| I advise people not to use these reviews as what the real series will be like. I don't know how different or similar the series will really be.
Either way, I don't see why the characters in Genshiken make such a fuss over Kujibiki Unbalance =P. The producers could of at least gone out of their way to make it interesting or dare I say - a pure action show. Now that there is a real series for Kujian, I'm going to review how these 3 episodes were presented as a stand-alone series. Unfortunately because of that, this OVA just falls apart completely.

| Ok, i love Genshiken, so i had a funny feeling when i watched this OVAS.
I didn´t judge them in the same way i usually do with anime, for my is a plus related to the genshiken world.
Ok, the story is unclear, the chara design and animation are not the best (big hands, so so drawings), but the enjoyment is high... its really funny (once again, is better watch it after genshiken).
Some fan service, some interesting jokes... its like green green, an anime made for spend the time laughing with your friends.

| An anime within an anime. Kujibiki Unbalance is supposedly the ultra popular anime in the Genshiken world, spanning two seasons and 26 episodes. Alas, in reality, we only get to see its pilot, its clip show, and the episode beofore the conclusion.
If you want the full review, you can just go see the Genshiken series, as the characters there will tell you all the character details as well as the directing group. But since there is only 3 episode is made in reality, this is a very hard series to review.
The animation is decent, with the style obviously going for the cutie chibi look. You either love this or hate it. But I have to admit, just like in Genshiken, the best looking character has to be the chairman. The sound is also nothing spectacular, but the OP and the ED is performed by Under17, and both songs are of quality.
The story is the hardest part to evaluate. If you have watched Genshiken before watching Kujian, then you'll at least have some idea about this series because all the characters in Genshiken talked about Kujian. But if you just dive in and watched this before Genshiken, you will have no idea what is going on at all, and think that the story is broken. Also in consideration is that this is supposedly a 2 season, 26 episodes anime. So only having 3 episodes produced does not give me an accurate idea of what it is going to be.
This is also true for the characters, but I can guess that the hero is the same as those dating anime hero where he has no redeeming value at all besides his uber niceness to females.
Overall, it is highly recommended that you watch Genshiken before even touching this anime. Otherwise, take another 2 points off this overall score if you are just watching Kujian without watching Genshiken first.

| Kujian is a very hard anime to sell. If you noticed in Genshiken, alot of advertising is done for this anime, in fact so much advertistment, if you notice all the scenes of Kujian in Genshiken, you've probably seen nearly 80% of the anime. Mostly seen during the ending. Kujian can sell for its looks and comedy, expect a very lame story. It has ecchi of the innocent type.

| Kujibiki Unbalance is the anime series which the Otakus watch in the anime, 'Genshiken' (which is great btw). An anime within an anime basically.
Anyways, KU is a weird one to review, mainly because the released episodes are split into 3 episodes (episode 1, 21 and 25), so there's not much to gather from those 3 episodes.
The show is cute, slightly enjoyable and dreadfully short and the (biggest weakness here) plentiful plotholes and crappy half-made story made this slightly average.
There's not much i could say here without any form of direction within the 3 episodes shown, episode 1 and 21 were great because they were fun, episode 25 less so.
Basically, i can't rate KU because of the utter shortness of it, but the key thing to remember from this is that these episodes are cute little extras within a better anime, its not a 'real anime' but more of a take of an anime within an anime.
Pros: Fun first two episodes
Cute
Nice OP/ED
Con: Too short!!
Overall: U (unrateable)

| Ok, funny idea...
Taka a fictional anime that appears in an other anime and do three episodes of it, pretending to be part of an entire series.
It works rather well, you can relay suprisingly much story and character with only this.
You have to take it for what it is, an
experiment. If you're looking for something with, say, an ending, you'll have to look elsewere...

| Though no one will feel obligated to watch Kujibiki Unbalance unless they've first watched Genshiken, it's still a totally independent feature, enough so to stand on its own. Out of context, however, it really doesn't work. Within Genshiken it's used primarily to poke fun at a bunch of anime cliches and how willingly otakus lap them up like something brilliant and new, which is kind of funny. When actually watching this, however, the comedy is played up so that the OVA is actually meaningful. And surprisingly, it's genuinely funny at times, especially episode 2.
The plot is totally stupid and worthless, and the animation generally looks like crap, but neither of those are really important. (Kudos, however, to the excellent voice acting crew and the fine BGM selections.) Kujibiki Unbalance's entire existence is tongue-in-cheek, right down to the tired old characters, who are poked fun at surprisingly well. The OVA is vaguely sarcastic and overall a pretty fun watch, but don't expect to take it seriously. :D

| This might have been one of those numerous Japanese radio drama that got picked up in Genshiken as a story within the story and it later spawned an animation in itself though it's limited to 3 OAVs and not a whole TV series as it appears in Genshiken (which steals its OP for its first episode)
Genshiken fans might look it up to dig further inside mind and otaku-ness of the characters of their favorite series.
Kujian is a goofy, senselerss high-school comedy (little ecchi so far) in the lines of Azumanga Daioh or School Rumble.
extra points for the cute opening sequence and theme song (read totally addictive)

| hmm, I cannot believe this anime actually exists. I remember seeing it in genshiken, it is the club's favorite anime. Of course, it makes sense since both series are made by Media Factory. This show seems to be a stretch. I am not sure where the hell this is going, but I must admit it was somewhat funny seeing such a ridiculous obsession with mushrooms in the first episode. It seems to be another old-friends romance, but with some odd sort of twist. I will consider whether or not to continue watching this, and I am not giving a recommendation to watch or not watch this series, though if you've seen genshiken you may see it to understand what they are watching.

| If you're into the random comedy genre this might be the thing for you. There is a lot of randomness, yelling and screaming, and plain weird characters. Overall it deserves a 8/9 because I found it presented in an enjoyable style and has a good concept, although the way the story is told could have been improved.

| This review is based on the first and second episode. Because they make this anime as if there are 25 episodes, they numbered each eposodes, 1st and 21st respectably.
The first episode of Kujibiki Unbalance comes with Genshiken Vol1, and Vol2 (Episode 1~4), and the second one comes with Vol. 3 and 4.
Because I like the radio drama of Kujibiki Unbalance, I bought Genshiken DVD set only for Kujibiki Unbalance. Though I read the manga, I haven't watched Genshiken, and I think I won't.
The animation is above average, but the design and coloring are a bit awkward, and the anime looks like an old anime such as 80s or so. Furthermore, I notice that the design of Akiyama Tokino seems strange.
The attractive point of this anime is its characters. The story of the first episode is mainly introduction of the characters, and I think their personalities are well drawn. The second episode is a recap episode, there appeared a lot of characters, who are shown in opening anime. Then, I know who the alien of the opening movie is.
The notable point of this anime is the famous voice actors, such as, Kawasumi Ayako, Chiba Saeko, and so on. Their acts are very nice. Moreover, the opening and ending songs by Under 17 sound petty good.
I paid more than $100 just for one episode of Kujibiki Unbalance. Honestly speaking, it is quite expensive. However, if you like both Genshiken and Kujibiki Unbalance, the price may be reasonable.
In summary, the anime is very good, and I hope this will become an independent series from Genshiken.
