op and ed themes are...creepy. Sends chills down my spine everytime I hear them. The OST are very forgettable.
The story felt like it was trying to convey a morale across but then got slaughtered by dumb slapstick comedy. I thought they were going to go deeper into the whole philosophy of personal freewill versus master-slave relationship, but I guess not. Shouldn't expect too much from a fanservice show like this.
Not enough value for rewatch. I don't recommend this at all.

| I seriously don't think that could be the end...of this series...I have read the manga and done my research and their is more to this Anime...(I hope, and if that's the actual last episode then it lets so many question left unanswered...If that's the case then the rating of this anime should be down.)
Anyways...
I got interrested in this anime in a weird way, I happened to be in my Favorite book store*Cough*Walden's Books*Cough* and happen to wonder off to the Manga Section, and the first book that catch my eyes out of Countless of manga was DearS Volume 1(but enough of my story up to the Review).
This Anime was very interresting, seeing that is the first one that involves "Slaves" and "Aliens" at the sametime(that I have seeing of course). The begging of the story was nice and simple.I really got into it since I began reading manga and decided to start viewing the Anime. To my surprise, I saw that there's only 12 episodes made. This of course made me....well Angry...There's more stuff happening in the manga than the actually Anime(sad).
The Animetion was pretty good, I personally like how the characters Ren and Mui were design. I particulary didn't like Mui's long hair reaching almost the floor like that(You know what i'm talking about..Those two huge Pile of hair...).It's pretty interresting to see that their could be a Alien world in which everyone could be as cute and charming as "DearS".
I've heard arguments about this Anime being based on Chobits storyline or is similar to it.I really can't tell if it is or not, for I haven't seeing Chobits(Amature Anime watcher...).It can be true but I did like the storyline they put on this Anime. It's true that there's so many similar Anime but I like this one the most. Also the story needed alot of background information that could have been desirable by the viwer, for example thei homeplanet, etc.
The OP song I truly didn't like it one bit.The ED was rather acceptable thanks to all the Chibis Characters. The music in the anime wasn't that bad, and it went along with the different scenarios.
The reason I like the characters so much , is because they resemble my friends personality. In the perverted kinda way, and when we are in pressence of a Cute(power to the MaX!) girl.I think Takeya should have been alittle more nicer towards Ren.The reason he doesn't like aliens was trigger by Neneko since childhood. However,Ren just started living in this whole new world without any knowledge what so ever of our culture or anything other than her own language. He expect her to just know everything out of the blue? (Poor RenT.T)There's truly no character development, but in truth I got passed that from all the good laughs I had watching this anime.
In summary is a good anime, I would recommend it if you don't mind Echhi,"Slaves"&"Master" Situations, the "No character development"situation, and being a short anime.
-Will
...
Isn't this a long review?... Wouldn't you guys aggree?
I also forgot to mention the Teacher, all I got to say is "Lol!"...
(If the Anime actually ends like that, all I have to say is "way to go on screwing up a good Anime.")Read the manga, it has more stuff.

| Similar to many romantic/comedy shows, DearS tries to add in somethign unique to the already stale genre by re-creating the alien theme with a Chobit's-style story. Unfortunately, things have not turned out well as planned.
DearS's misfortune is due to lack of greatness it holds, sure, characters are cute though inconsistently designed, its story sounded sweet but its back-story is dire like hell, its fan-service/enjoyment is likable to an extent but tries to blend bewtween hentai-esque scenes and normal anime scenes too much. In fact, DearS's main fault lies in the fact that it tries to appeal to the audience with its charm but, for me, it doesn't work at all.
The story of a boy finding a girl on the street is done before via Chobits, it starts off nicely as well, but gradually the story shuffles to the back-story of Ren and why she is a defective product etc.. in fact, i didn't get the back-story and didn't find what the problem was with Ren at all, its like the creator tried to add in an unncessary back-story to spice thigns up but it just doesn't cut it.
The Character development is important in a romance, and unfortunately for this, its very lacking. The confused relationship between Takeya and Ren is fuddled and leads to a predictable result via an overly confusing path. Thigns could have done much better, i just didn't feel the chemistry between them at all. Though character designs are nice, its inconsistent and loses to something similar like Girls Bravo which was good at what it did...
..the fanservice, girls bravo was brave in trying to show extreme-fan service and it worked. DearS on the other-hand, it swayed too much between fan-service and normality to be enjoyable from any of side and in the end, i didn't know whether to be impressed with the fan-service they provided or just feel sick and tired by the unncessary service.
Overall, DearS is a muddled mess. I didn't like Chobits but at least Chobits has some credibility to its name. DearS doesn't and subsequently, loses out to animes of the same genre. Roll on second series, and this time, make it better!!

| I had fun to watch it. The overall is quite good. It would have been alot better if they had given Takeyo a bit more sence and made him way more friendly for ren. But since it's short, it's recommendable to watch it, because there are no fillers.

| First things first..this anime had it's flaws..
Characters - no development whatsoever and never have I come a across such an annoying protagnist. The "coldness" of the character just did not work and simply made me want to stop watching since he was so predictable..
(Oh and the teacher.. made me feel sick jus listening to her =\ )
Storyline is a bit.. well very unoriginal in the way that bad guys come, then main character FINALLY makes his mind up and saves her.
The idea of "slaves" was quite upsetting and I will never understand why the aliens are slaves and desire to be so.
Too many unexplained things, but I won't go on about that..
Other than I actually quite enjoyed it. I won't put myself through the agony of watching it again, but it did have a happy and understandable ending.
Animation was quite good, did not really drop or improve as it went along.
Main thing I liked was the OP and ED.
Lovely tunes to hear in the morning if you can stand it!
Recommened if you like bits of ecchi and mild humour, keep away if your a serious anime watcher!

| Can we see an anime with a lead male character who can act with any sort of brain? Can we? It seems to not be possible. I absolutely loved chobits except for the total moron of a protagonist who is more concerned about hiding his own sexuality than with noticing the feelings of anyone around him, and I was hoping DearS would be remedy that - wrong!
Although you can see that Takeya is good in his heart - he doesn't want to take advantage of Ren, wants her to be able to choose for herself, etc... His coldness is just totally over the top, and his character shows no development at all throught the entire series except a brief moment in the final episode
Overall, it was a great idea horribly done. It would be awesome to see a continuation of the series where it left off that actually DOES focus on the character development - with a little bit of GROWTH in the characters. A little resolution to ONE of the many cliffhangers!!
Frustrating.

| Probably shounen animes are the most overplayed genre in all anime without a doubt. Especially "A boy stuck with beautiful girl senario" has been done to death and i watched a LOT of them. Very few do manage to seperate themselves ( Love Hina, Midori no Hibi, Mahoromatic, Chobits), DearS however does not seperate itself from the crowd. I say it was a valiant attempt at originality and interesting cencepts but it really doesn't work. This anime is just your everyday mediocre anime with tons of fanservice.
This anime starts out quite catchy. The opening song i thought was very fun to listen to. although it isn't something that i would listen to everyday as i walked to school, it does set the mood right. The background music weren't any special but the sound effects were decent enough to compliment all the ecchi scenes.
The animation is also decent in my opinion. The charcater designs i thought were good. not all characters look the same. Takeya is designed stylistically and Ren looks cute enough. Miyu also is colorful, but I didn't like her hairs, in fact, i hated it. The overall background animations and set details are plain average however...
Seiyuu probably is the best trait of this anime as every seiyuu in this anime capture the personality of every character. I especially like Miyu's seiyuu and Takeya's seiyuu.
DearS does have some very very few genuinely funny moments. With oblivious behavior of Ren and very offensive and rather shy personality of Takeya creates many hillarious situations that really cracked me up here and there.
but bad things are rather glaring
Firstly i hated the slave idea. I really tried to stick it through the end and see what this slave thing is all about and found a very unsatisfactory answer for it. I definitely think the whole DearS race needed a LOT more background and some overall development to allow us to understand the whole situation here. I barely understood anything till the very end and the end still didn't satisfy my first for more background. come on!!!
and what this leads to is just perverted plot, for the most of the anime, that resemble some hentai animes. I was very annoyed
the characters are also closest thing to annoying most of the times. This is also due to lack of development. They try stuff on Miyu and Neneko but our hero and heroine never really goes through enough development for us to really care about them. Takeya is a jerk... we all know that. This anime's characters also are straight out of other shounen animes. For example the hentai teacher is from Mahoromatic, takeya resemble seiji from midori, Ren is Chi from chobits. I mean come on try something else...
there are few genuine fun jokes here and there but most of the jokes are dominated by low-blow ecchi jokes thatfail to work. If you have watch a bit of anime at all you've seen something like this before. Now a days it really takes a alot moreintelligence to make the viewers laugh and this ain't it.
this anime doesn't lack too much on its presentation area. Its comedy even work manytimes and the seiyuu work is excellent most of the times. But the most important character development and story is absolutely disappointing. This anime is just plain mediocre. Give it a try of you got nothing else to do and if you are bored. this CAN be a good pop corn laugh out loud entertainment.

| I cant belive how frustraiting this anime was. i had to force myself to watch the last few episodes hopeing that things would get better, but they didnt. How can someone enjoy watching a jerk like Takeya(the main character) treat a beautiful, loyal and trusting girl like Ren like garbage for all 12 episodes??? I felt so horrible watching all the verbal abuse that Ren had to endure, all she wanted to do was be near Takeya and take care of him, what exactly is so wrong with that?? Also, i dont see at all how this anime can be compared to Chobits by so many people. Chobits was basicaly a love story and both the main characters cared alot about eachother. In DearS, Takeya hates Ren and spends every single episode screaming and yelling at her and calling her an idiot. That aside, the animation was flawless and the opening and ending songs were addictingly cute. if it werent for characters like ren and miu i would have given a score of 1 for the character category. i think this anime really had potential with the storyline but like i said, the pointless hate and abuse just killed it for me. if your looking for something heartwarming and romantic i really dont recommend this anime, even the comedy was below average. I feel bad for giveing this anime such a low score, but its kind of hard to enjoy watching a cute, innocent character like Ren get abused for 12 episodes.

| DearS caught my eye the moment Ren appeared on screen in the first episode. Hardly have I seen a more adorable character as Ren (superficially) with her big eyes, blue hair, and cute voice.
This is typical of your usual girl all over guy anime. Ren is all over (I don't even remember the guy's name) and the frequent reiteration that she's his slave just makes me laugh and think how silly that is. If Ren wasn't drawn so adorably, I might have found this part disgusting.
Secondary characters such as the perverted female teacher with big boobs, the secret lover, the cool male antagonist in a batch of females [although this anime doesn't much with this guy], and other stereotypes appear in this anime, leaving nothing new to be desired for if you dont like the cute animation style of Ren.
Story is the run of the mill guy finds girl in some unconscious state. He takes her, she lives there, she becomes part of his life (school etc), they have some sort of events happen, some humor, a lot on the part of her not understand their culture leading to clumsiness, etc etc. overused? yes. but this anime makes it intersting in a way that the characters give a slight refreshing view on this trite storyline.
Honestly, this anime isn't that great if it wasn't for the fact that Ren is just so adorable and the animation is quite pretty. Otherwise, its the usual mix of Chobits and Mahoromatic with just a hint of fan service and boob fondling.
